Unprecedented: US, Russians, Israelis to Meet in Jerusalem Later This Month. Is Iran Screwed?

The rocky partnership between Russia and Iran in the Syrian conflict is entering a turbulent period. The unprecedented US-Russia-Israel security summit due to take place in Jerusalem next month has no other explanation.

A tersely worded White House statement on May 29 said that the summit, which will be attended by the national security advisors of the US and Russia — John Bolton and Nikolai Patrushev — will discuss regional security issues. The Israeli media expect that the focus will be on Syria — Iran and “other destabilising actors”.

US approved transfer of nuclear expertise to Riyadh after Khashoggi murder - Approvals allow US companies to discuss and work on nuclear-related projects in the Gulf kingdom

The Donald Trump administration issued two authorisations for the transfer of technical "nuclear expertise" to Saudi Arabia after the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi late last year, US Senator Tim Kaine has revealed.

Kaine, a Democrat from Virginia, where Khashoggi resided, called the decision "shocking" - as it came amid global outrage over the Saudi journalist's gruesome murder on 2 October.

The two approvals were issued on 18 October - only 16 days after Khashoggi was killed - and on 18 February, respectively.

Known as "Part 810 authorisations", they allow US companies to discuss and work on nuclear-related projects in the Gulf kingdom.

"I have serious questions about whether any decisions on nuclear transfers were made based on the Trump family's financial ties rather than the interests of the American people," Kaine said in a statement on Tuesday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder; since this permission came down just two weeks after the Kashoggi assassination, did President Trump know this was going down before it happened?!?

I am sorry to suggest, but have to state, that this... is the "opening of Pandora's Box", by the US government; and I suspect that it will rue the day when it happened, and Saudi Arabia has an impressive nuclear arsenal.

Against what country in the region Saudi Arabia will first attempt to use these weapons?!? Color Iran as the most likely recipient of the brutal damage from a nuclear bombing.

So what will Iran ultimately do, faced with this predicament?!? Develop nuclear bombs of their own, and I would likely suggest, this could happen very quickly, if they approached Pakistan for their nuclear technology.

Along With Economic and Humanitarian Wars, the US Wages a Scientific War Against Iran

Science diplomacy has long been recognized as one of the most powerful reconciliation tools and has a proven track record in building bridges and helping pave the way for cooperation on broader issues, especially between politically opposed countries. Over the past few decades, successive American administrations, along with experts and scientists, including those at the National Academies, have traditionally encouraged greater scientific exchange and collaboration.

In 1961 John F. Kennedy established a science cooperation agreement with Japan, following appeals to repair the broken dialogue between the two countries’ intellectual communities after World War II. That agreement helped round out a tenuous relationship at the time, rooted only in security concerns. In the 1970s, US diplomats took several science initiatives during their talks with China, and when official diplomatic ties were established in 1979, science played a big role in the shaping of renewed efforts.

US strategic bomber & aircraft carrier drill ‘strike operations’ on Iran’s doorstep (PHOTOS)

Multiple US Air Force aircraft, including a B-52 strategic bomber, have joined the USS Abraham Lincoln in the Arabian Sea for a ‘simulated strike operations’ exercise to prepare to take on Iran “when called upon.”
The drills witnessed F/A-18 Super Hornets, MH-60 Sea Hawk helicopters, and E-2D Growlers from the USS Abraham Lincoln mastering joint maneuvers to improve their “operational tactics in several warfare areas,” US Naval Forces Central Command said on Sunday. Among other “joint training evolutions,” the US Air Force participated in “strike coordination and reconnaissance exercises.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder just what forces in the White House, or Pentagon, have ordered this "picador" maneuver, to get the Iranian military to engage?!?

One has to wonder if those planning such actions are DC's "Gruesome
Two-some", Bolton and Pompeo, who have never seen a military conflict, potentially causing thousands of Americans to die, or be maimed for life, that they didn't love.

Since President Trump's outsourcing his Middle Eastern foreign policy to Israel, things in the region have gone from bad to worse.

And we have a companion piece, which bears both notice, and scrutiny:

Trump says there is ‘always a chance’ of war with Iran

Mr. President, this intellectual whiplash is not playing out well, in the heartland.

And if you don't believe that the policy makers in Iran have this behaviour well and truly pegged, you are getting truly lousy advice from those around you.

So, Mr. President, a word, please: you cannot revoke your responsibility here as Commander in Chief; because if you let Pompeo, Bolton, and Netanyahu drive American foreign policy in this region, I would almost predict that the US will be embroiled in either a regional war, or a world war by the end of this year.

‘Americans are war-weary, while Iran was never a threat to us’ – Virginia State senator to RT

US citizens are weary of endless wars, Virginia State Senator Richard Black believes. He warned President Donald Trump against dragging the country into another one with Iran, and blamed John Bolton for being the top warmonger.

As tensions between Tehran and Washington continue to soar, Senator Black has addressed the US president in a letter, warning against going into an all-out war with Iran. He squarely put the blame for the ongoing standoff on National Security Advisor John Bolton, and urged Trump to prevent the official from “usurping” his own role.

War and talks don't go together: Iran's foreign minister

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has lashed out at US “economic terrorism” against the "innocent" Iranian people, saying war and talks will never go together.

On his official Twitter page on Monday, Zarif posted a video showing a "little boy whose heartbroken mother can't get him prosthetic legs as he grows" and emphasized that innocent civilians are being targeted by sanctions and economic terrorism applied to Iran by the United States.

Israel’s Mossad Behind Allegations Iran Sabotaged Oil Tankers

Claims of sabotage against a handful of oil tankers off the coast of the United Arab Emirates, and subsequent claims from US hawks that Iran was behind it, originated with the Israeli Mossad, and the US is planning to take Israeli allegations to the UN Security Council.

Mossad said that Israel had managed the attacks without injuring anyone on board any of the ships, calling it a “pretty impressive commando operation.” This does stand in contrast to some US officials claiming it was Iranian sea mines behind the attacks, claims for which no good evidence exists.

This isn’t the first Israeli involvement in the ever-escalating narrative that threatens to march the US into war with Iran. Indeed, the original claims Iran was going to attack US forces in the region, potentially in Iraq, were themselves originally created by Mossad.

Pentagon’s Phony Iran ‘Evidence’: New Rationale for US Intervention?

Last week a senior Pentagon official accused Iran of having sabotaged four oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman on May 12 and of firing a rocket into Baghdad’s Green Zone on May 19. Iran executed these events, he said, either directly or through regional “proxies.”

But instead of creating sensational headlines, the briefing by Vice Adm. Michael Gilday, the director of the Joint Staff, was a flop, because it was clear to reporters covering it that he could not cite a single fact to back it up.

The story got only the most cursory coverage in major news outlets, all of which buried Gilday’s accusation deep in stories about the announced deployment of 1,500 more U.S. troops to the Middle East. Relatively few readers would even have noticed Gilday’s inflammatory claims.

The Iran Hawks’ Creepy Smear Campaign

There has been a nasty ongoing smear campaign directed against Iranian and Iranian-American journalists, academics, and activists because they have criticized administration policy and because they don’t echo hawkish talking points on Iran. It recently came to light that part of this campaign was receiving U.S. government funding that was supposed to be used to combat propaganda from foreign governments. Thanks to public exposure and pressure on the State Department, that funding has been suspended:

The View From Tehran: America’s Sordid History of Meddling in Iran

No war yet! That’s the good news…for now. A few weeks have passed since unhinged National Security Advisor John Bolton – who never saw a regime he didn’t want to change – reportedly ordered the Pentagon to update plans to send 120,000 additional troops into the Persian Gulf. All this preparation and the inherent threat to strike Iran was ostensibly based on vague and unsubstantiated intelligence that Tehran had planned attacks on U.S. troops in the region. Murky and secretive intelligence, preemptive war plans, and unrepentant neocons sowing fear within the American populace. We’ve all seen this movie before, in Iraq, just sixteen years ago, and it didn’t end well. US troops are still there and may be so indefinitely.

Alleged strike shows Israel is chasing Iranians deep into Syrian desert

The attack on the T-4 airbase in northern Syria at around dawn on Monday, attributable to Israel, is the third on Syrian soil within a week. In the two previous cases, Israel was reacting to fire against it. This time, according to foreign media, the target was Iranian interests, reports Haaretz.

As Haaretz reported in February, this year Iran changed some of the characteristics of its activity in Syria.

On the backdrop of the persisting Israeli attacks, and the dissatisfaction with Russia and Bashar al-Assad’s regime, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps moved its main activity from the Damascus international airport to a base more distant from Syria’s centre – T4, which is next to Homs. The Iranians have operated from that base before, and Israel bombed it on a number of occasions in 2018.

For the US and Israel, Iran Works Best as a Perpetual Threat

According to a story in Haaretz, U.S. Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook said recently that “the United States will respond with military force if its interests are attacked by Iran.” However, there are several reasons why Israel and the U.S. will not attack Iran, at least not directly.

Al Jazeera reports that Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of the Lebanon-based Hezbollah, said that the idea of war is “far-fetched” because Washington and its allies know they would pay a heavy price. Nasrallah is most likely right.

US aircraft carrier deployed over Iran remains outside Gulf

A U.S. aircraft carrier the White House ordered to the Mideast over a perceived threat from Iran remains outside of the Persian Gulf amid efforts to de-escalate tensions between Tehran and Washington.

The Abraham Lincoln on Monday was in the Arabian Sea some 200 miles (320 kilometers) off the coast of Oman.

While U.S. Navy officials repeatedly declined to discuss why they hadn’t gone through the Strait of Hormuz into the Persian Gulf, they insisted they remain ready to launch any mission in the region.

What war with Iran could look like

So far, a full-scale conflict between the U.S. and its allies and Iran and its proxies remains in the realm of wargaming at the moment. But with tensions rising between the U.S. and Iran, and as the U.S. moves more troops and military assets into the region, Pentagon planners and top U.S. intelligence officials have begun taking a closer look at what such a conflict might entail.

US Carrier, Strategic Bomber Do 'Simulated Strike' Near Iran's Maritime Borders

The drills took place amid simmering tensions between Washington and Tehran, with the US sending a carrier battle group into the Middle East last month and threatening to sail it into the Persian Gulf, claiming the deployment was a response to intelligence about an alleged Iranian threat to US interests in the region.

The USS Abraham Lincoln, multiple fighter jets and helicopters and a B-52 strategic bomber have carried out joint exercises in the Arabian Sea, the US Air Force has said in a statement.

According to the USAF, the drills, which took place Saturday, "simulated strike operations," and involved carrier-based F/A-18 Super Hornets, MH-60 Sea Hawk helicopters and E-2D Growlers, with the aircraft simulating missions with the B-52, which is a nuclear-capable long-range bomber.

Iran stays within nuclear deal’s key limits – IAEA report

Tehran has stayed within the central limits on its atomic activities set by its deal with major powers, a quarterly report by the UN nuclear watchdog indicated on Friday.

The International Atomic Energy Agency report, which was sent to the IAEA member states, said Iran had stayed within caps on items including the level to which it enriches uranium and its stock of enriched uranium, Reuters reports.

Former Obama officials helping Iran to outmanuver U.S.

A small cadre of former Obama administration officials have been counseling Iranian Government officials since 2016 on how to deal with the Trump administration, according to the Daily Beast, which notes that Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zerif has been involved in the ongoing discussions.

Conversations between former Obama officials and Iranian government officials have been ongoing since November 2016. Zarif, who visits the U.S. every year for the U.N. General Assembly in New York, usually meets with lawmakers, think tanks, journalists, and former officials when he is in town.

But the recent round of conversations, which took place over the phone and in person over the last two months, came as lines of communication between the U.S. and Iran, through intermediaries in Europe and elsewhere, deteriorated. –Daily Beast

MAJOR ISRAELI AIRSTRIKES KILL UP TO 10 PRO-ASSAD FORCES IN PRE-DAWN RAID

SOURCE: ZEROHEDGE

Israel has admitted responsibility in a significant overnight attack on Syria which reportedly killed up to ten pro-Assad forces, including possibly seven of what the Israeli media is claiming were Iranian and Hezbollah "foreign fighters".

The predawn raid took place south of Damascus in Quneitra province and unlike prior Israeli attacks appeared to included a multi-pronged sustained offensive of warplanes and helicopters on artillery and intelligence facilities. Syrian state media confirmed the attack, saying its anti-air defenses were active and successful over Quneitra and over the capital of Damascus, but put its early casualties as three killed and seven among the wounded.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There is a point past which Russia cannot continue to tolerate these strikes in Syria; there will have to be a point where either they, or the Syrian military, will have to be much more aggressive to keep Israel from bombing more of Syria; and this country cannot tolerate much more of this bombing happening.

I would like to hope that Putin will phone Netanyahu, at some ungodly hour in the Middle East, and demand that this bombing stop.

Top US General Claims Intel Showed Iran Mounting a Campaign Against US

Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joe Dunford has revealed that it was he who was driving recent US military deployments into the Middle East, saying he recommended them based on intelligence with respect to Iran.

Dunford claimed that “malign activity and threats to our forces by the Iranians were not new,” but that what he saw was a synchronized series of efforts that looked more like a formal campaign against the US.

Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan confirmed that Dunford told him of an “anomaly” in Iranian behavior. At the same time, Shanahan says that President Trump has made clear he does not seek a war over the matter.

Webmaster's Commentary:

General Dunford, a respectful word sir, here; if you have utterly no evidence through which you can prove your allegations to a war-weary and war-skeptical country, how do you think that you, and your compatriots, like Bolton and Pompeo, are going to convince the people of this country that yes, another war is necessary, when the American people understand that they were lied into wars against Afghanistan and Iraq?!?

Forgive me, General; but the optics on such a move, are nearly impossible, if you continue to make allegations for which you have utterly no proof. OF course, the Israelis are pushing you in this direction; but perhaps, it should be the IDF fighting these battles, as they are always complaining and criticizing Iran as an "existential threat."

US says countries buying Iranian oil will be subject to sanctions

The United States will sanction any country which buys oil from Iran after the expiration of waivers on May 2, US Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook said on Thursday, Reuters reports.

Sanctions would be imposed “even if a country had not met its previously-negotiated purchase caps,” Hook said in a statement. “Our firm policy is to completely zero out purchases of Iranian oil. Period.”

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier on Thursday that countries like China and India which were issued waivers in November to buy Iranian could continue the purchases after May 2 until they reached a negotiated cap.

Trump reportedly seeks Adelson’s advice amid differences with Bolton

US President Donald Trump and his national security adviser, John Bolton, don’t exactly see eye to eye. That was on full display on Monday when Trump said that he was not “looking for regime change” in Iran.

The president’s comments were in sharp contrast to Bolton, who said in July 2017, before entering the administration, that “the declared policy of the United States should be the overthrow of the mullahs’ regime in Tehran.”

PUTIN HAS REJECTED IRAN'S S-400 MISSILE REQUEST OVER SOARING GULF TENSIONS

Bloomberg reports that Russia's President Putin has rejected a controversial Iranian request to buy S-400 missile defense systems on the basis of current soaring tensions between Tehran and Washington following accusations of "sabotage" attacks on oil tankers and a pipeline in the gulf region.

The breaking report cites a senior Russian official and other unnamed sources with knowledge of the matter:

The request was rebuffed by President Vladimir Putin, the people said on condition of anonymity because they’re not authorized to discuss the matter. Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif visited Moscow May 7.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Again, Putin has proven himself one of the few "adults in the room" in geopolitics.

This guy has the "horse sense" to know when to push (as he did with Syria's government, in terms of assisting it get rid of most of the US trained, funded, and armed jihadis), and when to back off (not giving Iran the requested S-400 missile defense system.)

I think world history, will treat this man very kindly, in years to come...

Washington’s Mighty Warriors: Draft Dodgers and Scoundrels

Remember Shakespeare’s line “he jests at scars that never felt a wound?” That epithet could have been written with National Security Advisor John Bolton in mind. Bolton was notoriously a draft dodger during the Vietnam War, like his current boss, not due to any scruples regarding what was occurring, but out of concern for his own sorry ass. He is now credibly believed to be the driving force behind the punishment being meted out to Venezuela and, far more dangerously, of the creeping escalation that is taking place in the Middle East that is seeking to draw Iran into a misstep that would lead to war. Bolton, who has received the “Defender of Israel” award, has long been an outspoken advocate for attacking Iran and now he has the power to do just that.

Evidence Iran was behind Gulf attacks to be presented to UN, John Bolton says

Evidence that Iran has been behind recent attacks on oil tankers and pipelines in the Gulf is likely to be presented to the UN Security Council as early as next week, John Bolton, the US national security adviser, has revealed.

Bolton has previously said Iran was almost certainly responsible for the attacks, but without presenting evidence. In what is likely to be a showdown over the US’s aggressive Iran strategy, in which Bolton has taken a leading role, much will depend on how credibly the US intelligence agencies can show the Iranian government is directing attacks by proxies.

“I don’t think anybody who is familiar with the situation in the region, whether they have examined the evidence or not, thinks anything other than that these attacks were carried out by Iran or their surrogates,” Bolton told reporters at a briefing ahead of Donald Trump’s state visit to the UK next week.

How Yesterday Resembles Today: Iran Confronted the US in the Straits of Hormuz in the 1980s

“We are going to intercept and stop all oil exports from the (Middle East) region if we are prevented from exporting our oil. We shall take every measure possible to close the Straits of Hormuz. If the US aims – by sending jets, carriers – to reinforce its positions and status among the international community, it doesn’t concern us. But if the US is seriously aiming to threaten us, it should know that not one drop of oil will leave the region and we shall destroy all US interests in the Middle East”. This is what the President Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei said in 1983, in response to the US President Ronald Regan’s decision to send jet carriers to the Middle East during the Iran-Iraq war. It seems like only yesterday.

Negotiation with US ‘total loss’: Ayatollah Khamenei

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has ruled out the possibility of talks between Tehran and Washington, saying such negotiations will be “fruitless”, “harmful”, and “a total loss”.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will absolutely not sit for talks with America … because first, it bears no fruit and second, it is harmful,” the Leader said in a meeting with a number of university professors, elites and researchers in Tehran on Wednesday.

The Leader referred to negotiation as a tactic used by Americans to complement their strategy of pressure. “This is actually not negotiation; it’s rather a means for picking the fruits of pressure.”

The only way to counter this trick, he said, is to utilize the means of pressure available for use against Americans. “If they are used properly, the Americans will either stop or decrease pressures.”

AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP ON U.S. TENSIONS WITH IRAN

Trump has soured on his national security adviser John Bolton and is trashing him in private as ultra-hawk travels to Middle East and says U.S. does NOT want war with Iran

President Donald Trump has soured on National Security Adviser John Bolton and is trashing him in private as the hawkish adviser reassures Middle Eastern allies the U.S. does not want war with Iran.

Trump has grumbled about Bolton in private at his Florida golf club, to advisers and even to mega-donor Sheldon Adelson - the conservative casino owner who backs Bolton, The New York Times revealed.

The reports of the strained relationship come as Bolton attends an emergency summits of Arab leaders in Saudi Arabia, where the adviser - who has previously advocated for harsh treatment of Iran - reassured allies the U.S. is being 'responsible' when it comes to Tehran.

Is the US media beating the drums of war on Iran?

Hyped-up headlines, "anonymous" sources and unspecified threats - Iran is back in the news in the United States.

It wouldn't be the first time the US media, wittingly or unwittingly, have made the case for war on the basis of vague, anonymously sourced intelligence. In 2003, it was Iraq. In 2019, it's Iran. Much of American news reporting on US-Iran relations glosses over President Donald Trump's role, how his policies have led to this standoff.

There's even less space given to reflect on the history of the US aggression against Iran. Which is not to say the Islamic Republic, ruled by authoritarians and involved in wars in Syria and Yemen, is an innocent player. However, inflammatory headlines, unnamed sources and decades of misinformation in the US media over Iran - don't help.

New York Times Supports False Trump Claims About An "Iranian Nuclear Weapons Program" That Does Not Exist

During a press conference in Japan U.S. President Donald Trump today said (video):

And I’m not looking to hurt Iran at all. I’m looking to have Iran say, “No nuclear weapons.” We have enough problems in this world right now with nuclear weapons. No nuclear weapons for Iran.
And I think we’ll make a deal.

Iran said: "No nuclear weapons." It said that several times. It continues to say that.

Iran does not have the intent to make nuclear weapons. It has no nuclear weapons program.

But Trump may be confused because the U.S. 'paper of the record', the New York Times, recently again began to falsely assert that Iran has such a program.

Congress Fiddles While Trump Lurches Toward War on Iran

Congress, and particularly the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives, seems determined to see the end of the Trump Administration before the 2020 vote. Although House Speaker Pelosi claims she is not seeking impeachment, she’s accusing the president of “covering up” something. However, she won’t say what until she can do more investigating.

But Trump’s opponents on both sides of the Congressional aisle don’t seem so enthusiastic about challenging the president when he actually does abuse his Constitutional authority to pursue a more aggressive policy overseas.

Late last week, for example, President Trump declared a national security "emergency" brought about by unspecified "Iranian malign activity” – a “loophole” allowing him to bypass Congressional review of some $8 billion in US weapons to be sold to Saudi Arabia.

Trump Claims US Not Seeking 'Regime Change' in Iran

Donald Trump is currently visiting Japan, whose prime minister is said to be considering serving as a mediator in possible peace talks between Iran and the United States.

The United States is not looking to overthrow Iran's government, President Donald Trump said on Monday, as tensions between the two countries flared with Washington deploying troops to the region.

"I know so many people from Iran, these are great people. It [Iran] has a chance to be a great country, with the same leadership. We are not looking for regime change, I just wanna make that clear," Trump said at a press conference in Tokyo, adding that he thinks "we'll make a deal" with Tehran.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump, a word, please; and forgive me, but I am getting "Intellectual Whiplash", as your rhetoric seems to slam Iran's leadership one day, then holds it upright the next, as though it consisted of people with whom you can actually deal, geopolitcally.

Sir, I do not believe that I am alone in this feeling.

And President Trump, I feel morally obligated to share the following concern; Israel's Netanyahu, and Saudi Arabia's Prince bin Salman, want to see Iran obliterated, and carved up into little fiefdoms, so that it cannot threaten them economically.

I do sense that a "false flag", to be blamed upon Iran, may happen against either American or Saudi troops, or interests, or both, very soon; perhaps on, or around, 4 July, which is one of our national holidays when, normally, this event pulls people together and, lets them celebrate the opportunities available here, no matter their ideological differences.

Mr. President, should such a thing happen, your first reaction has to be one of extreme Presidential discretion, not an immediate striking back, because you will most likely will be given false information from those who wish to see Iran fall.

To avoid a potential war with Iran, I suggest that you start engaging with Tehran and their leadership, at high levels.

Like maybe, yesterday, please?!?!

You need to also put intense pressure on Netanyahu and Prince Bin Salman, (both your BFFs in the Middle East, right?!?) to start sending envoys to Tehran.

Netanyahu understands that he can achieve a peaceful relationship with Iran, but doesn't want to do it, because Tel Aviv always tries to keep its citizens scared excrementless, of neighboring countries, and is constantly reminding its citizens to "be afraid; be very afraid."

But ultimately, the only way for the Jewish State of Israel to continue to exist, will be to "cage the rage, ...and engage" with all of its regional neighbors.

Do you remember, as a Dad, looking at your kid's report card, and seeing that it's "works well with others" column was nicely checked off, positively?!?

President Trump, that is precisely what has to happen here, between all interested regional governments.

And lastly, Mr. President, in the Chinese language, the symbol for crisis... and opportunity are one in the same. Please, I urge you to remember this, when thinking about the US geopolitical approach to Tehran, and how to achieve a positive, constructive, and lasting outcome here.

Guess who doesn't want war with Iran? Trump supporters

Supporters of Donald Trump who hoped that he would adopt a new, less interventionist foreign policy for the United States have ample reasons to feel disappointed. The administration’s increasingly belligerent policy toward Iran, which may lead to war, is just the most recent case in which the president has betrayed those supporters.

During his presidential campaign in 2016, Trump repeatedly condemned Washington’s regime-change wars and nation-building crusades. Much to the shock and fury of the other Republican candidates, he did not confine his criticism to policies that Barack Obama’s administration pursued; instead he excoriated George W Bush for the Iraq war and the seemingly endless military mission in Afghanistan.

Over 70 retired military leaders sign letter urging Trump against war with Iran

More than 70 retired military leaders wrote an open letter to President Trump urging him to avoid war with Iran.

The former Armed Forces leaders advised Trump in a letter published Thursday in War on the Rocks to take "crisis de-escalation measures."

"As President and Commander-in-Chief, you have considerable power at your disposal to immediately reduce the dangerous levels of regional tension," they wrote. "Crisis de-escalation measures should be established with the Iranian leadership at the senior levels of government as a prelude to exploratory diplomacy on matters of mutual concern."

They added that diplomacy, not armed conflict would be best for U.S. interests.

Pence’s “battlefield for America” is a brazen lie. America has but one reason to wage wars in the Middle East—and that reason is Israel.

The trillion dollar wars past, present, and future in the Middle East—in Syria, Libya, Iraq, Yemen, and Iran—do not in any way benefit the US, and instead have made America an international outlaw.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Kurt absolutely nails it here.

And President Trump, a word please; what this country needs, and desperately, as in, YESTERDAY, is a Department of Peace, with an ability to demonstrate to you how geopolitical tensions can be diffused through intelligent, hard-won, moral negotiations rather than wars.

Mike and I are volunteering to do this for you, and right now!!!

You are welcome, Mr. President!!!! :-)

BIPARTISAN THIRST FOR MORE WAR: 75% OF CONGRESS CALLS ON TRUMP TO BOOST INTERVENTION IN SYRIA, TO ‘PRESSURE’ IRAN AND RUSSIA

SOURCE: BEN NORTON, GRAYZONE PROJECT

WHILE TRUMP THREATENS IRAN AND VENEZUELA WITH NEW WARS, 400 CONGRESS MEMBERS, INCLUDING LEADERS FROM BOTH PARTIES, WANT TO INTENSIFY THE EIGHT-YEAR WAR ON SYRIA, TO WEAKEN IRAN, RUSSIA, AND HEZBOLLAH.
While the Donald Trump administration is threatening two new wars on Iran and Venezuela, a substantial majority of the US Congress is clamoring for more immediate action.

Nearly 400 Congress members from both chambers — roughly 75 percent of all federal US lawmakers — have signed an open letter calling on President Trump to escalate the war in Syria, in the name of countering Iran, Russia, and Lebanese Hezbollah.

Top Democratic Party leaders have joined hawkish Republicans in a bipartisan demand that the far-right president “address threats in Syria” and “demonstrate American leadership in resolving the prolonged conflict.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to remember; unlike the President, (who has to put his money into a blind trust, before he takes the Oath of Office), Senators and Congressional Representatives, can put their money, in terms of investment, anywhere they wish.

One has to wonder, just how many of them are invested in either companies which provide weaponry, or other military-supportive companies, like those who create medicines, or food, for our troops.

When wars come, companies like these, make incredible profits, as well do their stockholders. So, when our "alleged" representatives feel that they can "justify" wars (in which, I might add, their kids will most probably not be fighting), they will do so, at the drop of a hat; hell, they have nothing to loose, right?!?

Wars represent a terrible failure of imagination, for most logical folks.

And of course, Israel and AIPAC, are encouraging these was against their enemies, so the costs will only be borne, in American blood, and American money.

Iraq says stands by Iran against US sanctions

Iraq stands by Iran against US sanctions, Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohamed Alhakim said Sunday.

Alhakim held talks in Baghdad with his Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif, who arrived in the Iraqi capital for discussions with Iraqi officials.

The top Iraqi diplomat said bilateral relations between Baghdad and Tehran were the focus of Zarif’s visit to Iraq.

“We are against the US sanctions against Iran,” Alhakim said.

Obama White House secretly gave Iran access to US financial systems: GOP report

A Senate subcommittee report alleges that the Obama administration secretly sought to give Iran access to U.S. financial systems by sidestepping sanctions kept in place after the 2015 nuclear deal.

The report claims the Obama Treasury Department issued a license to Bank Muscat to authorize "conversion of Iranian assets worth billions of U.S. dollars using the U.S. financial system."

“I think it’s part of a larger fraud of the Iran deal where it was presented as a treaty, but they made an end run around the Senate,” Wall Street Journal editorial board member Bill McGurn told FOX Business on Thursday.

President Donald Trump is calling for an investigation into the allegations outlined in the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations report.

Iran Can Sink U.S. Warships With 'Secret Weapons,' Military Official Says

Iran can sink U.S. warships sent to the Gulf region using missiles and "secret weapons", a senior Iranian military official was quoted as saying by the semi-official news agency Mizan on Saturday.

The United States on Friday announced the deployment of 1,500 troops to the Middle East, describing it as an effort to bolster defenses against Iran as it accused the country's Revolutionary Guards of direct responsibility for this month's tanker attacks.

"America.. is sending two warships to the region. If they commit the slightest stupidity, we will send these ships to the bottom of the sea along with their crew and planes using two missiles or two new secret weapons," General Morteza Qorbani, an adviser to Iran's military command, told Mizan.

China Victory Assured With Any US/Iran Conflict

The outcome of a U.S. war with Iran is as predictable as the outcome of the 1997 blockbuster Titanic. The great ship of state ends up at the bottom of the ocean – everything else is just small drama.

The above is not a desperate cry for caution or pragmatism. It is based on the fact that our military is 100 percent reliant on China for critical technology metals, alloys, magnets, garnets and other post-oxide rare earth materials.

China relies on Iranian oil and has clearly signaled that it will defy US sanctions on Iran. China has also recently signaled that it is hunkering down for what may prove to be a protracted trade war.

White House To Send Another 2,000 Troops To Counter "Credible" Iranian Threat

Yesterday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo assured his interviewers on Fox News that the threat from Iran is totally "real" and "credible" - though he once again refused to get into specifics. But whatever the threat might be, American troops in the region will soon be able to sleep a little easier, because the White House and Pentagon have reportedly agreed to send "roughly 2,000" additional troops to the Middle East...to help protect American forces in the region.

Other reports put the number at closer to 1,500. Trump met with Pentagon leaders Thursday evening where they decided to move ahead with the troop deployment to CENTCOM, which oversees all American troops in the Middle East.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Does our Secretary of State, not understand, that he is TELEGRAPHING a false flag, to be blamed against Iran?!?!?

Trump Bypasses Congress To Approve $8 Billion In Arms Sales To Saudi Arabia, UAE

Not long after he reportedly agreed to send another 1,500-2,000 troops to the Middle East in yet another show of strength to combat an increasingly belligerent Iran, President Trump steamrolled Congress on Friday to approve $8 billion in arms sales to the UAE and Saudi Arabia and expedite delivery, WSJ reports.

The administration invoked a rarely used provision of American arms control laws to bypass Congress and approve the weapons sales, citing the escalating tensions with Iran as justification. WSJ's sources said the $8 billion figure encapsulates a package of 22 separate deals.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would strongly suspect, that this new weapons sales to Saudi Arabia, isn't, at least, right now Iran-focused, but the continued stalemate in Yemen, which has the US fighting on the side of the Saudis, with no end in sight.

The Butcher of Yemen, is probably going to use most of this hardware to do carpet bombing of the country, so very few are left alive; in fact, in the corporate warmonger feeds, I still am hearing not a word about Yemen, from those annoying talking heads, just what a "threat" Iran is (supplying no specifics, of course). My potential "window" for an israel-delivered "false flag", to be blamed, of course, on Iran, would be any time between this Monday, 26 May, through Thursday, 4 July.

Trump may use Iran tensions to bypass Congress, sell Saudis more bombs: Senator

A US senator has warned that President Donald Trump may use the tensions Washington has been stocking with Iran as a pretext to sell more bombs to the Saudi regime without congressional approval.

In a series of tweets on Wednesday, Chris Murphy, the Connecticut Democrat and member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said that the Trump administration may cite tensions with Iran as an “emergency” to justify supplying more arms to the Riyadh regime.

“I am hearing that Trump may use an obscure loophole in the Arms Control Act and notice a major new sale of bombs to Saudi Arabia (the ones they drop in Yemen) in a way that would prevent Congress from objecting. Could happen this week,” Murphy said.

“Arms control law allows Congress to reject a sale to a foreign country. But Trump would claim the sale constitutes an ‘emergency’ which means Congress can't take a vote of disapproval. It would go through automatically,” he added.

Israel: “Wiped off The Map”. The Rumor of the Century, Fabricated by the US Media to Justify An All out War on Iran

Global Research Editor’s Note

The following text by Arash Norouzi first published by the Mossadegh Project and Global Research in January 2007 confirms that the alleged “Wiped Off the Map” statement by Iran’s president was never made.

In the light of recent US threats directed Iran, we are reposting this important article.

Iran does not constitute a threat to Israel.

The rumor was fabricated by the American media with a view to discrediting Iran’s head of state and providing a justification for waging an all out war on Iran. the article provides of media manipulation and “propaganda in action”.

Iran is blamed for refusing to abide by the “reasonable demands” of “the international community”.

In recent developments, Iran is persistently described as threatening the security of Israel. And Israel is described as instrumental in determining US foreign policy.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And the $64,000 dollar question here is, if the US invades Iran, what will Russia and China's parliaments do?@?

Sit back and sing, "Kumbya"?!?

U.S. Air Force has deployed 20 missiles that could zap the military electronics of North Korea or Iran with super powerful microwaves, rendering their military capabilities virtually useless with NO COLLATERAL DAMAGE

The U.S. Air Force has deployed at least 20 missiles that could zap the military electronics of North Korea or Iran with high-power microwaves, rendering their military capabilities virtually useless without causing any fatalities, DailyMail.com has learned exclusively.

Known as the Counter-Electronics High Power Microwave Advanced Missile Project (CHAMP), the missiles were built by Boeing's Phantom Works for the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory and tested successfully in 2012. They have not been operation until now.

The microwave weapons are fitted into an air-launched cruise missile and delivered from B-52 bombers. With a range of 700 miles, they can fly into enemy airspace at low altitude and emit sharp pulses of high power microwave (HPM) energy that fry computer chips, disabling any electronic devices targeted by the missiles with causing any collateral damage.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It appears, from the look of this, that most probably, the missiles might be weighted, in terms of location, with more of them having been deployed in the Middle East, rather than our forces in Asia.

Mike Pompeo explains the Trump Doctrine

Mike Pompeo doesn’t reckon himself a media critic, but the secretary of state can’t help but grin at the hysterical coverage that attends the Trump administration’s every move on the world stage. The latest example came last week, when reporters and liberal foreign-policy types managed to convince themselves that Team Trump was prepping a full-scale invasion of Iran.

“White House Reviews Military Plans Against Iran, in Echoes of Iraq War” screamed a New York Times headline.

“When you see that headline, it’s flashy, but it doesn’t begin to reflect the depth of the work that’s been done,” Pompeo says as we sit down for an interview at the plush Palace Hotel in Midtown.

‘Mostly Psychological Warfare’: US Unlikely to Initiate War With Iran

While US leaders have once again begun beating the drums of war with Iran, moving US military assets to the region, an Iranian expert on American studies told Sputnik it was just posturing, because US leaders know Iran’s capabilities and that a war would cause global chaos.

The White House announced Sunday that the US Navy's aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln would deploy to the Persian Gulf region with a battle group as well as an unspecified bomber task force to address "troubling and escalating indications and warnings" from Iran.

Vast Majority Of Americans Reject Attack On Iran; Half Expect War "Within Few Years"

War with Iran remains a deeply unpopular prospect among the American people, but a new opinion poll conducted by Reuters and polling organization Ipsos found there's not much optimism concerning the likelihood of getting entangled in a future conflict. The poll released Tuesday found that half of all Americans see the US and Iran being at war "within the next few years".

As of early this week it appeared the White House as well as Pentagon were firmly signaling the US has climbed down the escalation ladder, with statements claiming the US military build-up near the Persian Gulf of the past two weeks had forced Iran to put its planned actions against US troops "on hold" in order to "recalculate".

Webmaster's Commentary:

Netanyahu wants this war, and at double-march speed time.

He cannot wait for Trump to turn around and do something logical here, so I would say that a reasonable "window" for a false flag event, to be blamed on Iran, would be between Monday, Memorial Day, and Thursday, 4 July, which is the US's main patriotic event.

Please understand that I would hate like heck to be right; but this is what I see, looking at, with all the pieces of the puzzle in view.

Iran president seeks wartime executive powers following US tensions

Iran's president has told a group of clerics that he is seeking expanded, wartime executive powers to better deal with an "economic war" triggered by the Trump administration's pullout from the nuclear deal and escalating US sanctions.

The state IRNA news agency reported late Monday that President Hassan Rouhani cited the 1980s war with Iraq, when a wartime supreme council was able to bypass other branches to make decisions regarding the economy and the war.

The report didn't say what the new powers would entail but quoted Rouhani as saying that "today, we need such powers".

Webmaster's Commentary:

COME ON, can you blame the guy, looking at an impending war with the US would do to his country for heaven's sake?!?

The short, logical answer is, no.

Senate Committee Rejects Requiring Congress Sign Off on Iran War

Congress never authorized a US war in Iran. Under the US Constitution, Congress has sole authority to do that, so that’s seemingly an important deal. With the US engaged in other unauthorized wars, however, it has been little more than a side note, and the Trump Administration has considered Congressional involvement in the process to be optional, at best.

Sens. Chris Murphy (D-CT) and Tom Udall (D-NM) led an effort on Wednesday to try to reassert Congressional authority, by trying to preemptively de-fund any US war against Iran unless Congress authorized it ahead of time.

This proposal was brought forward at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and immediately failed, 13-9. Murphy said this vote would remind the administration that they don’t have authorization for the war.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It has never been so painfully clear, in the history of the US Congress, that those in it, have had both their consciences, and spines, surgically removed.

Pentagon Plans to Send 10,000 US Troops to Middle East to Confront Iran

Citing ongoing US-Iran tensions and the secret intelligence on Iranian “threats” officials keep mentioning, CENTCOM is requesting that the Pentagon approve substantial numbers of additional US ground troops to be deployed somewhere in the Middle East.

Though initial reports claimed that CENTCOM was only requesting “about 5,000” ground troops, subsequent reports said that the Pentagon are preparing a plan to present to President Trump seeking 10,000 troops.

It’s not clear where these troops could be stationed, though officials emphasized they would be purely defensive. It is unlikely Iraq would welcome a large influx of US troops, however, especially when it is presented as being directed against neighboring Iran.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump, a word, please: these acts will be viewed as preparations for a war against Iran.

And it appears to me, that CENTCOM is getting rather drunk on its own cork, and not looking at the gaping "holes" in the US military posture.

And what happens, please, if China and Russia decide to enter the fray on Iran's side?!?

And have you not noticed that the further this country drives Iran away, with sanctions, etc., the closer it is moving toward partnerships with Russia and China, to the point of doing away with any transactions which used to be done in US dollar denomination?!?

Sir, please wake up, and direct CENTCOM to come up with any other way of "dealing" with Iran's alleged aggressions," which doesn't involve committing the US troops to another senseless, stupid war.

And Mr. President, please remember; in 2016, you were hired by the American people to move this country forward, on a platform of peace and prosperity; if you commit to another war, you are bailing on that platform.

If the U.S. Goes to War With Iran, Netanyahu Will Be the Prime Suspect

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is the only world leader to openly express support for the escalating U.S. campaign against Iran, but his statement is an exception to the general Israeli rule. In the two weeks that have passed since the U.S. announced it was reinforcing its military presence in the Persian Gulf, official Israel has mostly taken on a vow of silence. “Luckily, we are not involved,” naively optimistic defense officials briefed reporters.

Officials Reject Pompeo’s Claim Iran Is Working With al-Qaeda

In testimony to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo declared that “there is no doubt there is a connection between the Islamic Republic of Iran and al-Qaeda. Period. Full stop.”

If the connection was that al-Qaeda has been fighting against Iran, and vice versa, for decades he might have a point. That’s clearly not Pompeo’s intention, however, and other officials are noting that he’s wrong.

Pentagon and State Department officials say Pompeo’s comments were “way out of proportion,” and that there “is nothing in the intelligence to suggest” that Iran and al-Qaeda are working together in some grand anti-US alliance.

Has the New York Times declared war on Iran?

Once upon a time, the United States launched a war on Iraq with the help of false allegations of WMD.

The corporate media - and most memorably the US newspaper of record, the New York Times -thrust itself onto the PR frontlines by presenting as reality the unhinged claims of the George W Bush administration.

A repeat performance

Now, more than 16 years and an obscene quantity of Iraqi deaths later, it seems we may be witnessing a repeat performance of the same old media tricks, this time targeting Iran - although at least Times foreign affairs columnist Thomas Friedman has not yet decreed that the Iranians be made to “suck on this”.

First off, of course, there’s the ongoing nuclear hysteria, which apparently can’t be put to rest no matter how many times we review the facts.

May 23 10:25

THE PENTAGON ASKS TRUMP TO SEND THOUSANDS OF U.S. TROOPS TO THE MIDDLE EAST AS TENSIONS WITH IRAN CONTINUE TO RISE

SOURCE: THE ECONOMIC COLLAPSE

The more steps that we take toward a war with Iran, the more likely it becomes that somebody will do something really stupid that will actually trigger one. By cutting off Iran’s oil exports, we are threatening to completely wreck their economy, and at this point they feel backed into a corner. And the Iranians have already watched the U.S. invade two countries that they share a border with (Afghanistan and Iraq), and so it is understandable that they are a bit paranoid that it could happen to them too. President Trump keeps saying that he doesn’t want a war with Iran, but the Iranians do not believe a single word any U.S. politician says. Instead, they watch what we actually do very, very closely, and the fact that the Pentagon wants to deploy thousands of new troops to the Middle East is definitely going to freak them out. The following comes from Fox News…

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, just because something is one of the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing the US and its military could do, is absolutely no guarantee that they won't do it.

And there is a paragraph after the last one I copied, which I don't believe at all; the writer of this article, characterizes Iran's leadership as "insane", and frankly, I wouldn't go there.

I think that the Iranians care as much for their kids, and their country, as we do for our kids and our country. In reading presstv.com (an English language version of Iranian state-approved news), you see kids, young men and young women, competing in both sports, and intellectual combat, like building and programming robots, and mathanasium challenges.

One of the best, highest ranked global universities for computer science, to be found in Iran

They understand that they live in the 21st century, and want their kids to be as competitive and ready, as they can possibly be.

So Mr. President, a word, please: any kind of invasion/attack against Iran, of course, preceded by a "false flag, to be blamed against it, (most probably courtesy of Mossad) is NOT what We the People wanted, when they voted you into office. They hired you to run this country on a peace and prosperity platform; not more endless wars.

And please understand, that if you do this, Israel's Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu will not give a rat's anus, if we wind up with hundreds, or thousand American troops dead or maimed for life.

Israel is always eager for other countries to fight their wars for it, so that the costs in blood, and money, will only be absorbed by those proxy fighters, and not Israel.

And there is another question about this potential for further deployment of Americans in the Middle East; what happens when Russia and/or China, decide to come in on Iran's side?!?

Do you remember what happened in Syria, when Russian troops and weaponry got rid if most of the jihadi there (including those paid for by US tax funds?!?)

Sir, please don't back away from asking this of Kenneth McKenzie, head of U.S. Central Command, and Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan; as of an article dated 16 May, at bloomberg.com stated:

US "Evidence" of Iran Threat readied for Release by the Pentagon. The article went on to state:

"The evidence may be released within a day, according to one of the officials, because the White House recognizes it needs to disclose more documentation to skeptical allies, U.S. lawmakers and the public.

These include images of the two dhows, slow-moving vessels that U.S. analysts believe were carrying cruise missiles that are designed to attack land targets and would be fired directly from the boats rather than shipped to other locations, according to one of the defense officials.

The vessels could be easily disguised among the many dhows that transit the Persian Gulf in routine commerce -- unlike the easily spotted speedboats that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has long used to intimidate crews of oil vessels from other nations and occasionally to harass American ships in the Persian Gulf"

Translation; they are "cherry picking" the data, to make it appear that there IS a credible threat from Iran, and that is what will be shown to Congress and to you, President Trump.

And Mr. President, forgive me, but if US lawmakers, the public, and allies may be characterized as being "skeptical", about these claims, please remember the following: The US government flat out lied about "Saddam Hussein's having alleged "weapons of mass destruction", to get the Iraq war going

It was all about the oil, and insuring that it was only sold in US dollars, and Iraq is still one hot, sticky mess from that never-ending war.

Mr. President, you and Congress may state the need for "confrontation", because Israel wants to get this war going quickly, as they are unsure if you are getting "cold feet" about it; but sir, if you do this, it will be another war, based on lies, to create confrontation where there could possibly be collaboration.

US governmental credibility has been well and truly flushed, when you ordered that the US withdraw from the P5+1 Agreement; please don't make this any worse than it already is, as the Middle East is already on the cusp of disaster.

Iranians Ready for War Against US Great Satan; Khamenei Prophesies Total Persian Victory

Tensions are reaching critical levels as Washington continues to threaten Iran while the madmen Bolton and Pompeo are growing bolder by the day. Bolton has reportedly requested 120 000 troops to be sent to the Middle East, about the same number of troops sent for the tragic Iraq war. This would in his mind show the Iranians who’s in charge, I guess. The Time Has Come for Patriotic Dissent: Stopping War With Iran Is Essential

What if they called a war and no one came? Well, now’s the time folks. The apparent march to war with Iran represents a pivotal moment in the historical arc – the rise and fall – of our republic come empire. This potential war is so unnecessary, so irrational, that it borders on the absurd. Still, since the U.S. now fields a professional, volunteer military, few citizens have “skin in the game.” As such, they could hardly care less.

Unlike in past wars – think Vietnam – there is no longer a built in, established antiwar movement. This is unfortunate, and, dangerous for a democracy. See the US Government operates with near impunity in foreign affairs, waging global war without the consent of the people and, essentially, uninterested in what the people have to say at all. It should not be thus in a healthy republic. People should not fear their government; governments should fear their people.

Congressional Letter Urges Trump to Keep US Troops in Syria

A bipartisan letter signed by nearly 400 US Congress members is calling on President Trump to remain militarily engaged within Syria, while claiming to be “deeply concerned” about extremists in the country.

President Trump had announced a pullout from Syria in December, but had already disavowed it repeatedly by February. Still, lawmakers want to keep emphasizing how enthusiastic about the Syrian War they are, and push Trump into escalating it against various other parties.

Once a war about ISIS, the letter urges Trump to “increase pressure on Iran and Russia with respect to their activities in Syria.” The US already treated Syria as something of a proxy war, and the letter suggests they do away with all pretext and just make it into a war against Iran and Russia over Syria.

Israel and the war on Iran

An American-led war on Iran is still a possibility, despite the fact that US President Donald Trump has openly expressed his lack of enthusiasm for it now, in contrast to his National Security Advisor John Bolton. Israel comes to mind in this instance, despite the unlikely possibility of Israel participating directly in a military confrontation, especially after Washington explicitly asked Israel not to interfere in the event of a war. This is similar to the position during the second Gulf War in 1991.

POMPEO TO IRAQ: STAND WITH US AGAINST IRAN OR MOVE ASIDE

SOURCE: MIDDLE EAST MONITOR
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warned Iraqi leaders that if they are not going to stand with the US against Iran, then they should stand aside, AP reported.

Pompeo’s message came last week as he met with Iraqi leaders to discuss the mounting tension between Washington and Tehran.

The news agency said the message was relayed to it by two Iraqi officials who refused to be named, pointing out that Pompeo’s visit to Baghdad came as intelligence had received information about Iranian threats to US interests in the Middle East.

“There are fears that Baghdad will get caught again in the conflict between Washington and Tehran after recovering from the effects of its war on the Islamic State,” the news site reported, in reference to Daesh.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder if this unbearably tone-deaf rant has to do with Pompeo's taking graduate level classes from Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu, in both hubris and chutzpah?!?

Iraqis have every moral, and reasonable right to be concerned about the US potentially using their country as a "base from which to attack Iran."

But there was one guy who most probably wouldn't have wanted to speak to Pompeo at all; that is, the most powerful man in Iraq who holds no office; that would, of course, be Muktada Al Sadr.

And this is because his coalition won control of Iraq's Parliament: how painfully ironic that had to be to the US government and Military?!?!?

He was also the spiritual leader of the Mahdi Army, against which the US was continuously fighting in Iraq. He was also the guy who said, that if US troops did not leave precisely at the moment specified by the SOFA agreement, US military would become "fair game" for his fighters.

His now being in control of the Iraqi Parliament, has to be one of the worst nightmares for the defense department and state department.

And of course, you didn't hear this from most of the Corporate Pressitutes, but yesterday, Moktada al Sadr, with other Iraqi clerics, made the statement:

Iraqi Shiite Figures warn that a US war against Iran, would cause Iraq to burn

The article goes on to state:

"Populist Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr said any political party that would drag Iraq in a U.S.-Iran war “would be the enemy of the Iraqi people.” al-

Leading Iraqi Shiite figures warned Monday against attempts to pull their country into a war between the U.S. and Iran, saying it would turn Iraq into a battlefield yet again, just as it is on the path to recovery.

The warning came hours after a rocket slammed into Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green Zone, landing less than a mile from the sprawling U.S. Embassy. No injuries were reported and no group immediately claimed the Sunday night attack.

Shortly after, President Donald Trump tweeted a warning to Iran not to threaten the United States or it will face its “official end.”

So President Trump and Secretary Pompeo, a thought here, please; just a small caveat; it is said that Muktada al Sadr keeps in very close touch with the commanders of his former Mahdi Army.

IF the US declares war on Iran, and uses Iraqi soil from which to stage their attack, how long would it take this guy, to "get the band back together", in terms of US military having to fight off both Iranian military, and his Mahdi Army?!?

Gentlemen, the honest, short answer is, "not long at all".

I sure hope that at least ONE of you is getting more than a few sleepless nights about this potential.

"Overwhelming Military Response Needed": Graham Urges Trump "Stand Firm" On Iran

Here we go again — just as tensions seemed to be calming going into the weekend, with Trump distancing himself from some of the more out-front escalatory rhetoric from hawks like Bolton within his own administration last Friday, leave it to who else but Senator Lindsey Graham to ramp things up again. "We must deliver an overwhelming military response," he tweeted in reference to Iran.

Following Saudi claims last week that Iran was behind a Houthi drone attack out of Yemen which targeted an ARAMCO pumping station and pipeline, and after the alleged "sabotage" attack on Saudi and other tankers near the Strait of Hormuz, Graham said early Monday it was "clear" that Iran has "attacked pipelines and ships of other nations" over the past weeks.

Iran: 'Situation' Not Suitable for Talks With US, Resistance Only Choice

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said late on Monday that all officials in Iran have reached a consensus to withstand the US and its policy of sanctions, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported.

“If we walked away from the JCPOA with the US provocative acts, then, in addition to the US, the UN and world would also impose sanctions on us […] I favor talks and diplomacy but under current conditions, I do not accept it, as today [the] situation is not suitable for talks and our choice is resistance only”, Rouhani said, cited by the IRNA.

Iran announces four-fold increase in uranium enrichment

Making good on threats to pull back from its commitments under the 2015 nuclear pact with world powers, Tehran has quadrupled its production of enriched uranium, according to Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization.

The increase was announced Monday by a spokesperson for Iran’s nuclear authority, Behrouz Kamalvandi, who told Iranian media that the decision was made to “counteract offensive sanctions.”

Kamalvandi clarified that Iran would not increase its number of centrifuges, and that the uranium would for now remain at its current level of enrichment, at just over 3.5 percent.

‘It would mark the end of Iraq’: Shia clerics warn against US war with Iran

As Washington and Tehran trade threats, a number of influential Iraqi Shia leaders have warned that a conflict between the US and Iran would be disastrous for Iraq, possibly destroying the country beyond repair.

A prominent Shia cleric, a leading politician and two militia representatives each voiced opposition to a possible war with the Islamic Republic on Monday, warning of apocalyptic consequences for their country.

“This war would mark the end of Iraq,” said Shia cleric and politician Muqtada al-Sadr, whose populist ‘Sadrist’ movement enjoys a large following. “We need peace and reconstruction.”

COULD U.S. DEFEAT IRAN’S NAVY? THIS EXERCISE SHOWS WAR WOULD NOT BE EASY

The United States is widely cited as the world's foremost military power, but the country has a spotty record when it comes to asymmetrical warfare. Now-infamous war games conducted nearly 17 years ago showed a maritime matchup against tactics similar to those of Iran would likely prove extremely deadly for the Navy.

A new wave of tensions between longtime foes Washington and Tehran was set off by alleged reports of Iran pursuing new missile activity in the region, just as it prepared to commemorate the U.S.' unilateral pullout from a 2015 nuclear deal by stepping back from some of its own commitments to the historic agreement. Among these alleged threats were satellite imagery purporting to show small traditional sailing vessels known as dhows being fitted with cruise missiles.

Mitt Romney: War with Iran is 'not going to happen'

Senator Mitt Romney said in an interview that aired Sunday that he believes war with Iran is "not going to happen."

He said on CNN's "State of the Union" that he doesn't believe President Trump or his hawkish national security adviser, John Bolton, want war with Tehran.

“I don’t believe for a minute that either the president or John Bolton…has any interest in going to the Middle East and going to war. That’s just not going to happen. There’s no interest in doing that,” said Romney, a frequent critic of Trump who sits on the Senate foreign relations committee.

CORPORATE MEDIA SETTING UP IRAN AS NEW "THREAT" THAT MUST BE CONFRONTED

Authored by Janine Jackson via Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting,

The Washington Post editorial’s headline (5/14/19) had the US “drifting” toward war with Iran—another example, as analyst Nima Shirazi quipped, of the “world’s superpower somehow having no agency over its own imperialism.”
If we can still call things “surreal,” that would describe watching corporate media do the same things they did in the run-up to the Iraq War, things they later disavowed: the credulous repetition of administration claims about the supposed threat; the reliance, for interpretation of “intelligence,” on officials with well known records for manipulating intelligence; the stenographic reporting of ‘troubling’ actions by the enemy state, that later have to be walked back.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mr. President, a word, please; this hyped up, potential military confrontation with Iran, is one of the most ludicrous creations of your Administration.

We understand that Netanyahu, and Sheldon Adelson, are pushing you to the max to have the US start or trigger this war, as they have tried a number of administrations ago (so that the IDF doesn't have to fight Iran, but the costs in blood and money, will be totally those of the American people).

But the only reason for it, would be economic in nature, because Israel wants Iran broken up, so that it will get lost in its own internal squabbles, and not be a practical, economic threat any longer.

When citizens are defending their homeland, and there's lots of skin in the game, if you will, they will fight, to the death, if they have to, to keep the foreign fighters away from their doors.

And what if Russia and China weigh in on Iran's side?!?

They know, President Trump, what the US has in terms of weaponry, troop strength, manufacturing, and financing.

They also know that at least that we know of, the National Dept is running around $22 trillion right now.

The US government is broke, desperate, and may use this war to attempt to distract ordinary people from understanding, what has happened to the economy since your watch began.

For the monied, it's wonderful; for those of us who are not... not quite so good.

I fear that in order to feed these endless wars and occupations you have approved (by not pulling out our troops from some, or all of these quagmires) we are going to see the reinstitution of the draft in this country, to keep up military strength.

And THAT, sir, will be the moment the fertilizer hits the ventilation system.

And I say this, because many Americans are now awakened to the reality that all wars are economic in nature; how likely, then, are they to respond to a draft when they know the all wars are bankers' wars, and that financial institutions profit big-time, from wars and death?!?

This may lead to riots of such a nature that local police and military members are unable to put them down "with extreme prejudice".

Then what, Mr. President?!?

I would like to politely suggest, that if you are so impossibly incapable of "caging the rage and engaging" with world leaders, this needs to be made the responsibility of someone else, please, who can.

The "mesmerizing effect" you have on your base, doesn't cut it with world leaders who really understand the meaning of the word "negotiation", and always work to "be the adults in the room." with rational judgement, and a willingness to compromise.

Right now, on the international stage, two of those poster people, for being adults in the room, are Sergei Lavrov , and his boss, President Putin; they are constantly trying to take the "military/political edge off" of world situations, and look where negotiations can be win/win; unfortunately, sir, the world, right now, is seeing you churlish; impetuous; ill-mannered, and very much an arrested adolescent, wearing some very luxurious grown people's clothing.

Iran stance is straight from Trump's North Korea playbook

If the current war of words between Iran and the United States has strange echoes of 2017, it's because the same US strategy is at work.

The Trump administration is using its North Korea playbook on Iran: Use a "maximum pressure" campaign -- the same nomenclature was used for Tehran and Pyongyang -- to box the adversary into a corner, then try to negotiate. Respond to a threat by escalating your own threat. Then negotiate to alleviate tensions and claim a win.

In North Korea's case, it was US President Donald Trump's now-infamous "fire and fury" ultimatum that kicked off the biggest tensions: "North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States. They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen... he has been very threatening beyond a normal state."

Iran and the West: Can Europe restrain the US?

The schism between the United States and Europe over Iran bears the hallmarks of their friction over Iraq prior to the 2003 US-led invasion. Their current dispute is mainly over means not ends, but could have major implications for transatlantic relations and the Middle East.

Both the US and the EU would like to see the Ayatollahs' Iran contained and constrained, preferably under new leadership - just as they wanted to see Saddam Hussein's Iraq before 2003 - but as in the past, they disagree on how to go about it. To put it simply, it is a dispute over "carrots or sticks" - or whether to bring Iran to its senses or bring it to its knees.

The Europeans want to compel the Islamic Republic to change its behaviour using trade and investments in accordance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), while the US wants to coerce it into a much more debilitating deal through tough sanctions and the threat of force.

UK advises British-Iranian nationals not to travel to Iran

Britain advised all citizens holding dual British and Iranian nationality on Friday to avoid travelling to Iran, saying they faced an unacceptably higher risk of arbitrary detention and mistreatment compared to other nationals.

The advice came after Iran said on Monday it had sentenced an Iranian woman, who worked for the British Council cultural agency, to 10 years prison for spying for Britain.

Analysis: There Is Little Hope that Europe Will Stand in the Way of a US War with Iran

The United States will go to war with Iran if nothing is done to prevent it. This is the assumption that the world’s geopolitical actors have worked off for the better part of two decades, and there has been precious little evidence to the contrary.

In the early 2000s, once it became clear that the War on Terror was, for all intents and purposes, a war without end, Iran loomed in the background of the nightmares that engulfed Afghanistan and Iraq and persist to this day. The fact that this original member of the ‘Axis of Evil’ escaped the heyday of post-9/11 imperial adventurism has stuck in the craw of the United States’ sulking, unrepentant neoconservatives ever since.

US Is Heading Toward a Looming Maritime Showdown… but Not With Iran

There are many indications that the United States and China are creeping towards a potential conflict in the South China Sea. When the motivations behind this war become clear the stakes become that much more serious.

While the world is drumming up a potential maritime showdown between the US and Iran (yet again), Western media is conveniently ignoring a potential looming conflict in the South China Sea, one that has been building up for years.

Saudis say they will defend themselves, as Trump warns Iran

Saudi Arabia does not want war but will not hesitate to defend itself against Iran, a top Saudi diplomat said Sunday after the kingdom’s energy sector was targeted this past week amid heightened tensions in the Persian Gulf.

U.S. President Donald Trump, meanwhile, warned Iran that it will face destruction if it seeks a fight, while Iranian officials said their country isn’t looking for war. Trump spoke after a rocket hit near the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.

Adel al-Jubeir, the Saudi minister of state for foreign affairs, spoke a week after four oil tankers— two of them Saudi — were targeted in an alleged act of sabotage off the coast of the United Arab Emirates and days after Iran-allied Yemeni rebels claimed a drone attack on a Saudi oil pipeline.
