Cyber Guard Exercise Simulated Attacks On Critical Infrastructure

WEBMASTER ADDITION: So maybe they broke into OPM's database, and China gets the blame. Because if you think about it, stealing blackmail information only has value if nobody knows the crime took place. The blackmailer is very selective and only steals what they need, to minimize the risk of detection. Stealing tens of millions of records is intended to be noticed! That is why I do not think China had anything to do with this.

US Presidential campaign 2016: Bernie Sanders - the socialist Senator going after billionaires and mega-banks - and garnering widespread support

A CNN poll in New Hampshire shows Mr Sanders just eight points behind Ms Clinton. In Iowa, he is 19 points behind her, according to a Quinnipiac survey. But in May, the gap was 45 points, so he is catching up fast.

...

Senator Sanders, rumpled and stern, faces huge hurdles. He vows to refuse billionaire donations, a stand that delighted the crowd here, but which will put him at a disadvantage in a race where money obviously does matter. Last week his campaign said it had raised $15m (£9.7m) since April through small donations averaging $35 from about 250,000 people – a decent number that also speaks to the grassroots groundswell he is creating. But Ms Clinton raised a handier $45m.

Gaza is ‘a recurring threat to peace’!

The British taxpayer, yet again, picks up the tab for the wreckage left behind by Israeli war crimes. It’s a paltry sum considering the Israelis caused damage estimated at $6 billion. If it wasn’t for the rotten windows of Lord Davies’ mansion and his crumbling bell tower we could afford to give more.

No prison for accounting executive in Madoff fraud case

A New York accounting firm executive who worked for some of Bernard Madoff's most important clients has been spared prison time.

Seventy-nine-year-old Paul Konigsberg was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Manhattan. He pleaded guilty last year to conspiracy and falsifying books and records.

The judge did not require any post-sentence supervision of Konigsberg, leaving him free to visit grandchildren in Russia. Konigsberg smiled and hugged family and friends after the ruling came down.

Time to Rethink US Mideast Policies

There is much to be said for what is commonly called a “zero-based review” — a fresh look at a problem or project unencumbered by existing assumptions and practices. Just about any organization or mission could benefit periodically from such an assessment, to make possible the removal of accumulated historical impedimenta. This is true of U.S. foreign policy, which exhibits far more continuity than is often assumed.

President Obama Accepts Slavery in Order to Win TPP Trade Deal

So that U.S. President Barack Obama can end a roadblock and win the agreement of other nations for his proposed Trans Pacific Partnership, he has decided to remove one of the nations, Malaysia, from the U.S. State Department’s official list of countries that allow slavery. Malaysia, which recently found over a hundred graves of discarded slaves, has been on the U.S. State Department’s “Tier 3” list of slave nations, along with North Korea, Zimbabwe, Syria, and Iran, but, unlike those other countries, Obama wants Malaysia to be included in his Trans Pacific Partnership; so, he has decided to remove Malaysia from that official list.

Emails Show Secretary Clinton Disobeyed Obama Policy And Continued Funding For Honduras Coup Regime

Buried in the latest trove of Hillary Clinton emails made public last week are some missives that shed new light on the former Secretary of State’s role in seemingly undermining President Barack Obama’s policy in dealing with the 2009 coup d’état in Honduras.

The official emails recently made public by the State Department —more than 3,000 pages worth — were sent or received primarily in 2009 through Clinton’s private email account — via an email server set up outside the government’s system and used to conduct official business.

One email exchange discovered in the recently released batch of State Department communications reveals that Clinton personally signed off on continuing the flow of US funds to the putsch regime in Honduras in the fall of 2009 — even as the White House was telling the world that such aid had been suspended.

Long-Term Toxicity of a Roundup Herbicide and a Roundup-Tolerant Genetically Modified Maize

A long-term study claiming to show toxic effects on rats of the herbicide Roundup and genetically modified (GM) Roundup-tolerant maize (corn) was originally published in 2012 (Seralini et al. 2012). It roused significant controversy. The journal retracted the article — although it had been peer-reviewed and elicited no “red flags” during the review process. The authors stood by their findings. In 2014, this study was re-published in a different journal (Seralini et al. 2014).

Contracting and Expanding the NSA’s Powers

Can we be generous enough to say that Edward Snowden scored a considerable coup last week with the change in Washington’s attitudes to the National Security Agency? Even by his own admission, the whistleblower is pleased that the bulk collection of records may well be seeing its last days. In a statement released through the American Civil Liberties Union, Snowden used the term “turning point”, a rather tepid observation that did not detract from his overall sentiment.

Bernie Packs The House: Draws Crowd of 7,500 in Town of 66,000 Residents

We told you weeks ago that Senator Bernie Sanders is the untold story of the Democratic Primary race. While media has treated Hillary Clinton as the presumptive Democratic nominee, Sanders has been building a massive groundswell of support from grassroots Democratic supporters.

Sanders, is doing more than creating a buzz, he is filling stadiums across the northeast and is becoming the face of the anti-establishment movement. So why is Sanders support growing, despite a media—including print, broadcast, cable and internet—that is so Clinton-centric? The answer may be pretty simple. Senator Sanders isn’t building his campaign based on Clinton’s weaknesses. Instead, he is focusing on issues that millions of Americans—many in the Democratic Party—are concerned over.

Same-Sex Couple Denied Marriage License In Kentucky Because Of Clerk's Religious Beliefs

On June 26, the Supreme Court made the landmark decision to legalize gay marriage nationwide. At the time, the court said it was granting same-sex couples “equal dignity in the eyes of the law.”

But as this recent video of two men being denied a marriage license in Kentucky shows, not all couples are being granted this right.

David Moore and his fiancé have been together for 17 years, and have lived in Rowan County, Kentucky for 10. “We feel it’s our right as citizens, according to the Supreme Court and according to the governor of Kentucky, that we should be able to get married,” said the couple in a video uploaded to YouTube Tuesday.

Donald Trump has surged to the top of 2 new 2016 polls

Donald Trump's position on immigration does not seem to be hurting the real-estate developer's standing in the Republican presidential primary.

Two new polls have him in first place among registered Republican voters.

The latest poll arrived Thursday. In the Economist/YouGov poll, Trump holds 15% of the Republican vote nationally — ahead of former Gov. Jeb Bush of Florida (11%).

The good news for Trump doesn't stop there.

Hillary Clinton’s claim that ‘everything I did [on e-mails] was permitted’

With her very careful language, Clinton skirts some of the important issues concerning her private e-mail account. She appears to be arguing her case on narrow, technical grounds, but that’s not the same as actually complying with existing rules as virtually everyone else understood them.

In reality, Clinton’s decision to use a private e-mail system for official business was highly unusual and flouted State Department procedures, even if not expressly prohibited by law at the time. Moreover, while she claims “everything I did was permitted,” she appears to have not complied with the requirement to turn over her business-related e-mails before she left government service. That’s a major misstep that she has not acknowledged.

We wavered between Two and Three Pinocchios, but Clinton’s excessive spin finally tipped us toward Three. She’s goes too far in suggesting her actions were ordinary–and did not stretch the limits of existing laws and regulations.

Democrat fundraiser and gay activist Terry Bean, facing trial on sodomy charges with young boy

Prominent Democratic fundraiser and gay activist Terry Bean, accused of sexual involvement with an underage boy, is trying to resolve the criminal case through a settlement with the alleged victim.

Bean has proposed a civil compromise that could result in the dismissal of the criminal charges, though the prosecutor in the case said he will fight the deal. A judge would have to approve the settlement.

A civil compromise usually includes restitution. The court filings do not say whether the boy would receive cash as part of the agreement.

Bean, 66, and his former boyfriend, Kiah Loy Lawson, are each charged with two counts of third-degree sodomy, a felony, and third-degree sexual abuse, a misdemeanor. They pleaded not guilty to the charges and are scheduled for trial Aug. 11.

Hillary Clinton Lied to CNN and America About Being Subpoenaed

CLINTON: You know, you're starting with so many assumptions that are - I've never had a subpoena. There is - again, let's take a deep breath here. Everything I did was permitted by law and regulation. I had one device. When I mailed anybody in the government, it would go into the government system.

Now I didn't have to turn over anything. I chose to turn over 55,000 pages because I wanted to go above and beyond what was expected of me because I knew the vast majority of everything that was official already was in the State Department system.

Trump denies RNC chief chastised him

Donald Trump is pushing back against reports that Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus voiced concerns to him about the billionaire's tone when talking about undocumented immigrants during a Wednesday phone call.

A Republican source familiar with the call told CNN on Wednesday that Priebus expressed his concern to Trump during the call and that they discussed a range of topics.

"Look, I've gotta tell you, I spent four years trying to make inroads with the Hispanic community ... how we address illegal immigration is very important," to winning back Hispanics politically, Priebus said at the end of the call, according to the GOP source.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So according to the GOP, illegals breaking US laws, using up resources, not paying taxes, carrying contagious diseases, many of them proven criminals, is all unimportant compared to the fact that they might vote for the GOP (even though only US citizens are legally allowed to vote).

Nigel Farage Destroys EU Group-Think: "There's A New Berlin Wall... And It's Called The Euro"

Today it’s not nearly as controversial to say that the Eurozone experiment has failed. Anyone aware of what’s happening in Greece should say the same. But very few people really understand why.

As Nigel explains in the video below, right from the start, the system was never intended to help the Greek people.

Greece entering the euro was great for Goldman Sachs. But terrible for Greeks. It chained the country to a system in which it didn’t belong.

And what about all the bailout money that’s been thrown at Greece in the time since?

None of it actually went to the Greek people. It went to bail out the French, German, and Italian banks who own Greek debt.

JP Morgan to Pay Another Slap on the Wrist Fine for Engaging in Systemic Consumer Credit Card Debt Fraud

Just yesterday, I published a post titled: Florida Man Sentenced to 2.5 Years in Jail for Having Sex on the Beach. The purpose of that post wasn’t to justify his actions, but rather to highlight the difference between how average citizens are treated under the U.S. “justice” system, and how thieving, remorseless financial oligarchs are treated.

While, Mr. Caballero may have ruined the day of a few beach goers by crudely having sex on a public beach in broad daylight, he didn’t run the U.S. economy into the ground and cause destitution to tens of millions of Americans. Nor did he received trillions in taxpayer backstops and bailouts, only to turn around and pay himself a record bonus and then carry on with extremely profitable, illegal financial schemes. No, it was the bank executives who did (and continue to do) all of that. Guess who ends up in prison?

Monsanto Off the Hook for Cancers From PCBs It Produced

Plaintiffs in the case developed lymphohematopoietic cancer after being exposed to PCBs. The Post-Dispatch reports that a St. Louis County jury found the company not liable for the deaths and health effects from the exposure.

As to why Solutia, Pharmacia and Pfizer are also named in the suit, the Post-Disptach explains:

In 1997, Monsanto’s chemical business was spun off as Solutia. Three years later, the rest of Monsanto — its life sciences division — merged with Pharmacia. Then in 2002, the current incarnation of Monsanto, based in Creve Coeur, was spun off. A year later, Pharmacia merged with Pfizer.
