Rape And Abuse of Japanese Women By American Soldiers During WW2

He reports the incident at a village in Motobu peninsula where GIs landed and found only women, children and old folks there. What followed was abominable. There was a hunt in broad daylight for Japanese women who were ravaged mercilessly.

Japan suspends sale of Canadian wheat over discovery of Monsanto-made GMO

The Japanese Agriculture Ministry suspended its tender and sale of wheat from Canada on Friday. This comes as grain containing a genetically-modified trait was discovered last summer in Canada’s Alberta province.

“We are suspending the tender and sale of Canadian wheat until we confirm that the Canadian wheat that Japan buys contains no GMO,” an official at the Japanese farm ministry said. Japan was the top buyer of Canadian wheat until the mid-2000s, importing millions of tons.

According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), the wheat discovered near a rural road in Alberta underwent herbicide spraying and was not approved for commercial use. It contained a genetically-modified trait developed by Monsanto to withstand the weed-killer Roundup, the CFIA said on Thursday.

Japanese Probe Photographs Target Asteroid Ryugu for Sample-Return Mission

A Japanese asteroid-sampling spacecraft has its target in sight.

The Hayabusa2 probe has photographed Ryugu, the space rock it's scheduled to start orbiting late this month.

One newly released image, which was captured on Sunday (June 10) by Hayabusa2's Optical Navigation Camera-Telescopic (ONC-T), shows the 3,000-foot-wide (900 meters) Ryugu shining like a star against the blackness of space. [Photos: Japan's Hayabusa2 Asteroid Mission in Pictures]

Another Sunday ONC-T shot, which featured a much shorter exposure time (0.09 seconds versus 178 seconds), suggests that the asteroid is not significantly elongated, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) officials said.

US Firestorming of Tokyo Rivaled the Hiroshima Bombing

In the early hours of 10 March 1945, as America’s heavy aircraft dropped over 1,600 tons of bombs on Tokyo, a firestorm larger and hotter than ever before was brewing. During the firebombings of Dresden and Hamburg, temperatures reached 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit, but in Tokyo it soared to a blinding 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit.

Such was the heat unleashed by US bombers over the Japanese capital, that civilians in their air raid shelters were beginning to suffocate. Rather than be overwhelmed, they fled into the streets, becoming glued to the melting asphalt under their feet. Those now stuck in the roads or pavements were helpless, many of whom were heavily charred by the rapidly growing fires.

US demands Japan reduce its plutonium stockpiles

The U.S. has called on Japan to reduce its high levels of stockpiled plutonium, a move that comes as the Trump administration seeks to convince North Korea to abandon its nuclear weapons, Nikkei has learned.

The request was made by the U.S. Department of State and National Security Council ahead of next month's extension of a bilateral nuclear cooperation agreement, according to people familiar with the matter.

Japan has about 47 tons of the radioactive element -- enough to produce around 6,000 nuclear warheads. Foreign and domestic critics have pointed to these reserves as a ready source of bomb-making material should Japan choose to become a nuclear weapons state.

Plutonium production is banned in principle, but energy-poor Japan has been allowed to extract the material from spent nuclear fuel rods under the bilateral pact.

Japan to dispatch senior diplomat Kenji Kanasugi to Singapore for U.S.-North Korea summit

Tokyo will dispatch a senior diplomat to Singapore to collect information on the planned summit next month between the United States and North Korea, Japanese government sources said.

Japan aims to use the momentum generated by their improving ties to help resolve the long-standing abduction issue.

The vexing issue involving Japanese kidnapped by Pyongyang in the 1970s and 1980s has prevented the two countries from formally establishing diplomatic ties.
