Yet another blow for child abuse inquiry after it's revealed that the Home Office coached 'independent' experts about how to answer 'difficult questions'

The troubled inquiry into historic child abuse is facing fresh criticism after it emerged that panel members were told what to say to MPs by a long-serving Home Office official.

Experts and abuse survivors were given a 23-page document advising them how to answer ‘difficult questions’ when they appeared before a high-profile committee, prompting fears that the huge Government-ordered investigation is not independent.

It can also be revealed that the woman in charge of administration for the inquiry was seconded from the Home Office, where she has worked for 36 years – even though the department is at the centre of many of the allegations of cover-ups and VIP paedophile rings.

House Democrats itching for fight with GOP, battle for majority takeover in 2016

The MPAA Isn't About Helping Hollywood. It's About Preserving Its Own Need To Exist.

In the past we've discussed the Shirky Principle, named after a statement by Clay Shirky that:

"Institutions will try to preserve the problem to which they are the solution."

In some ways that's a corollary to Upton Sinclair's famous quote:

"It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it!"

Mitt Romney says no to 2016 White House run

Former Massachusetts Gov. and 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney will not run for president in 2016, he told supporters on a conference call Friday.

“After putting considerable thought into making another run for president, I’ve decided it is best to give other leaders in the party the opportunity to become our next nominee,” he said.

Bibi Netanyahu and the Myth of the ‘Special Relationship’

The Boehner ploy has split the pro-Israel community down the middle, with such stalwarts as the Anti-Defamation League’s Abe Foxman denouncing it as "ill-advised" and former US Ambassador to Israel Martin Indyk – founder of the staunchly pro-Israel Saban Center at the Brookings Institution – saying:

"Netanyahu is using the Republican Congress for a photo-op for his election campaign, and the Republicans are using Bibi for their campaign against Obama. Unfortunately, the US relationship will take the hit. It would be far wiser for us to stay out of their politics and for them to stay out of ours.”

Former Sex Slave Accuses Alan Dershowitz, Prince Andrew

In a federal civil suit, Virginia Roberts states she was recruited as a sex slave at age 15 by billionaire and convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein; Roberts says Epstein forced her to have sex with former Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz and Britain’s Prince Andrew—both deny the allegations. Based on Epstein’s “black book” and his pilot’s logs, Nick Bryant reports that Dershowitz’s strenuous denials are contradicted by these records, and indicate that former president Bill Clinton shared more than a dozen flights on Epstein’s jets with a woman federal prosecutors believe procured underage girls to sexually service Epstein and his friends

Occupied By Wall Street – The Latest TARP Taxpayer Screw-Job Is Revealed

The Treasury-created market has benefited a few savvy investors, while saddling taxpayers with a loss. Three private funds, which the report didn’t name, have won almost half the shares available at auction, often netting either a profit on paper or on the resale, according to the special inspector general for the Troubled Asset Relief Program. The Treasury, which has held 185 auctions to date, said it has raised about $3 billion on TARP investments that were originally valued at $3.8 billion, for a loss of $800 million at the auctions.

The Treasury “set up this market where investors could come in quickly and flip and profit,” said Christy Romero, TARP’s special inspector general, in an interview.

Netanyahu speech scandal blows up, and ‘soiled’ Dermer looks like the fall guy

With even AIPAC washing its hands of the speech, it sure looks as if Israel supporters want an exit from this fiasco. Jettisoning Israeli ambassador Ron Dermer or cancelling the speech would seem like a small price to pay in the news cycle next to a spectacle in which leading Democrats are forced to line up against Netanyahu in Washington, even as they file in and out of the AIPAC policy conference and praise Israel to the skies.

Here are the developments. First, the New York Times’ Julie Hirschfeld Davis has a report of unleashed White House fury over the invitation. The story contains the signal that Ron Dermer, the Israeli ambassador, will be the fall guy for the scandal:

Air Force investigate Major General 'who told officers that talking to members of Congress about A-10 attack aircraft was equivalent to TREASON'

The Air Force is probing allegations that a Major General told lower-ranking officers that talking to members of Congress about the capabilities of the A-10 attack aircraft is equivalent to treason.

The alleged comment by Maj. Gen. James Post, a prominent leader at the prestigious Air Combat Command, has stirred concern in Congress about the Air Force muzzling officers in violation of their legal rights.

Air Force leaders have proposed retiring the A-10 fleet but Congress has refused, and some inside the Air Force have sided with Congress.

The A-10 is a very capable aircraft, but Pentagon officers who profit from new weapons development programs want to scrap it in favor of some new whiz-bang piece of junk that is not really needed.

Senate GOP demands Obama turn over all communications with IRS

Senate Republicans asked President Obama Thursday to turn over all communications he and his aides have had with the IRS since 2010, hoping to find out whether the tax agency shared private taxpayer information with political operatives at the White House.

The request, made in a letter obtained by The Washington Times, is signed by new Finance Chairman Orrin G. Hatch and all 13 other Republicans on the committee, and is addressed specifically to Mr. Obama, saying they want to see if his employees broke the law by acquiring or sharing private information.

Big Business “Regulators” and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP): Opening the Floodgates to Corporate Plunder

A new leak concerning the talks around the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) indicates that the floodgates could be opened even further for corporate influence. The leak has been analysed by the corporate watchdogs CEO and LobbyControl and shows that corporate influence on EU and US policies might dramatically increase via the chapter on so-called ‘regulatory cooperation’.

The leak of the EU draft negotiating proposal dated January 23rd makes unmistakably clear that the EU is seeking a very ambitious chapter that strengthens the role of business in future regulatory legislation possibly via a new institution, the Regulatory Cooperation Body (RCB). Its role would be to coordinate the process of regulatory coherence between the US and the EU and would effectively limit policy space and sideline the public and civil organisations.

President of Soros Founded Economic Institute Says Global Elite In Panic Mode

It wasn't that long ago that Wall Street legend Barton Briggs told super rich to buy farms away from megacities and stock up on food and guns. Many plans have been put forward such as floating cities and armed luxury vessels that will be deployed international waters to keep the 'brigands at bay'. The average working family have surely noticed the price of food and other goods rising but the neo-aristocracy have technocrats and economic forecasters at their disposal and they know the ledge. I wonder how many degenerate French nobility escaped the guillotine? Destabilizing paranoia is rife among the rich but the Soros-backed INET must have some interesting revelations that they won't share with the rest of us.

D.C. Whispers: Bill Clinton Literally Hangs Up On Obama

Rumors are circulating of an ever widening rift between the Clinton and Obama camps, most recently worsened by the president’s State of the Union address last week. Clinton operatives repeatedly asked to be allowed input into the SOTU messaging in the weeks leading up to the address. These requests were ignored – entirely, by the Obama White House. Now with dissatisfaction regarding the general tone and content of Barack Obama’s SOTU, the Clinton Machine is said to be preparing a “talk right over them” offensive, which will further minimize the importance and influence of the now fading Obama presidency as the Clintons prepare to launch their 2016 campaign in earnest later this spring.

The congressional Democrats involved in writing the Affordable Care Act told the Supreme Court on Wednesday that they intended for consumers in all states to be eligible for subsidies, and they argue that the law they drafted reflects that intention.

Americans' satisfaction with the federal government is at an all-time low

Independents now outnumber Republicans, Democrats; Americans awaken to the two-party system scam

For years, they have been sought after by both major parties as the one political demographic that could swing national elections in their favor, and going forward into 2016 and beyond, voters who identify themselves as neither Republican nor Democrat, but as "independent," will become even more important.

That's because the number of independents has grown dramatically in recent years -- so much so that now they outnumber voters who describe themselves as belonging to one of the two primary parties. It's a sign, say political scientists, that more voters are becoming frustrated with a "two-party system" in which they see little difference between choices.

Is John Boehner a Traitor?

So, why is Boehner's invitation to Netanyahu such a big deal?

First off, it's a huge violation of protocol and massively disrespectful to President Obama and the authority of the executive branch.

It is completely unprecedented for the Speaker of the House, or any member of Congress, to invite a foreign leader to come to the US and speak to Congress without getting authorization and/or cooperation from the White House.

As Guy Ziv, a professor at American University who has studied US-Israeli relations told TPM, "It's unprecedented. It's hitting below the belt. It's taking partisanship to a whole new level."

By inviting Netanyahu to speak to Congress without the authority of the executive branch, Speaker Boehner is badly blurring the lines of national sovereignty, and again massively disrespecting typical protocol.

Key defendant pleads guilty in HOA takeover scheme

Another key defendant pleaded guilty Tuesday in the scheme to take over and defraud Las Vegas-area homeowners associations.

He is to be sentenced on July 20 by U.S. District Judge James Mahan.

Prosecutors have alleged that McChesney was a straw buyer and controlled HOA board members in the massive takeover conspiracy that occurred between 2003 and 2009. Robbery cuts into hours and credibility at 24/7 Private Vaults

The vault operation, which has touted its confidentiality and untraceable anonymity in local advertising, was the scene of a robbery and kidnapping at 5:15 a.m. on April 14. Metro police say three masked men entered the facility, restrained an employee, then popped open and emptied out an as yet undisclosed number of safe deposit boxes.

In an unintentionally humorous moment, a detective with Metro's Robbery Section is asking for assistance from the anonymous customers of the private vault business. While you might think people who went to all the trouble of paying for private lock boxes would want their prized possessions returned, something tells me not all will be interested in discussing their losses with members of law enforcement.

Color me skeptical, but I can't recall many legitimate reasons a person would want an anonymous lock box with 24-hour access. Gamblers, for instance, have easy access to casino lock boxes.

Benzer, who once owned Silver Lining construction, and 10 others were indicted in the scheme in January 2013, and several months later Benzer was indicted again on charges of evading $1.2 million in personal and company taxes. The charges were related to more than $7 million Benzer and his company obtained from a fraudulent contract with the Vistana condominium development to do construction defect work.

Five of the 10 defendants charged in the first indictment with Benzer, including attorney Barry Levinson, previously pleaded guilty and are waiting to be sentenced.

The sweeping investigation that led to the indictments, spearheaded by the Justice Department’s Fraud Section in Washington, is thought to be the largest public corruption case federal authorities have brought in Southern Nevada. As 2016 race begins, GOP faces its Palin problem

As a chance to evaluate possible 2016 Republican presidential candidates, the Freedom Summit here in Des Moines was a solid success. Several potential candidates — Scott Walker, Ted Cruz, Chris Christie, and a few others — left the 10-hour political marathon with their prospects undeniably enhanced.

All that was good news for Republicans. But at the same time, more than a few GOP loyalists came away shaking their heads at the performance of a party star, former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, whose long, rambling, and at times barely coherent speech left some wondering what role she should play in Republican politics as the 2016 race begins in earnest.

The Death of Vincent Foster

This is the story that nobody dares touch. This is the story that ended my career in Hollywood back in 1994.

Despite having reported the discovery of Dr. Haut's signed report confirming the existence of a second wound to Vincent Foster's neck, radio host Rush Limbaugh to this very day refers to Vincent Foster's death as a suicide.

Even Matt Drudge, when presented with the FBI records proving that the FBI fraudulently manufactured Lisa Foster's recognition of the gun found at Fort Marcy Park, refused to get involved, opting instead for a story accusing Sidney Blumenthal of domestic violence (for which Drudge was then sued and made famous).

Webmaster's Commentary:

Everyone is focusing on Bill Clinton's wild parties with Jeff Epstein and speculating on how this might deter Hillary from running in 2016.

Quite the contrary, yet another sex scandal for Bill will actually HELP Hillary because she will win sympathy from the female voters by playing the wronged woman, and more importantly, focusing on Bill's sexcapades distracts from the real Hillary scandals that could end her career such as the cattle futures trades, Travel office firings, herself being fired from the Watergate committee, being photographed with a known cocaine smuggler in front of the White House Christmas Tree, and of course, the murder of Vince Foster!

Special Report: Notes on Another Clinton Scandal - Was Vince Foster Killed?

We encountered one of those while on a road trip through Arkansas – and stopping off in Hope. It is not only the famed birthplace of former president Bill Clinton, as well as former governor Mike Huckabee, it is also the hometown and burial ground of Vince Foster, a man who was childhood neighbors with Bill, partner at the Rose Law Firm with Hillary, and as deputy legal council for the White House, one of the closest keepers of the Clinton Administration’s most personal secrets.

Early into the first term, when the Clintons found themselves already embroiled in scandals including those surrounding the Travel Staff and Whitewater financial investigations, Vince Foster was found dead in Fort Darcy Park, officially ruled to be a suicide – but suggesting much more.

Here are some of the better known names:

Bill Maher advises billionaires on which GOP ‘corporate a*s-lickers’ they should support

Bill Maher closed out Real Time on Friday with a “buyers’ guide” for any billionaires looking to support one of the nine prospective Republican presidential contenders.

“The field is more crowded at an earlier time than ever because each of these corporate a*s-lickers wants to sign up mega-rich donors like Sheldon Adelson before one of the other guys in the pack blows him first,” Maher explained, before presenting the upside and downside to each candidate.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As a centerist progressive, I have a "hug and a punch" relationship with Maher's work, and I did see this bit last night, and it was funny.

However, this segment did an interesting job of exposing Maher's
pathological myopia, which means he is completely blind to the corruption in the party he prefers; and that, intellectually, is a very dangerous place to be.

His absolute darling, Hillary Clinton, is no less staunchly supported by Wall Street and the corporate monied interests than is Barak Obama, his faux populism notwithstanding. Republicans have no exclusive claim here to want as much money as possible from their corporate masters in order to win in 2016 than the Democrats.

As reported last December at Salon.com:

Few political families are closer to Wall Street than the Clintons. Their family foundation has raised millions from financiers and the foundations of big banks, and recently held its annual briefing for donors in the auditorium of Goldman Sachs’s headquarters in Manhattan. Major financial firms are stocked with Clinton alumni. And the Clintons often interact with the titans of finance on the Manhattan charity circuit and during their vacations in the Hamptons. Last month, Mr. and Mrs. Clinton sat at a table with Hamilton E. James, president of the Blackstone Group, and mingled with the billionaire David H. Koch at a benefit for the Wildlife Conservation Society. I’m thinking of Hillary also using the Obama playbook, early-on posturing as some kind of a PRAGMATIC “community organizer” bridge builder between the classes seeking out WIN/WIN solutions. In Obama’s case it turned out to be "community organizing" the Dem Party leadership class with the BIG MONEY ELITE class, and giving the rest of the population a rhetorical snow-job which many still haven’t managed to dig themselves out of into real, justified angry consciousness. Since leaving her position as Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton has enjoyed phenomenally well paying speaking engagements such as the ones for Goldman Sachs. Goldman also generously has been using Bill Clinton on its speech circuit. Last month, Hillary Clinton also was pitching the trustworthiness of the biotech industry at their national conference. According to Queally she offered the biotech execs “political advice on how to overcome public opposition to the use of genetically-modified seeds and industrial-scale, chemical-based agriculture.”

To characterise all Republicans as corporate sycophants, eagerly ready to carry out the agenda of their corporate masters, who have purchased their allegiance, and not see Hillary Clinton in precisely the same light, given her and Bill Clinton's strong corporate ties, is completely intellectually dishonest.

So, Bill Maher, aye, there's the rub: no matter who America elects for President in 2016, We the People are screwed.

This is because no matter who gets elected to high office in this country, they are still beholden to the same set of Corporate donors, who put them in office, to carry out their agenda. This is no longer a country of We the People; but Those, the Corporations. And these are the entities which are really crafting foreign and domestic policies. We the people have become expendable.

LaRouche Warns: Wall Street's Growing Desperation Is Fueling Global Thermonuclear Showdown

Wall Street is on the edge of another financial tsunami, and this is driving the world towards general war, with the latest provocations in Ukraine serving as the immediate trigger for confrontation with Russia.

As Citibank was the latest of the Wall Street too-big-to-fail banks to post serious fourth-quarter losses, and as the Wall Street banks were announcing 50,000 layoffs, half-way around the globe the Ukrainian government was launching new provocations against Russia, meeting with top NATO generals and announcing a draft to call up 100,000 new troops to launch a military offensive against its own citizens in eastern Ukraine.

All aboard the 'Lolita Express': Flight logs reveal the many trips Bill Clinton and Alan Dershowitz took on pedophile Jeffrey Epstein's private jet with anonymous women

Just released flight records show Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz has been flying with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein on the financier's private jet dubbed the 'Lolita Express' since as early as 1997, despite public statements that they were only acquaintances.

The high-profile lawyer has been distancing himself from Epstein ever since a young woman named Virginia Roberts filed a lawsuit claiming she was recruited to work as a 'sex slave' for Epstein when she was just 15, naming both Dershowitz and Prince Andrew as two of her molesters.

Kentucky State Senator: 1891 Rule Voids My DUI Bust

A Kentucky state senator accused of driving drunk on the legislature's opening day this month has invoked a law brought in by predecessors who traveled in horse-drawn carriages. Brandon Smith's lawyer filed a request this week to dismiss his DUI charge based on an 1891 provision in the state constitution saying that, barring felonies, treason, or "breach or surety of the peace," assembly members are "privileged from arrest during their attendance on the sessions of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same," WKYT reports. State police say the Republican was speeding and smelled of booze during a Jan. 6 traffic stop.

Obama won’t meet Netanyahu during ‘bizarre,’ ‘historic,’ ‘unprecedented’ visit

White House and State Department won’t meet with Netanyahu on his March visit to address both houses of Congress. Emergency Committee for Israel calls this a snub.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I agree with Obama on this one. Netanyahu and Boehner are trying to hijack the AMERICAN Congress to serve Israel's agenda. Obama knows that war with Iran means war with Russia and while a degree of conflict is desired to forestall the rise of the Ruble, all-out war will cost millions of lives and there is the real possibility the US will lose.

Israel, like the bankers, doesn't care who wins or loses so long as their personal wealth and power are elevated in the process. Obama, in his final two years in office and no longer dependent on Israeli support for future elections, seems to be looking at the situation from the point of view of the US, and that is a good thing!

Alan Dershowitz denies EVER being around underage women in presence of pedophile Jeffrey Epstein... just one day after 'sex slave' said he would chat with the billionaire during sex acts

A Harvard law professor named with Prince Andrew in a 'sex slave' case today insisted that he never saw anything improper at the home of their billionaire pedophile friend, Jeffrey Epstein.

Alan Dershowitz's claims on Thursday came just one day after accuser Virginia Roberts said in new court filings that the lawyer would chat with Epstein as she performed a sex act on the billionaire.

Speaking in an emphatic interview on the Today show , Dershowitz again accused Roberts of 'making the whole thing up' and said her lawyers are putting 'real' rape victims 'in a terrible position'.

'I was never in the presence of a single underage woman,' he said. 'I never saw [Epstein] doing anything improper. I was not a witness. I was not a participant. And I will prove it.'

We’ve Let The Clowns Come Way Too Far

In Tuesday’s State of the Union, Obama said The ‘Shadow Of Crisis Has Passed’, and the one and the only thing I thought was: ‘Good, so now we can tackle the crisis itself?!’. If speeches like the SOTU Tuesday night, and the reactions to it, make anything clear, it’s that the PR guys won the fight against critical thinking. Sure, there are people for whom that shadow has passed, but a president is supposed to be there for all Americans, not just for those who finance his campaigns and those of his successors.

Joni Ernst Received Government Assistance? GOP Senator’s Family Took $460,000 In Taxpayer Handouts

Joni Ernst, the new Republican senator from Iowa who delivered the GOP response to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union speech Tuesday night, called in her address for cuts in government spending and described how her views grew out of her own “simple” upbringing, one in which her family diligently watched ever scarce penny, to the point where she owned only one pair of shoes.

But an investigation of public records by the Washington D.C.-based District Sentinel online news site showed that between 1995 and 2009, Ernst’s family received nearly a half-million dollars in government handouts, payments targeted toward subsidizing farms with taxpayer funds.

Second Canadian Company Completing Tar-Sands Pipeline into the U.S.

For six years, TransCanada has negotiated federal and state laws, and contended with the opposition of environmental organizations and landowners, to build the Keystone XL: a 36-inch-diameter, 1,700-mile pipeline that, if completed, would transport 830,000 barrels per day (bpd) of Canadian tar-sands oil from Alberta, Canada, to the Gulf Coast.

The U.S. State Department has not issued the required presidential permit, which would declare the importing of tar-sands oil in the “national interest.” And the Nebraska Supreme Court just heard oral arguments on a landowners’ lawsuit that could cost TransCanada another year if it has to reapply for its permit in the state.

The stalled process has led one equities analyst to observe that, “Keystone XL doesn’t look like it will ever get fully up and running.”

Israel’s Netanyahu Was Imported by GOP to Ensure a War with Iran

Republican House Majority leader John Boehner secretly invited Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to Washington to address Congress and then once it was set up he let Barack Obama know about it.

The reason for bringing Netanyahu is that Boehner wants to craft a super-majority in Congress that can over-ride Obama’s veto of new sanctions on Iran. He doesn’t have enough Republican votes to do so, but if he can get Democrats beholden to the Israel lobbies of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee to join the veto over-ride effort, he might succeed.

Washington supreme court hears arguments on Olympia co-op’s boycott of Israeli goods

The Washington State Supreme Court heard oral arguments on Tuesday in the case against sixteen current and former members of the Olympia Food Co-op board of directors. The plaintiffs say the board exceeded its authority by passing a resolution to boycott Israeli goods five years ago.

Lawyers for the plaintiffs — five former members of the co-op, which has 22,000 members — argued against both the 2010 decision to boycott Israeli goods and against a Washington State law that saw their previous attempts to stop the boycott defeated in lower courts.

Congress invites Netanyahu to rebut Obama on Iran, and White House slams ‘breach of protocol’

Obama was warning the Israel lobby; bug out of these negotiations. That’s the line he drew in the sand in the New York Times last week, criticizing donor pressure on Democratic senators.

Well, Congress has responded. This morning it invited Netanyahu to speak to a joint session in the House chamber on February 11– a month before the Israeli elections (as Haaretz noted).

House Speaker John Boehner’s statement on the invite plays off of the Paris murders, and grants Netanyahu an authority he doesn’t seem to grant Obama:

CDC caught inflating flu deaths to sell more vaccines

You know that "36,000" number the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) is constantly throwing around as the number of people in the U.S. who supposedly die every year from influenza? It's completely made up, and its purpose is to sell more flu vaccines, as evidenced by actual mortality data showing that only a few hundred people at most die from influenza annually.

As highlighted by the American Society of Registered Nurses (ASRN), government claims that tens or even hundreds of thousands of people are dying left and right because they aren't getting their flu shots is total bunk. Data pulled from death certificates and the U.S. National Vital Statistics System (NVSS) reveal that very few people die from the flu, suggesting that it really isn't much of a threat.

He remained on the board for an additional year, leaving after a fellow board member started to unravel the widespread fraud that eventually led to the firm’s demise and the criminal convictions of two top executives.
