"Why of course the people don't want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally, the common people don't want war: neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But after all it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship ... Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger." -- Leading Nazi leader, Hermann Goering, at the Nuremberg Trials before he was sentenced to death

Israeli attacks have killed 81 Palestinians over roughly the last 24 hours, including an attack on a United Nations-run school shelter in Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, according to data released by the Gaza health ministry on Wednesday.

The Nuseirat strike, which killed 23 Palestinians on Tuesday, was at least the eighth Israeli attack on a school shelter in the last ten days. Six of the schools had been run by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

"Why do they target us when we are innocent people?" Umm Mohammed al-Hasanat, a woman who was sheltering at the Nuseirat school, askedAl Jazeera.

"We do not carry weapons but are just sitting and trying to find safety for ourselves and our children," she said.

Deloitte Consulting has won a potential five-year, $2.4 billion contract to work with the Navy and Defense Department on their efforts to modernize and expand the submarine industrial base.

Workforce development is one of several aspects Deloitte will seek to help the Navy and DOD's Innovation Capability and Modernization Office address, as part of their larger effort to address regional and broader challenges in submarine manufacturing.

Awarded on Monday, the contract has an initial one-year base period and up to four option years. The General Services Administration managed the procurement for the Navy and DOD.

Solicitation documents describe the Navy's goal as being able to "rapidly reach and sustain a programmed production rate of 1+2 submarines per year with a predominant emphasis on closing associated industrial workforce gaps."

However, Nasser Kanaani asserted that Iran aims to prosecute Trump for ordering the assassination of a senior military official in 2020.

Israel killed at least 90 people in Mawasi in several airstrikes on an area the military had designated as a “safe zone.” Here a child reacts as bodies are salvaged from the site on 13 July.

Under a scorching sun last Saturday, 14-year-old Tala Mahmoud was waiting in a food distribution line to secure a dish of lentils for her family in the displaced persons’ camp in the al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis.

Then, chaos.

In minutes, Israeli war planes dropped a reported five 2,000 pound bombs on the area – an area the Israeli military had designated a “safe zone,” and which was filled with people who had been forcibly displaced from elsewhere in Gaza.

Tala’s slender body was sent into the air. Her plate of yellow lentils turned scarlet after being mixed with her blood.

Naglaa, Tala’s mother, told The Electronic Intifada what she saw:

During MSNBC’s coverage of the third night of the Republican National Convention on Wednesday, MSNBC host Joy Reid argued that the Secret Service gave 2024 Republican presidential candidate former President Donald Trump “nine seconds to take an iconic photo op during an active shooter situation” during the assassination attempt against the former President at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday and “We’ll figure that out one day.”

There are reports indicating that some Homeowners’ Associations (HOAs) in Florida are finding ways to circumvent the newly signed law by Governor Ron DeSantis, which restricts HOAs from banning pickup trucks and certain other vehicles from parking in driveways. For example, a subdivision in Sarasota has stated it will continue to enforce its existing parking regulations, including fines and towing, despite the new law.

Since the 2020 election, the median monthly housing payment in swing states has nearly doubled, rising by 92% to an all-time high of $2,161. This increase is due to a combination of soaring home prices and higher mortgage rates.

What does not make sense is how a 20-year-old nursing home food attendant managed to find one spot with a direct line of sight to President Trump and how Thomas Crooks managed to know of all the ongoing security lapses and failures that day, including the reassignment of the Secret Service to Jill Biden, who had a function in Pittsburgh the same day. Another part of the story that makes no sense is that 20-year-old Thomas Crooks, who lived an hour away before he went to the rally, knew that he would need a ladder in order to scale the walls and take a shot at President Trump.

Former sniper and defense contractor Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) triggered a CNN host on Tuesday after suggesting that "intentional" failures may have resulted in the assassination attempt on Donald Trump on Saturday.

"The amount of negligence, the amount of mistakes that was made here, I have a very difficult time not leaning myself towards this was intentional, as opposed to fecklessness," Mills told anchor Kate Bolduan.

"If I have a building 160 yards perfectly adjacent to the stage, that’s an obvious threat," he continued. "Especially with an elevated position that has overwatch? That’s a sniper’s paradise."

Mills, an Iraq war veteran and former DynCorp security specialist, co-founded private security company Pacem Defense, and says he's overseen security for thousands of events.

After a stunned Boulduan pressed Mills, he replied: "I sit here and scratch my head. You don’t want to be the conspiracist. That’s the issue. You walk this fine balance, but you look at it and think ‘How could this have gone so wrong?’."
