Maduro Orders Military Combat Readiness To Defeat ‘Imperialist Conspiracies’

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro said he had instructed the Armed Forces to maintain the highest level of combat readiness to defeat “imperialist conspiracies.” Maduro asked on Thursday on his Twitter account, the Venezuelan military to be on alert and keep the peace in the country. “I command all our FANB [Venezuelan Armed Forces], to be vigilant and to maintain maximum deployment, discipline, leadership and preparation, to defeat imperial conspiracies and maintain peace. Venezuela is counting on you!” he said on Twitter. The Venezuelan leader accused US National Security adviser John Bolton of being one of the main articulators of a conspiracy to try to overthrow him and assassinate him with the help of Colombia. For Maduro, the drone that attacked him in August during a ceremony had direct orders from the United States and former Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos.

One Chicken? That will be 14 million Bolivars… or .03 Dash

Kentucky Fried Chicken was rumored to be the latest fast-food restaurant in Venezuela to accept Dash cryptocurrency for payment.

(Actually, KFC denies these claims, but then Church’s Chicken stepped up to the plate and announced it will accept the tokens.)

Why Dash? Because the cost of a chicken now exceeds $14 million bolivars, the Venezuelan currency.

Hyperinflation in the socialist country has caused the currency to lose about 99% of its value since last year… And even then it had already been through years of hyperinflation.

Officially, the exchange rate is $1 USD for 248,000 bolivars. In reality, the exchange rate on the black market is $1 USD for over 6.6 million bolivars.

Child Sex Slavery Ring Run by Former Israeli Soldier Dismantled by Colombian Police

A large child sex slavery ring overseen by Israelis was dismantled by Colombian police earlier this week, in a story that has shocked Colombia and much of Latin America but received minimal coverage from mainstream Western media outlets. The network had been active since 2011 and expressly “recruited” young, underage females in situations of economic hardship or domestic abuse to work as “sex slaves” catering to Israeli tourists visiting Colombia.

Colombian authorities first began to investigate the sex slavery network in June 2016 following the murder of Israeli citizen Shay Azran in the Colombian city of Medellín. Soon after, Azran’s murderer was found to be another Israeli, Assi Ben Mush, an ex-IDF soldier who was known for his past involvement in both drug and human trafficking in the early 2000s. However, Mush was never arrested for Azran’s murder.

Kremlin Enters War Of Words With Pompeo After Nuke-Capable Bombers Deployed To Venezuela

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo slammed Russia for sending a pair of long-range nuclear capable Tu-160 bombers "halfway around the world" to Venezuela in comments posted to Twitter late Monday. The Kremlin confirmed the jets touched down at Venezuela's Simon Bolivar International Airport in the capital of Caracas previously that day.

“The Russian and Venezuelan people should see this for what it is: two corrupt governments squandering public funds, and squelching liberty and freedom while their people suffer,” Pompeo stated.

Two Russian Air Force Tupolev Tu-160 heavy strategic bombers arrived to Venezuela after 10,000-kilometer flight from Russia.
The Kremlin, which has described the flights as training exercises and part of Russia’s right to make "regular flights over the international waters," responded by describing Pompeo's statement as "an utterly inappropriate comment" and his weighing in as "indeed very undiplomatic," according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

U.S. Foreign Policy Has No Policy

The part of the world where American meddling coupled with ignorance has produced the worst result is inevitably the Middle East. Washington has been led by the nose by Israel and Saudi Arabia, currently working in sync, to have the United States destroy Iran even though the Iranians represent no threat whatsoever to Americans or any serious U.S. interests ... Senator Rand Paul's courageous decision to place a "hold" on aid to Israel is long overdue, as Israel is a liability to the United States and is also legally ineligible for aid due to its undeclared nuclear arsenal and its unwillingness to sign the Nuclear Non- Proliferation Treaty (NPT). The hysterical reactions of American Jews and Israel suggest that any redirection of U.S. Middle East policy will produce a hostile reaction from the Establishment

Honduran President's brother arrested on drug trafficking charges in US

The brother of Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez was arrested Friday on charges of trafficking cocaine, weapons offenses and making a false statement, according to the US Department of Justice.

Authorities with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) arrested Antonio Hernandez Alvarado, also known as "Tony Hernandez," in Miami, but he is being prosecuted in New York. Hernandez, 40, is a former member of the National Congress of Honduras, the indictment states.
A federal indictment states Hernandez was involved in processing, receiving, transporting and distributing multi-ton loads of cocaine that came to Honduras by plane, boat and, on at least on occasion, by submarine. The indictment also states Hernandez had access to labs in Honduras and Colombia, where some of the cocaine was stamped "TH" for Tony Hernandez.

Latin America Has Fewer Guns, But More Crime

Although we hear relentlessly in this country that more guns lead to more crime, the experience of Latin America certainly doesn’t lend much credence to the idea. Advocates for gun control try to ignore Latin America and focus strictly on Europe, where they claim that low crime rates are synonymous with low levels of gun ownership. (Even this claim must exclude Russia, Switzerland, Ukraine, and the Baltics to be true.) By expanding our analysis to the Americas, however, we quickly find these claims are anything but self-evident.

Referring to the possible groupings of leaders and aides being considered, the source said: “On each side of the dinner table, it could be one plus two, one plus four, or one plus six”.

Archives reveal Israel’s ‘cosy ties’ with Brazil’s military dictatorship

Israeli Foreign Ministry documents at the Israel State Archives reveal that Israel enjoyed “cosy ties” with Brazil’s military dictatorship, which ruled from 1964 to 1985.

According to the report by +972 Magazine, the year after the coup, in June 1965, Aryeh Eshel, director of Latin American affairs at Israel’s Foreign Ministry, wrote that he hoped “the current regime in Brazil lasts”.

Based on the information available, and not subject to censorship, the report states there were “strong ties” with respect to military relations:

Brazil’s security forces used Israeli Uzi submachine guns, and the [Brazilian] National Truth Commission revealed that intelligence agents from the National Intelligence Service of Brazil (SNI) — who were primarily responsible for torture, oppression, and crimes committed by the regime — received training in Israel.

Venezuela's exiled justice department calls for Interpol arrest of Maduro and 18 years for corruption

Venezuela's justice department in exile has requested an international arrest warrant, also known as a red notice, for Venezuela's president, Nicolás Maduro.

The Supreme Tribunal of Justice in exile accused Maduro of corruption in a letter to Jürgen Stock, the secretary-general of Interpol, dated on Monday.

The exiled department, which calls itself the Legitimate TSJ, was established in 2017 amid a constitutional change.

It said that Maduro accepted, directly or indirectly, funds from illegal activity and called for 18 years and three months in jail.

"As a result of the aforementioned, this Plenary Chamber considered it appropriate to request that Interpol issue a red notice for Nicolás Maduro Moros for the purposes of international cooperation on common crimes for the apprehension of the above-mentioned subject," said the letter, which was addressed from Coral Gables, Florida.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Interesting timing here.

Just a few days ago, President Trump was floating the concept of declaring Venezuela as "a state sponsor of terror" President preparing to Label Venezuela as a "state sponsor of terror"

This classification gives the President more room as to what military/economic actions he can take, against such an alleged "state sponsor of terrorism".

And is this letter to Interpol has been mailed from Coral Gables Florida?!?

Diabetes spike in Mexican town where Coca-Cola used as drinking water, currency & religious offering

Cristobal de las Casas, in the Mexican state of Chiapas, has for years been caught between an inept local government and a multinational corporation which is draining its local water supply in a case of crony capitalism at its worst.

Coca-Cola is produced locally at the Femsa plant, which bottles and sells the drink across Mexico. Under a long-standing agreement with the Mexican government, the factory owns the rights to draw out more than 300,000 gallons (around 1,135,623 liters) of water per day.

Desperate locals average more than two liters of soda per day, as it’s often more accessible than bottled water and is almost as cheap, with a 1.5-liter Coca-Cola bottle costing roughly 18 Mexican pesos ($0.88), compared with water, which costs 10 Mexican pesos ($0.48) per bottle.

The Chiapas state has seen a 30-percent increase in the mortality rate from diabetes between 2013 and 2016.

'TRUMP WANTS TO HAVE ME KILLED', SAYS VENEZUELA'S MADURO

As the US continues to send not-so-subtle signals that it could be open to a military invasion of Venezuela after a US-supported coup plot involving Venezuelan military officers fizzled, Nicolas Maduro - who only a few months ago evaded a bizarre assassination attempt involving C4-laden drones - has accused the Trump Administration of conspiring to have him assassinated.

When approached for a response to Maduro's comments, a White House spokesman did little to rebut his claims, saying only that the US's "policy preference" is "for a peaceful, orderly return to democracy in Venezuela." Given Venezuela's ailing energy infrastructure, and US sanctions that have made it difficult for the Maduro regime to sell its oil or tap capital markets for funding, the government has been forced to rely on China and, to a lesser extent, Russia to keep it afloat.

Webmaster's Commentary:

No matter what the White House says, Maduro is probably very correct in his assessment here.

The problem here has been exacerbated by the sanctions, which have pushed Venezuela far more into the orbit of China and Russia; the same can be said about the sanctions against Iran.

The real test for Maduro will be that (as of right now, hypothetical) moment when his military turns on him, and starts cooperating with forces who want to see regime change, rather than have the continuation of the horrific conditions under which the Venezuelan people are living.

Wolf at the Door: Prospects of US Military Intervention in Venezuela

There is another fact that stands out in the poll: 62% of Venezuelans prefer President Maduro to solve the economic problems of the country, while 34% prefer an opposition government. 61% blame economic problems on agents external to the government such as the economic war, the fall of the price of oil, price speculation, and U.S. financial sanctions, while 37% attribute them to the economic policies implemented by the government.

The possible conspirators within the armed forces, meanwhile, have been detected and imprisoned, while the foreign media speak of other disgruntled soldiers who have deserted.

Foreign mainstream media outlets insist on imposing the military options on public opinion (even posting bizarre surveys), but opposition political leaders consider that this debate could feed expectations for an external saviour, which would go against reorganising efforts made by some [opposition] politicians.

“We are going to fight for Venezuela,” she shouted through a megaphone, “we are going to continue doing it until Maduro is gone.”

This is the neocon mindset: that somehow the US has the authority to tell the rest of the world how to live and who may hold political power regardless of elections.

After more than a year of Washington being crippled by evidence-free claims that the Russians have influenced our elections, we have a senior US Administration official openly calling for the overturning of elections overseas.

Imagine if President Putin’s national security advisor had grabbed a megaphone in New York and called for the people of the United States to overthrow their government by force!

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, President Trump has made some astonishingly bad choices in the people he has appointed to represent the Unhinged, Surveilled State of Amerika, and Nikki Haley is one hysterically horrific example of Trump's taste in officials, second only to that of Gina Haspel's nomination to - and leadership of - the CIA.

Please don't get me wrong; I would love to see centrist women with impeccable credentials get nominated, and approved, for leadership roles in this country. But somehow, this just doesn't happen under President Trump's watch.

Sadly, both of these ladies are just to the extreme right of Attila the Hun when it comes to both human rights, and national, peaceful self-determination when it comes to countries which do not conduct themselves as the US government would wish (and are sitting over huge oil reserves, as is Venezuela).

Haley is the Neocons' consummate wet dream, when it comes to advocating for regime change in countries sitting over vast fortunes in oil or other resources, like Iran; Venezuela; Russia; or China.

But she has a couple of problems with publicly calling out Venezuela for regime change.

First and foremost, China has just given Venezuela 5 billion dollars as a loan last month with which to create a lifeline for its battered economy last month. China to give Venezuela a 5 billion dollar loan, as Maduro visits Beijing.

And secondly, at least for the moment, Venezuela's military are still on his side, particularly those 16,900 military Maduro "promoted" last July: Maduro "promotes" 16,900 members of his military for "loyalty"

And there is utterly no guarantee, if the US goes in with the usual bovine excrement rationale of "attack to protect the people" of Venezuela, that the outcome will be to the Unhinged, Surveilled State of Amerika's liking.

Remember Libya, and just how brilliantly well that went, after the assassination of Qaddafi?!? Talk about a "mammary glands up" outcome!

Ambassador Haley behaves as though she is a Miss Cleo wannabe, declaring that she can see the outcome of events before they unfold; for example, the accusation, made as late as August of this year, that Iran had a secret nuclear weapons program Nikki Haley warns that Iran could become "The Next North Korea", taking a phrase right out of Bibi Netanyahu's playbook

And remember, this was done right before the IAEA's statement that the P5+1 agreement was still being honored by the Iranians.IAEA states that Iran is still acting in accord with the P5+1 agreementThe article went on to state the following:
"Mogherini further pointed to the 12th report released by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) certifying that Iran is still complying with all its nuclear related commitments in accordance with the JCPOA and said, "This is good news."

Acting upon what is not there, does not make for good states craft; it is unfortunate that Ms. Haley appears to be dancing to the tune of Neocon delusional thinking, and that there is no equivalent in the US Constitution of the 25th Amendment, for removal of a US representative who is no longer physically, or intellectually fit, to represent this country.

Will Moscow Station its Army in Venezuela?

RUSSIAN MILITARY INTO LATIN AMERICA? Will Moscow Station its Army in Venezuela?

The suffocating situation in which Venezuela has been found, largely due to economic sanctions, has forced the country to consider calling a foreign, that is a Russian, contingent on its territory.

Nowadays, Venezuela continues its fight to never again be a “backyard” of bigger powers, as it used to be in the past.

Lately Caracas has even become the target of threats of military intervention, only because its government follows a path that does not please foreign interests.

Moreover, in the midst of this struggle, Venezuela has also become the victim of a severe economic war, with the risk of being subject to more and more sanctions. Despite erroneous criticism that Venezuela’s economy is faltering due to its planned economy, what has been seen as a sanctions regiment against the country which has caused it grievous harm. Nevertheless, displaying no small amount of leadership, Maduro has publicly taken responsibility for the economy of Venezuela, and promised to rationalize and improve many areas of the economy. This is not analogous to privatization or the introduction of unnecessary market mechanisms.

Is Trump Eyeing A Coup In Venezuela?

The Trump administration and some others in the U.S. government have sent some not-so-subtle hints lately that they are open to a military invasion of Venezuela to oust President Nicolas Maduro.

“It’s a regime that frankly could be toppled very quickly by the military, if the military decides to do that,” President Trump told reporters on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday.

The words seem to offer some encouragement for a coup, which may not come as a surprise because the New York Times published an investigation in early September that found that the Trump administration met secretly with Venezuelan military officers over the last year to discuss an overthrow of Maduro.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is typical US Federal Government hubris; regime change, sometimes leading to brutal civil wars (think Afghanistan; Libya; Iraq;and Yemen); have the next leader infinitely more US-centric in his or her leanings than was their predecessor, and insure that the resources of that country are only sold in US dollars.

Talk of U.S. Military Intervention in Venezuela Suddenly Gains Traction

When President Donald Trump said a year ago that the U.S. was considering a “military option” for Venezuela, hardly anyone in Washington thought it was a good idea.

Today, as Venezuela slides toward dictatorship and collapse, triggering a millions-strong migration crisis, support for such a move is being discussed openly. The notion of using force to topple the government of President Nicolas Maduro is gaining adherents -- although it remains a distinctly minority view.

"No One Will Stop Us" - Venezuela's Maduro Slams Trump's UN Speech Which Hinted At Coup

During his Tuesday UN General Assembly address President Trump held nothing back in terms of excoriating the socialist pariah state of Venezuela and leader Nicolas Maduro.

"Not long ago, Venezuela was one of the richest countries on Earth," Trump said. "Today, socialism has bankrupted the oil-rich nation and driven its people into abject poverty."

Trump continued, "Virtually everywhere socialism or communism has been tried, it has produced suffering, corruption, and decay. Socialism’s thirst for power leads to expansion, incursion, and oppression. All nations of the world should resist socialism and the misery that it brings to everyone."

The US president blamed Venezuela's collapsed economy and worthless currency, which has created a humanitarian crisis resulting in some 2 million citizens fleeing the country in recent years on the “Maduro regime and its Cuban sponsors”.

U.S PLANS TO INVADE VENEZUELA WOULD BRING SAME SCALE OF CRISIS AS IRAQ WAR, Says Analyst

In August 2017, Donald Trump said he did not exclude the military option to solve the Venezuelan crisis, which provoked a strong rejection both inside and outside the United States. However, the idea remains present even though many express themselves against it, writes the Business Insider newspaper.

The military option for resolving the crisis in Venezuela is on the table or at least in the head of the US president. So the AP news agency reported earlier this summer that President Donald Trump had discussed the military invasion of Venezuela during a White House meeting last year. To bolster his arguments, Trump recalled the military interventions of Grenada and Panama, which he said were a success.

US Prepares For ‘Action’ Against Venezuela In Coming Days

The United States is preparing to take “action” against socialist Venezuela, while simultaneously going down the same path. U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that in the coming days, the US’s “series of actions” will put pressure on the Venezuelan government.

“You’ll see in the coming days a series of actions that continue to increase the pressure level against the Venezuelan leadership folks, who are working directly against the best interest of the Venezuelan people,” Pompeo said according to Reuters. “We’re determined to ensure that the Venezuelan people get their say.”

The Trump administration has been steadily increasing sanctions against officials in the leftist socialist government of President Nicolas Maduro, accusing it of “stifling democracy” by jailing opposition leaders. Although Pompeo did not say what actions specifically would be taken, it appears the US seeks to somehow “punish” Venezuela while continuing to take America down the same path.

Venezuela crisis: Chinese hospital ship docks for a week

A Chinese hospital ship has docked in Venezuela, where for the next week it will provide free health care to local patients.

Venezuela's Defence Minister Vladimir Padrino López, went to the port of La Guaira to welcome the Chinese crew.

He said that the Peace Ark's visit was agreed by President Nicolás Maduro during a visit to Beijing last week.

Venezuela agreed at the time to increase its exports of oil to China, which is one of its main creditors.

Pompeo: US Preparing a ‘Series of Actions’ Against Venezuela

Citing the US desire to increase pressure “against the Venezuelan leadership folks,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says that in the days to come, the administration will announce a series of actions against Venezuela.

Pompeo declined to offer any specifics, which is probably going to lead to speculation of something major coming, since recent reports of US policy toward Venezuela has been uniformly hostile.

President Trump threatened to attack Venezuela back in August of 2017, and this summer reports are that he’d repeatedly had to be talked out of such attacks. Early this month, the administration was confirmed to be engaging in secret coup talks with Venezuelan rebels.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would think that, with all the wars, present and coming, in which and with which the US military is embroiled, the plan may well be destabilization and regime change in Caracas, courtesy of hired rebels and mercs.

WINNING THE WAR ON DRUGS? COLOMBIAN COCAINE OUTPUT SOARS TO RECORD LEVELS

Colombia is producing more cocaine now than it ever has, according to a new report by Bloomberg. The amount of land planted with coca shrubs is up 17% last year, rising to 171,000 hectares, which surpasses levels prior to US president Bill Clinton’s "Plan Colombia" counter-narcotics program.

Almost all of the world's cocaine comes from Colombia, Bolivia and Peru. Colombia produces more than half of the total cocaine in the world. Under Clinton’s plan, the aid provided to Colombia over the course of the last six decades was "stepped up dramatically". Colombia has repaid the world by cranking out record levels of cocaine - probably not the solution Clinton, or other advocates for aid-giving, were seeking.

Colombia's 171,000 hectares is enough raw material to produce 1,379 tons of cocaine, according to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. It’s also more than triple the output of five years ago.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The alleged "War on Drugs" is, and always has been, a complete sham.

There are too many people, and institutions, making obscene amounts of money from the drug trade, for those in power to ever want it to end.

40% Of Venezuela Stores Go Bust After 3,000% Minimum Wage Hike

The "dream" of socialism has once again collided with the realities of economics, after nearly 40% of stores in Venezuela have been forced to close following a mandated 3,000% increase in minimum wages by the Maduro government, according to the Miami Herald, citing the National Council of Commerce and Services of Venezuela.

Further complicating the situation are price caps on goods sold in stores - which are now selling below cost, and cannot raise prices to cover the mandatory increases in salaries.

If store owners are caught raising prices, they face fines and prison.

"We have inspections, and they force us to sell at last month’s prices," said Uzcátegui. "That takes money away from the business because of the hyperinflation, when you can’t even sell at yesterday’s prices because you lose money."

MILITARY INTERVENTION IN VENEZUELA ‘ON THE TABLE,’ SAYS OAS SECRETARY GENERAL

The head of the Organization of American States (OAS), accused by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro of being a “CIA agent,” says military intervention against Caracas should not be ruled out as a response to the ongoing crisis.
OAS Secretary-General Luis Almagro has hinted that the bloc may consider taking military action in Venezuela if it runs out of diplomatic options in its bid to alleviate the plight of people in the crisis-stricken country.

“With regards to a military intervention aimed at overthrowing the regime of Nicolas Maduro, I think we should not exclude any option,” Almagro said on Friday.

Venezuelans have been fleeing to neighboring countries in droves due to shortages of food and water, as well as soaring inflation and unemployment at home.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Are you flipping kidding me, that OAS Secretary-General Luis Almagro is actually floating the idea of an invasion, occupation, and regime change in Venezuela, to see how it resonates?!?

I would like to hope that the OAS is not pig-headedly stupid as to attempt this; even with Venezuela's current economic woes, I would not bet that the Venezuelan people will "welcome these troops as saviors", throwing roses at their feet.

China Offers Venezuela $5 Billion Loan To Support 'Ideological Ally' Maduro

For a brief period earlier this year, it appeared that Beijing had finally had enough of supporting its "ideological allies" in Caracas when it decided to limit its "exposure" to Venezuela after the country struggled to make interest payments on a $19 billion loan. But in the wake of reports that the US nearly supported a military uprising against the socialist government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, the Chinese Communist Party has apparently changed its mind. Instead of tightening the leash, Beijing has offered a $5 billion loan to the struggling socialist "republic" as Maduro prepares to travel to Beijing to grovel before the Party bosses, according to a Bloomberg report.

Webmaster's Commentary:

China is trying to counter the US economic war against Venezuela.

Iran WARNING: US tells airlines not to fly through airspace as WW3 fears rise

The advisory also warns military activities linked to the bloody conflict in Syria have been ramped across Iran's airspace.

Tensions between Tehran and Washington are running high following Donald Trump’s controversial decision to pull out of the landmark Iran nuclear deal re-introduce economic sanctions last month.

Flight Service Bureau, which provides safety information on airspace to airlines, said "without seeming alarmist", the deteriorating relationship between the US and Iran must be taken into account when planning flights in Iran's airspace.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is getting just about as serious as is a heart attack: I find myself very alarmed at these developments.

Venezuela Is Doing Something It Hasn’t Done Since The 90s

Caracas is preparing the return of oil contracts with private companies that were last used in the 1990s before the Chavez era that made PDVSA the one and only operator of oil fields. Reuters reported this week it had seen a draft of the contract stipulating the state oil company will give control over several fields to a set of local companies for a period of six years. The companies will have to commit to boosting production, funding field maintenance, and purchasing whatever equipment they need to do all this. In exchange, PDVSA will pay them a fee for the oil they extract.

The other 9/11 tragedy: The day Chile’s democracy died

***
While many around the globe remember 9/11, fewer may recall that before 2001, September 11 was already known as a day of catastrophe for those residing in the less affluent Global South. September 11 1973 was a day when democracy in Latin America was dealt a heavy blow, a day when a democratically-elected government in Chile was struck by a coup supported by the CIA, no less. The response of Chile’s president, Dr Salvador Allende, to an attack on democracy could not be more different from the reaction of George W. Bush 28 years later. President Allende fought to the end for his country’s democracy.

VENEZUELA PLANS "ANTI-IMPERIALIST" MARCH AFTER REVELATION OF US COUP MEETINGS WITH REBEL OFFICERS

After it was revealed in a weekend New York Times piece that the Trump administration held multiple meetings with "rebellious officers" inside Venezuela's army to consider launching a military coup against the country's socialist dictator Nicolás Maduro, we cited a former Latin America diplomatic official quoted in the Times who aptly described, “This is going to land like a bomb” in the region.

The astounding revelation — though perhaps familiar-sounding when considering the historical string of coups and CIA covert interventions across the 20th century from Cuba to Nicaragua to Chile — comes just over a month after a bizarre assassination attempt involving two C-4 explosive laden drones which detonated near Maduro as he gave a televised speech during a military parade in Caracas.

In the aftermath of the story, Venezuela has announced plans to hold a massive march on Tuesday against Washington's now confirmed attempts to meddle in the country's internal affairs.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Color me completely unsurprised, given Venezuela's vast oil wealth.

And unfortunately for the Venezuelan people, the attempted assassination on August 4th will most probably not be the last time elements in the US government will attempt to take down Maduro by force.

Trump Officials Met Venezuela Military 'Coup Plotters'

Trump administration officials held secret meetings with Venezuelan military officers to discuss plans to oust President Nicolas Maduro, according to a report by the New York Times.

The news outlet said on Saturday that at least three distinct groups from the military were involved in attempts at overthrowing the Venezuelan leader.

According to the report, there were plans for a coup in the summer of 2017, and later in March and May of this year. However, when US officials declined to cooperate, the plans for Maduro's overthrow fell apart.

The report comes just a month after two explosive-laden drones blew up near Maduro in an apparent assassination attempt. He blamed the US, Colombia, and his domestic enemies for the attack.

The Burning Down of Brazil’s National Museum: A Capitalist Crime Against the Heritage of Humanity

Brazil’s National Museum in Rio de Janeiro was gutted Sunday night by a massive fire that consumed not only the historic 19th century palace that housed the institution, but a vast and irreplaceable collection of what was by far the largest natural history and anthropology museum in Latin America. The majority of the 20 million items it contained were destroyed.

While the immediate cause of the blaze is still unknown, this catastrophe and the irreparable loss to human culture were the product of policies of austerity and the diversion of vast social resources to feed the profits of international finance capital and a rapacious and culturally backward Brazilian capitalist ruling class.
