The U.S. Can’t Escape the Middle East

Almost 16 months ago, then-U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis initiated a course correction for the Pentagon. After 17 years of war in the Middle East, great power competition with Russia and China, not terrorism, would be the priority.

But this week, the White House ordered an aircraft carrier strike group operating in the Mediterranean Sea and bomber task force to move to the U.S. Central Command region, in a striking show of force designed to counter what acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan called “a credible threat” from Iran to attack U.S. forces. Days later, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo canceled a planned trip to Germany to make an unscheduled stop in Iraq to discuss the tensions with Tehran. Now, the United States is reportedly considering sending additional bomber aircraft and moving some Patriot missile batteries back to the region.

Breaking: Syrian Army captures strategic hilltop to cutoff militant supply route along Idlib-Hama axis

BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:00 P.M.) – The jihadist and Turkish-backed rebels launched a counter-offensive along the Idlib-Hama axis, today, after the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) kicked off their operation along the demilitarized zone.

However, their counter-offensive would be short lived, thanks in large part to the Syrian Arab Army’s artillery units and air force.

Following the failed counter-offensive by the militants, the Syrian Arab Army retook the initiative to capture the key hilltop of Tal Uthman near the town of Kafr Naboudeh.

THE COMPLETE MERCENARY: How Erik Prince Used the Rise of Trump to Make an Improbable Comeback

WHEN ERIK PRINCE arrived at the Four Seasons resort in the Seychelles in January 2017 for his now-famous meetings with a Russian banker and UAE ruler Mohammed bin Zayed, he was in the middle of an unexpected comeback. The election of Donald Trump had given the disgraced Blackwater founder a new opportunity to prove himself. After years of trying and failing to peddle a sweeping vision of mercenary warfare around the world, Erik Prince was back in the game.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Erik Prince is a very interesting character; but we need to ask; is this the face of the American military we want the world to see; mercs, with no real loyalty or care, about who they are hired to kill, as long as they get paid?!?

I would like to hope not.

I would very much like to suggest that President Trump establish a "Department of Peace", to find ways, other than wars, regime changes, and coups, to achieve the country's geopolitical goals without anyone firing a single shot.

The degree to which the practice of wars, informs and dictates American foreign policy, is utterly terrifying to me.

And to put it into perspective, there is no American teenager, aged 17 or 18, who has not seen that the US government appears to be, and has been, in a perpetual state of war, even the abysmally failing wars, like Afghanistan and Yemen.

Yes, I get it, peace through strength and commerce.

But these wars are dead-ending both financial and human capital, and as a government imminently pregnant with an exploding Federal debt, which is around $22 trillion dollars (that we know of), it would seem to make sense for the Federal Government to quit its addiction to wars, and perhaps, even go cold-turkey, should there be no real danger to Americans being caused in that war (like Yemen).

Jordan's King Sacks Intel Chief, Senior Officials Amid Plot Suspicions – Reports

Jordanian King Abdullah II fired several senior officials, including the general intelligence chief over the past week following reports of a plot to destabilise the kingdom.

The Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Qabas, citing anonymous sources, reported that several senior and influential Jordanian figures had conspired to hold a mass protest outside the royal palace in Amman to demonstrate a lack of public confidence in Jordanian Prime Minister Omar Razzaz and thereby create instability in the kingdom.

The Jordanian King replaced the director of the General Intelligence Department, General Adnan al-Jundi, who held one of the most influential positions in the country. The palace issued a statement stating that the king had decided to retire Jundi, replacing him with General Ahmed Husni, who has served in several senior intelligence posts.

Senate votes to uphold Trump veto on ending US support for Saudi-led war in Yemen

The US Senate has failed to override US President Donald Trump’s veto of a resolution which would have ended Washington’s military support for the Saudi Arabia-led coalition, which has been bombing Yemen for four years.

The vote to uphold the veto is a victory for the Trump administration which has said it will continue backing Riyadh in the military operation which has led to thousands of deaths and brought millions of Yemenis to the brink of famine.

The Senate passed the Yemen War Powers resolution in March with a vote of 54-46, but the Thursday vote fell short of the two-thirds majority (67) that was needed to override Trump’s veto and force a change in US policy.

Swedish Anti-Extremism Tsar Allows Returning ISIS Fighters Re-Entry As "Caring Citizens"

Authored by Jon Hall via FMShooter.com

According to officials in Stockholm, Swedish residents have nothing to fear from Islamic State fighters returning from the Middle East to live peaceful, crime-free lives in Sweden.

Christina Kiernan, Stockholm’s anti-violent extremism coordinator, claimed that jihadists who returned from Syria and Iraq were living “orderly lives” following public outcry regarding the government’s decision not to strip people who fought in radical Islamic terror organizations of their Swedish passports.

Kiernan said on a television interview this week:

The IS returnees we have talked to so far have no known current crime, they have a job and an orderly life to the extent that we do not have knowledge of activities that can in any way scare anyone…

The television interviewer fired back:

So they are returning from this type of business and becoming caring, well-behaved citizens?

Webmaster's Commentary:

Kiernan has just become a major accessory to the coming cultural suicide in Sweden, as we have seen in so so many other countries, where Sharia law rapidly, and rabidly, replaces the existing Laws of the Land.

Pompeo: Helping Saudis Attack Yemen Is In America’s Best Interests

With the Senate planning this week to “process” President Trump’s veto of the War Powers Act challenge to the Yemen War, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo took the reins to try to defend US involvement in Yemen as in America’s best interest.

Pompeo’s argument centered on the idea that the US was obliged to help Saudi Arabia defend itself from retaliatory fights, now that the Saudis had launched a war and provoked that retaliation.

On top of that poor argument for an obligation, Pompeo relied on what the administration seems to believe is the most compelling argument, even if it is wholly based on a lie. He argued that the whole war was Iran’s fault, and not intervening would make Iran happy.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Instead of Secretary of State, Pompeo is actually the US Government's Secretary For Fact-Free Churlish Propaganda or (SFFFCP, for short).

And this guy blames Iran for this senseless, horrific war, where everything the Saudis are doing are war crimes, which the US military and Executive Branches of the US have enabled?!? And no serious commenters on the situation have ever stated that a military victory was possible for the Saudis?!?

And this man was whore enough for the military industrial Complex, that he has lied to Congress about the real use of Saudi Purchased weapons, last September?!?
Pompeo lied to Congress about Yemen to protect arms sales

Congress; please be aware; he lied to you before, to let those weaons sales go through back in September; he is lying to you right now about the "reason" we must keep being complicit in Saudi war crimes in Yemen.

Where in the name of heaven, does Donald Trump find such rapacious bottom feeders, as Bolton and Pompeo?!?

The truth is, it's easy in DC.

Just look for those with a proven track record on their willingness to lie about any country's leadership, to cause the US to go to war against it for those resources, and to conquer other countries which are blessed with intense national resources, as is happening in the Middle East with Iran; in South America, with Venezuela; and in Africa, which also has an abundance of natural resources. The US (sometimes) gets what it wants, and insures that whatever those resources are, that they are only sold in American dollars.

Then, think about the money your government paid to unseat the legally elected President of Ukraine, Yanukovytch; that was 5 billion dollars, US, folks, in 2014 United States spent 5 billion for regime change in Ukraine

Now think about how much more the US government would spend to conquer Iran and/or Venezuela, if they thought they had the best chances for regime change in those countries?!? And how many more American service members will have to die, or be maimed for life, for a potential positive outcome for the US?!?

Venezuela ... has done absolutely nothing to us, and neither has Yemen; Iran makes noises about doing something, but must likely will not do anything against the United States, particularly with Putin advising President Hassan Rouhani on international affairs.

Yemen death toll to surpass 230,000 by end of 2019: UN report

By the end of 2019, fighting in Yemen will have claimed about 102,000 lives, according to new figures from the United Nations that indicate the war has killed far more people than previously reported.

A UN-commissioned report by University of Denver also revealed that more Yemenis were dying of hunger, disease and the lack of health clinics and other infrastructure than from fighting.

About 131,000 Yemenis will have died from these side effects of the conflict between the beginning in 2015 and the end of 2019, according to the 68-page study, called Assessing the Impact of War on Development in Yemen.

The combined death toll from fighting and disease is 233,000, or 0.8 percent of Yemen's 30 million-strong population.

New York Times apologizes again for 'offensive' Trump, Netanyahu cartoon that 'included anti-Semitic tropes'

View image on Twitter

New York Times Opinion

We apologize for the anti-Semitic cartoon we published. Here’s our statement.

"We are deeply sorry for the publication of an anti-Semitic political cartoon last Thursday in the print edition of The New York Times that circulates outside of the United States, and we are committed to making sure nothing like this happens again," the opinion section tweeted Sunday.

"Such imagery is always dangerous, and at a time when anti-Semitism is on the rise worldwide, it's all the more unacceptable," continued the apology, which was widely shared on Twitter.

Webmaster's Commentary:

To the editorial staff of the NYT:

Dear all; yes, I understand why you apologised.

But having said that, is there any place at your table, where one can objectively talk about what is really happening between the US and Israel, under President Trump's watch, where sheer logic could never be construed as being "anti-Semitic?!?

Fact: Israel is the largest recipient of US foreign aid.

US Foreign Aid to Israel

the article goes on to state:

This report provides an overview of U.S. foreign assistance to Israel. It includes a review of past
aid programs, data on annual assistance, and analysis of current issues. For general information
on Israel, see CRS Report RL33476, Israel: Background and U.S. Relations, by Jim Zanotti.
Israel is the largest cumulative recipient of U.S. foreign assistance since World War II. To date,
the United States has provided Israel $134.7 billion (current, or noninflation-adjusted, dollars) in
bilateral assistance and missile defense funding. Almost all U.S. bilateral aid to Israel is in the
form of military assistance, although in the past Israel also received significant economic
assistance.
At a signing ceremony at the State Department on September 14, 2016, representatives of the
U.S. and Israeli governments signed a new 10-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on
military aid covering FY2019 to FY2028. Under the terms of the MOU, the United States pledges
to provide $38 billion in military aid ($33 billion in Foreign Military Financing grants plus
$5 billion in missile defense appropriations) to Israel. This MOU replaces a previous $30 billion
10-year agreement, which runs through FY2018.
Israel is the first international operator of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, the Department of
Defense’s fifth-generation stealth aircraft, considered to be the most technologically advanced
fighter jet ever made. To date, Israel has purchased 50 F-35s in three separate contracts.

With all that money spent, one would think that Israel would be doing everything possible to keep relationships with its neighboring countries stable, and at least, show a little bit of gratitude in that manner to the US government.

Fact: Israel has a real difficulty with "getting along" with most of its neighbors, particularly if they have oil (like Iran), or water(as does Lebanon), and its politicians are consistently screaming at the US to "do something" about their allegedly impossible neighbors, before they "go it alone." (which will only happen when pigs discover they are aerodynamic).

Fact: when Sheldon Adelson gave President Trump all those millions to get elected Adelson reportedly watch the election with Trump, President Trump understood what the quid pro quo was; to declare Jerusalem the capital of Israel (which he did), and second, create a "Middle East Deal" which offered no "right of return" for the Palestinians. The first demand, Netanyahu got; and our current understanding is that Jared Kushner, Trump's son in law, is working on that "deal" for mid-East Peace.

Fact: were I living in Iran right now, I would be very nervous, as President Trump has declared "no waivers" would continue past 2 May for countries which had been buying Iranian oil, in order to attempt to destroy Iran's economy. This includes China, and all the other countries which may not pay attention to Trump's demand. We now have two US carriers in the Mediterranean Sea, allegedly to insure Russia "gets the message" of "no interference" 2 US Navy aircraft carriers are making a statement in the Mediterranean Sea.Color me very nervous about what lengths the US is willing to go, to make that happen.

Fact: if I lived in Syria right now, I would be more than a little bit nervous, because the White House and Pentagon have decided to leave troops here, and there is no definitive pullout schedule which has been released. US keeping +/- 200 troops in Syria.Thinking people have to ask, "Why?!? IS there going to be an attempted "de-cap strike" against Damascus, understanding that Russia's Putin has given Al Assad all the military "muscle power" it needed to have substantially, and pretty successfully, beaten back the (US Trained & funded) jihadis?!?

Fact: were I a Gazan Palestinian right now, I would be very nervous about the lengths Israel is willing to go, to achieve a complete exodus of the Palestinian people (to where, I cannot tell you, because neighboring countries are overflowing with refugees, and cannot take any more), and claim Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem, as solely Israeli.

As an American who cares about her country, I am very concerned about the dangerous territory to which the US/Israeli relationship is taking this country. Does it ever concern you, BTW, that the two Middle Eastern men by whom President Trump seems to be so thoroughly fascinated, are the two butchers in the Middle East, Prince bin Salman, the Butcher of Yemen, and Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, the Butcher of Gaza?!? And please don't tell me, that in this man's "heart of hearts", he hopes for a just and lasting peace between the Israelis and Palestinians; because with everything he has done, in his numerous terms as PM, he has done the polar opposite of attempting to create peace. He doesn't use the word "extermination" when talking about the Palestinians in Gaza, because he knows that the optics would be terrible; but some of his more rabid followers would have absolutely no problem with this.

I cannot foretell where these relationships is taking this country, but I can tell you this; something wicked this way comes.

And were I a betting woman, I would bet that Israel is pushing the US as hard as it thinks it can, to declare the devolution of the US's ongoing economic war in the region into a shooting war against all of its alleged existential enemies; we're talking about a war with Syria (which would, again, most likely include a war with Russia if not Russia and China); war against Iran (which will most likely, involve war with Russia and China)

To the Editors of the NYT, I have just expressed my fact-based opinion on what is going to happen here, and I am hoping that I am dead-wrong; but I have a very clear understanding of what Israel did to the USS Liberty, and then tried to "fake it" by wrongly accusing Egypt of the attack.

"False flag attacks" by both the Israeli and US military, are a common stock-in-trade they both use.

And if you have any members of your families serving the US militarily, please, as best you can, pray for them; because if what I see coming does come to pass, they -and their commanders, and the collective members of the US government - will need it. And I say this because, at this point in the the US's military history, they do not have the money, the troop strength, the manufacturing, or the weaponry to create a successful outcome to a war against either Russia and/or China.

America’s Way of War: Killing Civilians

From Afghanistan to Iraq, Syria and Yemen, the United States and its allies have been really good at one thing only: Killing civilians in wars without end.

This has been going on since 2001, starting from Afghanistan, stretching to Yemen and then all the way back to Afghanistan, where the United Nations has once again warned that the United States and its allied forces are killing more Afghan civilians than the Taliban and other armed groups do.

This has been largely the case in the first three months of this year. A new quarterly report from the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan shows that from January to the end of March.

It’s interesting to note that in response to the report, US forces spokesman in Afghanistan Colonel Dave Butler has said: "We reserve the right of self-defense of our forces. The best way to end the suffering of non-combatants is to end the fighting through an agreed-upon reduction in violence on all sides."

The thing is, the ongoing violence could be reduced to a great extent if all US and NATO forces actually leave the war-torn country.>>>

Senate to take up Trump's Yemen veto next week

The Senate is set to take up President Trump's veto of legislation cutting off U.S. support for the Saudi-led war in Yemen next week, though any override attempt is expected to fall short.

Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's (R-Ky.) office said Thursday that the chamber would "process the president’s veto message on the Yemen resolution by the end of the week."

Trump vetoed the measure earlier this month, the second veto of his presidency. The resolution requires him to withdraw any U.S. troops in or "affecting" Yemen within 30 days unless they are fighting al Qaeda.

Billions In African Gold Being Smuggled Through UAE By Crime Syndicates: Report

A bombshell investigative report by Reuters has blown open a hitherto under-reported massive black market trade which has seen billions of dollars worth of gold smuggled out of Africa and sold to Europe via "middle man" countries like the United Arab Emirates and others in the Middle East.

The investigation found the Middle East to be the illicit gold "gateway to markets in Europe, the United States and beyond" based on new analysis of customs data, showing tons of off-the-books non-taxed gold pouring out of countries like Ghana, Ivory Coast, Tanzania, Nigeria, and war-torn Libya and Sudan, with no official oversight by the states in which the gold is mined.

The numbers are staggering in terms of the newly revealed whopping unaccounted for increase in Middle East imports for the past decade and more:

We are witnessing a tsunami of Arab crises

A friend of mine asked me if I think that what is happening in Libya, Algeria and Sudan is a pure coincidence. No, I don’t.

While there is evidence that is almost irrefutable that a conspiracy has been hatched against the Arab world, I do not like to take the easy approach — conspiracy theories — in analysing the situation, which many researchers and writers rely on. I believe that it is important to take any matter being studied back to its basics in order to understand them before examining the results and consequences.

As such, the events in the three countries mentioned, and what happened in other Arab countries in the past, can be traced back to what we might call Arab weakness; it is like a disease searching for the weakest areas to infect the body. The same can be said for the Arab world generally, as it is easy to infiltrate it through its weakest points; in my opinion, these reflect the fragility of some regimes and the struggle for power therein.

Oil Shortage Crisis Might Force the Syrian State to Liberate East Euphrates

As French US envoy calls Israel ‘apartheid state,’ Trump’s Palestine deal looks all but doomed

US President Donald Trump’s “deal of the century,” aimed at resolving the decades-long conflict between Israel and Palestine, looks dead in the water, as speculation continues that the plan will be far more favorable to Israel.
Gérard Araud, France’s outgoing envoy to the US, dubbed Israel an “apartheid state” in a farewell interview with the Atlantic magazine on Friday and suggested that the secret plan is “very close to what the Israelis want” and 99 percent “doomed to fail.”

Still, Arab nations, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, are exerting “immense pressure” on the Palestinians to accept Trump’s deal, a senior Fatah official told Iran’s Press TV on Monday. Those countries are “using all means, including political and financial blackmail” to force Palestinians into agreeing with the deal “despite all the dangers it poses to the Palestinian cause.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, Aurad has this nailed perfectly; and no amount of money can possibly get the Palestinians to voluntarily give up what is left... of their homeland.

DO YOU REMEMBER THE OIL CRISIS AND “STAGFLATION” OF THE 1970S? IN MANY WAYS, 2019 IS STARTING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE 1973…

SOURCE: THE ECONOMIC COLLAPSE

The price of gasoline is rapidly rising, economic activity is slowing down, the Middle East appears to be on the brink of war, and Democrats are trying to find a way to remove a Republican president from office. In many ways, 2019 is starting to look a lot like 1973. For many Americans, the 1970s represent a rather depressing chapter in U.S. history that they would just like to forget, but the truth is that if we do not learn from history it is much more likely that we will repeat our mistakes. And without a doubt, right now a lot of things are starting to move in a very ominous direction.

“Stagflation” was a term that was made popular in the 1970s, and it occurs when there is a high rate of inflation but economic growth is declining or stagnant.

The U.S. hasn’t had a serious bout with stagflation in quite a while, but it appears that we may be moving in that direction.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I remember this, because I lived through it in Southern California, during the "odd/even" way of dispensing gas, which was by your car license plate tag number, if I remember correctly, and it was an absolute pain to live through.

US Decision on Iran's Oil Exports May Destroy Nuclear Deal

The European Union regrets the United States' decision to halt waivers on sanctions against importers of Iranian oil, which may undermine the success of the nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Spokesperson for EU Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Maja Kocijancic said on Tuesday.

"We regret yesterday's announcement by the US not to renew all waivers. This further risks undermining the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action… . We, as the European Union, will continue to abide by the JCPOA as long as Iran continues the full and effective implementation of its nuclear-related commitments," Kocijancic told reporters.

Iran has warned Europeans, as the main beneficiaries of the agreement with the Islamic republic, that the nuclear deal between Tehran and the world powers will be in danger if European countries fail to fulfill their pledge to ease the US pressures and allow the Islamic Republic to reap the economic benefits of the deal.

Politicizing Oil, Big US Mistake

Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zangeneh said the US had made a big mistake by politicizing the oil market, and vowed Tehran's maximum effort to break Washington's sanctions.

Addressing the Iranian parliament on Tuesday, Zangeneh elaborated on the US decision to end waivers on Iran oil sanctions and the latest status ruling the oil market, and said, “Today, in this aggressive economic war that the United States has launched against Iran, the Iranian nation, the oil industry is on the forefront of this outrageous offensive. We must all join hands to pass these grave conditions behind with the help of God.”

“The imagination to bring Iran’s oil exports to zero, with the help of God, will never be come true,” he said.

“The Veto” New Documentary Sheds Light On Western Propaganda Campaign Against Syria

By Brandon Turbeville

Ever since the beginning of the Syrian crisis in 2011, the Western mainstream media, along with its counterparts in the Gulf countries, have engaged in the most heinous acts of war propaganda seen in the modern world. Not content with the opportunity to twist facts and distort the realities on the ground, these mainstream corporate news engines have outright colluded in faking reports and concocting entire productions of propaganda for the purpose of convincing their audiences of the need to invade Syria or, at the very least, to support the terrorists “rebels,” armed, funded, and trained by the U.S., NATO, Israel, and the Gulf states.

Britain's role in the suffering of Yemen – squalid beyond belief

Britain’s unending boast that it stands as a beacon of human rights and justice is belied by the cruel plight inflicted on the people of Yemen.

If a special place in hell is reserved for a Saudi kleptocracy that wears its barbarism as a badge of honor rather than shame, Britain’s ignoble role in actively facilitating Riyadh’s murderous war in Yemen is surely deserving of the same.

Thinking about it the scope of the inhuman brutality that has been inflicted on the Yemeni people over the course of a conflict that began in 2015, it is near impossible to fathom the pristine hypocrisy of a British political establishment that is never done lecturing the world on matters great and small.

Arab foreign ministers are to meet on Sunday to discuss the latest developments in Palestine at the request of the Palestinian Authority, Al-Wattan Voice reported on Monday.

During his first meeting with his government on Monday, the recently appointed PA Prime Minister Mohammad Ishteya told his colleagues that President Mahmoud Abbas will attend the meeting to lead the discussion.

In the meantime, added Ishteya, Abbas is to discuss the issue of the financial safety network, which was approved at a previous Arab League meeting. The network was established in order to support the Palestinian Authority budget.

HAFTAR FORCES STALLED SOUTH OF TRIPOLI. GNA FIGHTERS SHOT DOWN LNA WARPLANE

By April 16, the Libyan National Army (LNA) advance on Tripoli has appeared to be dragged into a trench war on the approach to the southern gate of the city. Militias loyal to the Government of National Accord (GNA) have stopped the LNA advance in the area of Ain Zara and prevented LNA units from cutting off the Tripoli-Misrata highway heading along the coast. These GNA successes predetermined the tactical posture in the area.

Another important success was achieved by the GNA on April 14 when its forces shot down a MiG-21 jet of the LNA Air Force over Ain Zara with a MANPAD. The pilot ejected, but remains missing. The downed MiG-21 jet became a first confirmed and the second claimed downed jet since the start of the LNA advance on Tripoli on April 4. On April 10, the LNA announced that it had downed a L-39 jet of the GNA Air Force. However, there is sill no comprehensive evidence to confirm this.

Saudis Fly MPs Under House Arrest in Saudi Arabia Back to Yemen to Form New Parliament

Three months ago, MintPress News unveiled Saudi plans to hijack Yemen’s parliament. On Saturday, Saudi Arabia successfully carried out the plan when it forced members of Yemen’s House of Representatives to hold a council session in the eastern city of Sayun in Yemen’s Hadramout governorate.

Yemeni members of parliament who have been under house arrest in Saudi Arabia since 2015 were returned to Yemen on a private Saudi plane and received by Saudi officials at the Al-Rayyan airport in eastern Yemen. Local Yemeni media was barred from covering their arrival and Saudi state-run Al-Arabiya was the sole media outlet allowed to cover the event. It was held under heavy security with Saudi troops on patrol and was attended by ousted former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi and ambassadors from countries backing Saudi plans in Yemen.

White House ignores Yemen war foes' meeting request as bill nears Trump's desk

White House staff has stonewalled for more than a week a group of lawmakers asking for a meeting with President Trump in a bid to convince him to sign legislation ending the U.S. role in Yemen's civil war.

Despite an official veto recommendation from White House staff, Trump has continued to appear open-minded, saying Wednesday that the matter was "very serious" and that he would have more to say later.

Sponsors of the legislation believe Trump is willing to sign the bill, but is being told by his staff, led by national security adviser John Bolton, that he should not.

"I feel from some of his statements that he's genuinely conflicted," said Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., who signed a bipartisan letter seeking a meeting. "I think his advisers are at odds with where he is ... advisers in the administration have their own interests and may not be giving him the full picture."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mr. President, the US enabling of Saudi war crimes in Yemen, is barbaric, and should be stopped in its tracks.

And on this issue, I can assure you, that history is going to judge you very harshly on your having "doubled down" with the Saudis; and I would like to hope that someone you trust, perhaps, has mentioned to you that the only solution possible here... is not military, but political.

SECRET REPORT REVEALS SAUDI INCOMPETENCE AND WIDESPREAD USE OF U.S. WEAPONS IN YEMEN

SOURCE: THE INTERCEPT
SINCE THE BRUTAL murder of Saudi dissident and Washington Post contributor Jamal Khashoggi last October, Congress has increasingly pressured the Trump administration to stop backing the Saudi Arabia-led coalition fighting in Yemen and halt U.S. arms sales to Riyadh. In response, President Donald Trump has repeatedly said that if the U.S. does not sell weapons to the Saudis, they will turn to U.S. adversaries to supply their arsenals.

“I don’t like the concept of stopping an investment of $110 billion into the United States,” Trump told reporters in October, referring to a collection of intent letters signed with the Saudis in the early months of his presidency. “You know what they are going to do? They’re going to take that money and spend it in Russia or China or someplace else.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

This, unfortunately, is what happens when a country elects a Merchant of Death in Chief, who also happens to be the President of the US.

It is also unfortunate, that he has placed every citizen of this country, into the category of being a citizen of a government which commits war crimes, as has happened, and will continue to keep happening, in Afghanistan; Iraq; Libya; Somalia; and Yemen.

Saudi-Led Coalition Pounds Houthi Targets in Yemen's Capital - Reports

The Saudi-led coalition has been engaged in the civil war in Yemen since March 2015, when it started to carry out airstrikes against the Houthi armed rebels at the request of Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.

The Ekhbariya TV said early on Wednesday, cited by Reuters, that the Saudi-led coalition struck Houthi targets in Sanna. However, the broadcaster gave no further details. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

On Sunday, the Saudi-led coalition launched airstrikes in the Yemeni capital and hit a warehouse near a school, killing at least 13 children and injuring hundreds of others.

Netanyahu's traditional partners set to join the new coalition

A right wing and religious coalition gives Netanyahu his victory despite Likud tying with The Blue and White party in seats

While the final vote count is not expected before late Thursday, Benjamin Netanyahu appears to have a clear path to his 5th term as Prime Minister.

With a ten seat lead Netanyahu's coalition will rely on a stronger ultra-orthodox block consisting of 16 seats, divided equally between Shas and the United Torah Judaism Party.

Netanyahu will also rely on his partners to the right: The Union of Right Wing Parties, with six 6 seats so far and Moshe Kahlon's Kulanu which managed to scrape by the minimum votes needed to win 4 seats.

Avigdor Leiberman's Israel Beiteinu Party is also expected to join the new coalition>>>

EUROPE EMBRACES CHINA’S BELT AND ROAD INITIATIVE

The multipolar transformation that is occurring across the Eurasian continent confirms the industrial and diplomatic cooperation between China and the European continent in spite of strong opposition from the United States.

Xi Jinping’s visit to Europe confirms what many of us have been writing about over the past few months and years, namely, the reality of an ongoing global transformation of a world dominated by the United States to a pluralistic one composed of different powers collectively shaping a multipolar world.

UN Official Calls for Probe of Deadly ‘Explosion’ in Yemeni Capital

After over four years of Saudi airstrikes killing enormous numbers of citizens across northern Yemen, what appears to have been a relatively straightforward incident in the capital of Sanaa this weekend hardly seemed surprising.

But the UN humanitarian coordinator is calling for an investigation into the attack, in which a warehouse “explosion” killed 11 civilians, including many children. This is because the Saudis are denying it was a Saudi airstrike, the most rational explanation for what happened.

Instead, what happened is being treated as some mysterious explosion out of nowhere, and while it isn’t uncommon for the Saudis to outright deny incidents they wee responsible for, or even suggesting some other faction that doesn’t have an air force was somehow responsible for an airstrike, it is uncommon for an incident of 11 killed to get this sort of attention anyhow.

The One Jewish State Solution

"There is obviously a big difference between the one-state call that has been pushed by Palestinian solidarity activists and Netanyahu’s politics of annexation. While Palestinian rights advocates are referring to one democratic state, Netanyahu is not committed to democracy at all. He is solely faithful to the Jewish population and what he offers in practice is a “One Jewish State Solution”. After all, Israel defines itself as “the Jewish State” and it is there to serve one people while denying others their most elementary rights.

"Israel, as we know, is not a state of its citizens; it is a state of its Jewish citizens. By the time Israel comes to term with its sin and transcends into a state of its citizens regardless of their race, ethnicity or religious belief, it will be renamed. It may as well be called Palestine...">>

Iraqi Sources: Over 10,000 US Forces Deployed in Al-Anbar

The Arabic-language al-Ma'alomeh news website quoted the head of Badr Organization's office in al-Anbar province as saying that the number of US forces deployed in Ein al-Assad and al-Habaniyeh bases has increased to 10,000, adding that they have been supplied with the state-of-the-art weapons and military equipment.

The official said that the two bases also host the US marines who have been transferred recently from Syria to the region, noting that 90% of the US soldiers in Iraq are combat forces and are not considered as military advisors.

Relevant reports said last month that the American forces had established two military bases in al-Anbar province on Iraq's international road close to the borders with Syria and Jordan as political groups and politicians are trying to expel the US military troops from their country.

Countries arming Saudi Arabia, partners in crimes against Yemenis: Iran

Iran has strongly condemned the latest deadly airstrikes by Saudi warplanes in Yemen that killed more than a dozen civilians, most of them schoolchildren, saying countries that are arming the aggressors are complicit in the crimes.

"Countries that have caused the humanitarian catastrophe in Yemen by providing arms to the aggressors are accomplices in these crimes and must be held accountable for their support," Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Monday.

He criticized the international community for remaining silent and indifferent to the atrocities committed by the Saudi-led coalition in its military campaign against Yemen and expressed sympathy with the families of victims.

The Iranian spokesperson called on the United Nations and countries involved in the Yemeni crisis to ramp up their efforts in order to put an immediate end to the attacks and adopt necessary measures to protect civilians, particularly women and children.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Iranian Foreign Minister Qassemi, I agree entirely with your position on this.

The assassination of children, is tantamount to the destruction of a country's rightful future, bit by bit; because all of today's kids will grow up to take their rightful place in the world in the next couple of decades.

There would be no earthly reason for you to know who I am, but I would like to share this with you; my husband and Mike are both peace activists, very concerned that of late, this country seems to believe that the only way to resolve its geopolitical disputes, is the invocation, and execution, of war.

Trump's Neocons See Erdogan As Their Ticket To A Region-Wide MidEast War

Authored by Mike Whitney via The Unz Review,

Turkish troops and armored units are massed along Turkey’s southern border awaiting orders to invade northern Syria. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wants to clear a ten mile-deep swath of land east of the Euphrates River in order to remove terrorist-linked militants (YPG) currently occupying the territory. The proposed offensive would put US Special Forces in the line of fire which significantly increases the likelihood of US casualties. If American troops are killed or wounded by the Turkish operation, Washington will respond in force leading to a potentially catastrophic face-off between the two NATO allies. The possibility of a violent clash between Turkey and the United States has never been greater than it is today.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder, in terms of the neocons, if plans are already in play for a "false flag" here, to be blamed on Turkey, as the US "provocation/justification" for an attack against it.

Dicey in the extreme?? But possible, as a way of distracting American voters who are fed up with Russiagate; stagnating salaries; and the horrific hardening of political lines in this country where, to some people, beating up someone who disagrees with you is a perfectly rational thing to do?!?

THE MANAGEMENT OF SAVAGERY: PRO-WAR LOBBYISTS PUSH TO BAN BOOK EXPOSING REGIME CHANGE WARS

The Syrian American Council and a collection of pro-war lobbyists have led an intimidation campaign aimed at bullying a major Washington-based bookstore, Politics and Prose, into canceling award-winning journalist and author Max Blumenthal’s launch event for his new book The Management of Savagery.

And it appears to have worked. Politics and Prose announced that it would “postpone” the event, citing “concerns” over the event’s “format, substance, … [and] security” in a tweet. Lawmakers Urge Trump Not to Veto Yemen War Powers Challenge

Letter says Trump has opportunity to restore cooperation with Congress.

A bipartisan group of lawmakers from both the Senate and the House have issued a letter to President Trump urging him not to veto the SJ Res 7 War Powers Act challenge to the Yemen War. The resolution passed the Senate last month, and the House on Thursday.

The War Powers Act requires the president to get the approval of Congress for any overseas military conflicts, and allows Congress to demand a withdrawal form those nations if the operation is unauthorized. The Yemen War was never authorized by Congress.

President Trump has threatened to veto the resolution, and the letter urges him not to, arguing that he has an historic opportunity to set a precedent for cooperation with Congress by complying with the law and ending an unconstitutional war that was launched under President Obama.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I absolutely agree with these bipartisan members of Congress; unfortunately, because there is still so much "bromance and pull" between Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, also know in Yemen as "The Butcher of Yemen", and President Trump, I would be amazingly surprised if he did not veto.

But what has happened in Yemen, for the last 3 years, is a level of butchery and genocide against the Yemeni people, that it definitely comes up to the standar of US-abetted Saudi war crimes in Yemen.

I actually never wanted to be a citizen of a country which commits war crimes; and here I am, nearly 70, and watching the madness of the last several administrations, from Bush II to President Trump, operating very overtly; with impunity; and with no question as to whether these actions are morally right, or morally repugnant.

The steps of the pattern emerge very clearly, if you are looking for them.

First, we see demonizations of countries with the resources the US wants; then the regime change of demonized leadership happens; the then, there is an "anointing " of a US-centric leader or leaders; and finally, the assignment of US- centric companies to expropriate those resources; and sell them only for American dollars.

When Karl Marx made the observation that all wars are economic in their origins, the guy was absolutely correct.

And again, I find it very interesting, that President Trump's BBFs in the Middle East, are the Butcher of Gaza, Israel's Bibi Netanyahu, and Crown Prince bin Salman, the Butcher of Yemen.

Congress votes to withdraw US support from Saudi-led Yemen war

The US House of Representatives has voted in favor of ending US involvement in the war in Yemen, but the bill is expected to be vetoed by President Donald Trump as the White House cites “serious constitutional concerns.”

The House voted 247-175 in favor of the resolution to direct Trump to end US military involvement in the war within 30 days and to end support for the Saudi-led coalition that it has been backing.

Congress is “no longer going to ignore its constitutional obligations when it comes to foreign policy,” said Democratic Rep. Eliot Engel, who chairs the House Foreign Affairs Committee, adding that the war in Yemen, now in its fifth year, “demands moral leadership.”

House Votes to End US Military Involvement in Yemen War

After voting down a Republican motion to recommit, the House of Representatives voted on Thursday to pass S.J. Res 7, the Senate version of the War Powers Act challenge to US involvement in the war in Yemen. The vote was 247-175-1.

This Senate passed this resolution in March, and sends the resolution to President Trump, who has threatened to veto it. So far it appears unlikely that Congress will be able to override such a veto.

Both House votes on Yemen ran heavily along party lines. The War Powers Act requires any US war to be approved by Congress, and the resolution notes that Congress never authorized any such war in Yemen.

The administration has argued that the four years of war in Yemen technically don’t count under the War Powers Act, sometimes overtly lying about the extent of US involvement in Yemen, and other times arguing that support fo the Saudi-led war is obligated because of arms sales to them.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Sorry, President Trump, but, to paraphrase Gertrude Stein: "a war is a war is a war", and Congress was left with no choice, until this legislation was passed.

President Trump will, predictably, veto this; after all, he can't let one of his BFFs in the Middle East, The Butcher of Yemen, down, both in terms of providing US military assistance and "guidance" to Saudi mercs and military, and the weapons they are gobbling up, to use to create a genocide in Yemen.

I was wrong about President Trump, in a number of significant ways, as were others who nominally supported his candidacy over that of Hillary Clinton's; but perhaps, one of the most depressing was discovering that his presidency was going to "gift" the world with his presence as "America's Merchant of Death in Chief."

I think history will judge him very harshly on that issue.

US Conducts a Flurry of Airstrikes Against Southern Yemen

According to US Central Command, at least six airstrikes were carried out by US forces over the past week in Yemen. The strikes were intended to targeted the local al-Qaeda affiliate in al-Bayda Province.

As usual, Centcom offered no casualty data or any details of who was hit, or who was even the intended target. Bayda is known as a major haven for al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) but strikes into the province aren’t necessarily productive to that US air war.

The reason Centcom discussed the matter at all seems to have been to clarify that this was part of an anti-al-Qaeda campaign, and not in any way related to the Saudi invasion of Yemen. Despite that, Centcom says that the operation was coordinated with the Saudi-backed government.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mr. President, I am urging you, please; stop the madness of US militarily-enabled Saudi war crimes in Yemen.

I find it very distressing, sir, that 2 of your BFFs in the Middle East, are the Butcher of Yemen (Prince Mohammed bin Salman) and the Butcher of Gaza (Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu.

This is not something that can EVER be won militarily, but it has to be ended with diplomacy.

And yes, I know that may not be your strong suite; but sir, there have been far too many non-coms, (women, children, infants, and the medically fragile elderly)have been assassinated, or maimed for life.

My ultimate concern here, although the weapons companies have profited immensely from these wars, that history will not remember you as the Merchant of Death in Chief, for your deciding to send more US military assets, and sell more bombs to the Saudis, into Yemen.

Please, think about it, sir.

Exclusive: Yemeni child soldiers recruited by Saudi-UAE coalition

Al Jazeera has obtained exclusive footage that proves the presence of child soldiers in the recruitment camps of the Saudi-UAE-led coalition fighting in Yemen.

The children, desperately poor, are being recruited to fight along the Saudi border to defend it from the Houthis, a rebel group that overran the capital, Sanaa, and large swaths of Yemen's northwest in 2014.

In 2015, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) formed a coalition to overthrow the Houthis - plunging Yemen into a ruinous war - supported by forces loyal to the country's internationally recognised government.

The conflict has created the world's worst humanitarian crisis, pushing Yemen to the brink of famine and leaving about 80 percent of its population - 24 million people - in need of humanitarian assistance.

FORMER US INTELLIGENCE AGENCY HACKERS HELPED UAE SPY ON AL JAZEERA CHAIRMAN AND OTHER JOURNALISTS

A group of American hackers who once worked for United States intelligence agencies helped the United Arab Emirates spy on a BBC host, the chairman of Al Jazeera and other prominent Arab media figures during a tense 2017 confrontation pitting the UAE and its allies against Qatar, a Reuters investigation has found.

A Reuters investigation in January revealed Project Raven's existence and inner workings, including the fact that it surveilled a British activist and several unnamed US journalists.

“Every War Is a War Against Children”

At 9:30 in the morning of March 26, the entrance to a rural hospital in northwest Yemen, supported by Save the Children, was teeming as patients waited to be seen and employees arrived at work. Suddenly, missiles from an airstrike hit the hospital, killing seven people, four of them children.

Jason Lee of Save the Children, told The New York Times that the Saudi-led coalition, now in its fifth year of waging war in Yemen, knew the coordinates of the hospital and should have been able to avoid the strike. He called what happened “a gross violation of humanitarian law.”

The day before, Save the Children reported that air raids carried out by the Saudi-led coalition have killed at least 226 Yemeni children and injured 217 more in just the last twelve months. “Of these children,” the report noted, “210 were inside or close to a house when their lives were torn apart by bombs that had been sold to the coalition by foreign governments.”

Many US Troops Will Stay in Syria, Officials Confirm

nitially announced as a total withdrawal from Syria by President Trump, the administration has backpedaled repeatedly, to the point where a large portion of US forces will be remaining on the ground in Syria, and about 1,000 or the current 2,000 are liable to spend the bulk of 2019 in Syria.

Officials say the current plan, such as it is, would be to draw down to about 1,000 by early May, and then “pause” for about six months. Then, there would be a consideration of withdrawing some more troops, perhaps getting down to 400.

This is why there were reports the US intends to keep 1,000 troops in Syria, because they do, and why the administration’s objections, and arguments that the plan is still 400, is highly misleading, as that’s now a best-case scenario.

Webmaster's Commentary:

But what, please, is supposed to happen after this "pause"?!?

Is something really nasty supposed to happen in November of this year, as this will be the time the "pause" is supposed to end?!?

But there is something upon the wind here, which is neither peaceful, nor of the will of the Syrian people; something wicked this way comes in Syria, and I think that is a pretty reasonable statement at this time.

‘US decision on Golan Heights is highway to war’: Russian Duma speaker

The US decision to recognize the Golan Heights as Israel's territory was taken bypassing the UN Security Council and ignoring the UN dialogue on the issue, said Vyacheslav Volodin, the speaker of Russia’s Lower House.

“All members of the international community should voice their stand on the matter,” he said during the meeting with Lebanese President Michel Aoun.

Such a development could lead to a situation where “everyone is fighting each other,” he stressed. “The rule of force would dominate. This is a highway to war.”

Yemen Civil War Doomed to Rage On After Four Years of Conflict - Think Tank

The civil war in Yemen, where Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirate (UAE) air forces bomb civilian targets, will continue to rage on with no end in sight as it enters its fifth year, Institute for Gulf Affairs Founder and Director, Professor Ali al-Ahmed told Sputnik.

"No it won’t stop", al-Ahmed said on Tuesday. "Both the English-dominated UK [United Kingdom] government and the United States are using this war to sell more bombs. There is no real goal here but to increase the Arab divide".

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is not a civil war. This is the US trying to reimpose the puppet rule the Yemenites threw off.

Arab League: Countries that move embassies to Jerusalem risk relations with Arab world

Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit warned countries against moving their embassies to the occupied city of Jerusalem, saying they risk their relations with the Arab world.

The official’s spokesperson, Ambassador Mahmoud Afifi, said: “Countries that wish to please the United States and Israel by announcing the transfer of their embassies to Jerusalem are involved in a serious violation of international law which considers Jerusalem territory occupied in 1967.”

“The embassies’ transfer is illegal and does not change this situation, and does not earn the occupation any legal status,” he added.

Report: Saudi Airstrikes Kill at Least 50 Houthis in Yemen’s Maarib Province

According to the Saudi-backed Yemeni government, a series of Saudi-led airstrikes targeted the Maarib Province on Monday, killing at least 50 members of the Shi’ite Houthi movement.

The attacks centered on Serwah District, the last district in oil-rich Maarib that is under the control of the Houthis. It’s unclear who the targeted Houthis were, and there is no report of substantial fighting in Maarib recently.

This once again reflects the general Saudi military strategy in Yemen, which is to fall back heavily on an air war. Using airstrikes anywhere and everywhere has often meant a substantial increase in civilian casualties.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I wonder if Saudi citizens are "entertained" with a "body count" in Yemen on their daily news, stating how many Yemenis have been massacred in this bloody genocide; in fact, I am rather amazed that the Butcher of Yemen (aka Prince Bin Salman), has not decided to carpet bomb the place and "get it over with."

But in light of the futility of the last 4 years of fighting (during which the US military has aided and abetted Saudi war crimes in Yemen), it will most probably be his next option.

It is an unhappy realization, but the people, and countries with the money to spend, generally murder who they want, with impunity, and get away with it; Saudi Arabia, the Unhinged, Surveilled state of America, and Israel, all fall into those ranks.

Gulf states reject Washington’s decision on Golan Heights

Four Gulf Arab states – all regional allies of Washington that host American troops – on Tuesday rejected a US decision to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights. Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait criticized the move by President Donald Trump to recognize Israel’s 1981 annexation, and said the territory was occupied Arab land. The decision “will have significant negative effects on the peace process in the Middle East and the security and stability of the region,” a statement released by Saudi Arabia’s state news agency SPA said.

Trump’s Golan green light paves way to Israel’s annexation of West Bank

Jonathan Cooke says US recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the stolen Syrian Golan Heights “will prove a boon for the Israeli right, which has been clamouring to annex vast areas of the West Bank and thereby drive a final nail into the coffin of the two-state solution”.>>

Netanyahu is not the disease, he is a symptom

"...there are those who think that after the holocaust, they are permitted to do anything. There are those who believe that Israel is tops in the world in every field, that international law doesn’t apply to it, and that no one can tell it what to do. There are those who think Israelis are victims – always victims, the only victims – and that the whole world is against us. There are those who are convinced that Israel is allowed to do anything, simply because it can." >>

Oman allows US military to use its airports, ports

Oman has signed an agreement with the United States that would allow American ships and warplanes to take advantage of its ports and airports, according to officials. The “framework agreement” is aimed at bolstering “Omani-American military relations,” Oman news agency said on Sunday. The US forces will take advantage from the facilities offered at some of the sultanate’s ports and airports “during visits of the US military vessels and aircrafts, particularly in the port of Duqm,” the statement said.

Pentagon fails to deliver US strategy on Yemen

The Donald Trump administration has missed another congressional deadline to lay out the US strategy in Yemen, Al-Monitor has learned.

The US strategy in the four-year conflict has never been publicly articulated even as the Barack Obama and Trump administrations provided refueling and intelligence support. A reporting requirement was set out in last year’s defense authorization bill, which called on the Pentagon to detail specific US diplomatic and national security objectives and the costs of American involvement, including the controversial refueling mission terminated in November.

“The Department of Defense is working with Congress to provide the report," Pentagon spokesperson Rebecca Rebarich told Al-Monitor.

UK’s secret war: British commandos wounded in Yemen

A number of elite British commandos have sustained injuries in direct gunfights with Yemeni forces as part of what appears to be a secretive UK military campaign in Yemen, a new report says, adding a major twist to London’s involvement in Saudi Arabia’s deadly war against its impoverished southern neighbor.

The Mail on Sunday said it can reveal that at least five members of the UK’s Special Boat Service (SBS) troops had suffered gunshot injuries in fierce clashes with members of the Houthi Ansarullah movement, who have been repelling the Saudi-led military invasion since March 2015.

The SBS personnel received treatment for leg and arm wounds in Yemen’s northern Sa’ada province, where the report said around 30 elite British forces had been based.

The injured soldiers had been taken back to the UK to recover, the report added.

16 Years Later, How the Press That Sold the Iraq War Got Away With It

The myths had enormous utility to the working press, whose gargantuan errors have been re-cast as honest mistakes of judgment. A lot of the people who made those mistakes are still occupying prominent positions, their credibility undamaged thanks to a new legend best articulated by New Yorker editor David Remnick, who later scoffed, “Nobody got that story completely right.”

Nobody except the record number of people who marched against the war on February 15, 2003 — conservative estimates placed it between six and ten million worldwide (I marched in D.C.). Every one of those people was way ahead of Remnick.
