Iran releases 9 Indian sailors captured in tanker holdup

Iran has released nine of the 12 Indian crew members captured from a Panama-flagged tanker. Earlier, Indian officials were given consular access to Indian nationals from another Iran-held tanker, which has a British flag.

There was a total of 30 Indians among the crew members of the two tankers seized by Iranian authorities on two separate occasions this month, 12 on the MT Riah and 18 on the Stena Impero. The release of the nine sailors from the MT Riah, which was announced by the Indian government on Friday, drops the number to 21.

Earlier in the day, Tehran said Indian diplomats had been granted access to Indian nationals from the Stena Impero crew.

Iran will secure Strait of Hormuz, won’t allow any shipping disturbance: Official

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Abbas Araqchi says the Islamic Republic will strive to ensure security of the Strait of Hormuz, and will not allow any disturbance in shipping in the strategic sea passage between the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.

During a meeting with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian in Paris on Tuesday, the Iranian diplomat reiterated his country’s resolve concerning the issue.

Le Drian, for his part, said Iran has to take the necessary steps to ensure a de-escalation process in the Persian Gulf.

Araqchi’s remarks came a day after Iranian President Hassan Rouhani underlined Iran’s historical role as a preserver of maritime security in the region, saying the country has no interest in initiating tensions either here or beyond.

Iran Announces Military Will "Secure" Contested Strait Of Hormuz

Hopefully it doesn't lead to a let's roll! moment at the White House, where super-hawk national security adviser John Bolton has no doubt been itching for escalation: moments ago Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister announced military forces will "secure" the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran will "not allow disturbance in shipping in this sensitive area" Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi was quoted as saying in state media, while leading a delegation to Paris, Reuters reports. However, it's unclear at this point how far Iran is willing to go in this escalating game of chicken with the US and UK - both of which have warships and other military assets in the gulf region.

How John Bolton Bamboozled the Brits Into Conflict With Iran

Simon Tisdall at The Guardian explains the difference between Socialist Spain and the disorganized Conservatives in control of UK on foreign policy.

US national security adviser John Bolton tried to hoodwink both of them about the Grace I, a Panamanian-flagged oil tanker carrying Iranian petroleum through the Straits of Gibraltar. Spain monitored the tanker but declined to intervene because it remained in international waters. The EU position has been that unless ships headed for Syria came within 12 nautical miles of the European coast, they were helpless to take action because you can’t interfere with shipping through international waters.

Britain, in contrast, used its naval position in Gibraltar to seize the tanker in international waters on the grounds that it was headed to Syria, against which the European Union had declared an oil embargo.

London defends the shreds of its Empire against Iran

For Thierry Meyssan, the rise of tension in the Gulf has nothing to do with an alleged Iranian threat. In fact, it is the second round of Mossadegh’s anti-imperialist policy, before the mollahs. Just as in 1952, London is ready to go to war to defend its undeserved economic advantages. But if the British were to win this round, a few years later they would lose in Suez to the United States.

Trump: ‘OK’ With a War Against Iran Now

While President Trump’s position on Iran tends to change with little notice, he backed away from his insistence that he doesn’t want war with Iran on Monday, saying now of the war “it could go either way, and I’m OK either way it goes.”

Trump added that it’s “getting harder for me to want to make a deal with Iran” in the first place, because he views them as “behaving very badly,” and are “the number one state of terror in the world.”

Trump followed this up by announcing new sanctions against China, saying they were intended to punish them for “accepting crude oil.” This is likely to be a bigger problem for US-China ties than Iran, as Iran is already heavily sanctioned.

UK calls for EU-led armada in Persian Gulf over tanker tensions with Iran

The once-mighty sea power Britain has called for an “European-led maritime protection” mission in the Persian Gulf, after London and Tehran escalated tensions by seizing each other’s oil tankers.

Speaking before the Parliament on Monday, UK Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt called for a multinational fleet to “support safe passage of crew and cargo” in and out of the Gulf. He offered no details on how many ships and which countries would be involved, or how the mission would relate to Operation Sentinel, announced by US Central Command last week with the exact same objective.

Hunt’s announcement followed Iran’s seizure of a British-flagged oil tanker Stena Impero in the Strait of Hormuz citing violation of maritime traffic rules, two weeks after UK forces confiscated a tanker carrying Iranian oil off Gibraltar.

Official Says US Navy May Have Destroyed More Than One Iranian Drone in Hormuz Strait - Report

Late last week, the Pentagon claimed that a US warship in the Strait of Hormuz had destroyed an Iranian drone after it came within "threatening range." Iran denied the claims, calling US statements "quite a big lie" and saying the US might have downed one of their own drones by mistake.

The US Navy ship operating in the Strait of Hormuz which reported destroying an Iranian-operated drone last week may have actually destroyed two, an anonymous US official told Reuters.

Iran to meet with nuclear deal parties amid tanker crisis

Tehran said on Tuesday it will attend an urgent meeting with countries still party to the 2015 nuclear deal, as it declared itself the “guardian of security” in the Gulf amid a tanker crisis.

The July 28 meeting is aimed at salvaging the deal after the United States withdrew from it last year and re-imposed sanctions against Iran, AFP reported.

The nuclear deal meeting was requested by the European parties to discuss the “new situation,” Iran said, referring to its reduced nuclear commitments under the deal in response to the US withdrawal.

Iran has handed down the death penalty to alleged members of a CIA-spy ring inside Iran’s military, which authorities said they uncovered earlier this year. And now for the first time, state media is circulating photos purporting to show some among the alleged CIA-linked operatives.

They had been working “contractors or consultants,” the statement said.

Strait of Hormuz: UK Ministers Catch Heat for Seizing Iranian Tanker as Tehran Hits Back

Friday’s seizure of a British-flagged tanker off Iran's coast came two weeks after the Royal Navy detained an Iranian vessel near its Mediterranean peninsular exclave Gibraltar, further deteriorating already-poor relations between London and Tehran.

The UK government is expected to come under scrutiny for their decision to seize an Iranian oil tanker off Gibraltar two weeks ago, without ensuring that it could protect British-operated vessels sailing through the Strait of Hormuz, according to the Guardian.

Lord West, the former commander of the Royal Navy, said that the UK should not "pretend we're surprised" by the seizure of a British-flagged tanker by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps.

"What I find extraordinary is that we knew that the Iranians would try something like this a few days ago,” he told Sky News.

The Royal Navy: From Piracy to Impotence

The British foreign secretary, Jeremy Hunt, has been busy in the past 24 hours trying to deflect blame, or criticism, from the British government for inflaming tensions in the Persian Gulf.

As part of his diplomatic offensive, Hunt has accused Iran of “illegal” and “destabilizing” behaviour, all the while apparently impervious to the irony of his position.

The Iranian foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, has hit back by reminding Hunt that: “Unlike the piracy in the Strait of Gibraltar, our action in the Persian Gulf is to uphold international maritime rules”.

Diplomatic spats aside, any objective review of the facts will not fail to recognise that in recent events in the Persian Gulf and the Gibraltar Strait, the UK has engaged in illegal, and destabilising, activities on at least three occasions.

Forces in UK seek to escalate tensions ‘well beyond issue of ships’ – Iran’s envoy in London

As Tehran and London trade accusations over the seized tankers, Iran’s ambassador in London warns that certain forces in the UK aim to use the crisis to boost tensions even further.

That’s why it’s key now for the UK government to “contain those domestic political forces who want to escalate existing tension between Iran and the UK well beyond the issue of ships.”

That said, Tehran is “firm and ready for different scenarios,” Baeidinejad said.

Iran uncovers ‘CIA spy ring’ and sentences some members to death

Iran has announced that it has uncovered a “CIA spy ring” and sentenced to death some of the seventeen alleged spies who have been arrested over the past few months. The exact number of those given a death sentence has not yet been specified. The move adds another twist to the tensions between the Islamic Republic and the United States.

What makes Iran strong enough to stand against a superpower like the USA?

Today, despite the existential battle between Iran and the US, the “Islamic Republic” no longer uses religious slogans, but is instead rallying support on a national basis. Even Iranians who disagree with the present regime are supporting their country in the face of the aggressive posture of the US. Iranian pragmatists were disappointed by the US’s unlawful revocation of the JCPOA nuclear deal. Severe sanctions are being imposed on the Iranian people because Trump ditched the deal to please Netanyahu and to spite his predecessor Obama. In the face of these sanctions, the Islamic Republic refuses to bow to US dictates. Unlike other Middle Eastern countries who willingly submit to Trump’s blackmail and bullying, Iran says “NO” to the superpower. Why? How can Iran do what Saudi Arabia and other regional powers could do but will not?

Iran Urges UK To Rein In 'Deep State'; Germany Warns Of "Uncontrollable" Escalation

Iran’s ambassador in London warned on Sunday that the UK government must get its "domestic political forces" pushing for regime change under control or else the two countries will face dangerous escalation. The public statement came two days after the British-flagged Stena Impero was boarded and captured by IRGC commandos, and over two weeks after the tanker Grace 1 was seized by UK Royal Marines off Gibraltar.

Iranian Ambassador Hamid Baeidinejad urged via his personal Twitter account that continued pressure on Iran would be "unwise" given that Tehran stands “firm and ready for different scenarios”.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Iranian Ambassador Baeidinejad, I hear you; and I think that the time has come for both the British and US governments to open up intensive lines of communication between themselves, and your government, and right the heck now.

I would like to hope that your voice of reason finds "listening ears", and resonates in the Consulates of the the UK and US. The place where it most probably won't, is with the Israeli government and Saudi Arabia's monarchy.

War against your country would be incredibly stupid, on the part of the US, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the UK, in light of a Russian statement made by a high ranking diplomat at a symposium, indicating that if Iran were attacked, she would not be alone.

UK tanker hit Iranian boat, ignored its distress call before capture: Iran

Iranian authorities say the British oil tanker seized in the Strait of Hormuz was involved in an accident with an Iranian fishing boat and ignored its distress call before capture.

Allah-Morad Afifipoor, head of Ports and Maritime Organization in southern Hormozgan Province, said on Saturday that the 30,000-tonne UK-flagged Stena Impero tanker had "collided with a fishing boat on its route and, according to law, after an accident it is necessary that the causes are investigated."

Following the collision, those on board the fishing boat "contacted the British vessel but didn't receive any response," so they informed the Hormozgan maritime organization "according to the legal procedures," he added.

Afifipoor also noted that the tanker had been taken to Bandar Abbas port, where it and its crew will remain while a probe is carried out into the British vessel’s conduct.

US TO LAUNCH PLAN FOR 'FREE PASSAGE' OF SHIPS IN IRAN'S WATERWAY

SOURCE: ALJAZEERA.COM

Aspen, Colorado - The United States is concerned that a "miscalculation" by Iran could cause an "unintended conflict" in the Gulf, as it prepares to launch a new surveillance and intelligence initiative with its allies to ensure "free and open passage" for ships.

"We are starting a concept called Sentinel in which we will have a series of countries engaged to preserve the free and open passage of commerce in the Strait of Hormuz and in the Persian Gulf," US Under Secretary of Defense for Policy John Rood said at the Aspen Security Forum on Saturday.

The US has had discussions with NATO allies, some "partners in the Gulf" and others to join the effort to keep the "vital waterway" open, said Rood, adding that the new operation would "come into being over the coming days and weeks".

Webmaster's Commentary:

Please excuse me, US Under Secretary of Defense for Policy John Rood; but which of our "partners" have stepped forward to create "a coalition of the willing" here?!?

Back in May of this year, Europe told the US to "count them out" as tensions between the US and Iran started to simmer.

War With Iran? Count Us Out, Europe Says

Apparently, you "did not get the memo", from a story breaking just this last Friday, about the US's allies not wanting to create a naval force against Iran, because it might well worsen tensions: Allies resist US call for anti-Iran naval force, fearing it would worsen tensions.

And just one day ago, we had the following story break: A War with Iran Would Wreck the American Energy Market.

The Trump administration needs to do some serious soul-searching as it relates to how it thinks about energy as a whole.
by Connor Sutherland

What seems to be happening here, is that the US has become pathologically incapable, in large part due to Israel's continued (false) accusations of Iran being an existential threat, rather than an economic threat, of making credible, sensible long-term commitments to the energy sector of its economy.

And unless, and until that happens, President Trump is very contentedly putting the US on the keening edge of a war against Iran.

I mean, whatever Israel wants, Israel gets, right, Mr. President?!?

Even if this means a war with Russia, right, Mr. President?!?

And I do not know if any of your aides told you this, but back last month, toward the end of June, a top Russian diplomat made the following statement.
Iran ‘Won’t Be Alone’ If U.S. Attacks, Russian Official Says

The guy's name, just in case no one happened to mention it, is Zamir Kabulov, the Foreign Ministry’s special envoy for Asian countries including Iran, and he said this, at a Russian-Iranian policy forum in Moscow.

You're welcome, Mr. President.

And please, for the zillionth time: the US military does not have the weaponry; the troop strength; the manufacturing, or the money, to create a positive outcome to a war against Iran.

You need some people around you, who do not say, "Yes, Mr. President" when you happen, or any of your advisors, like Bolton, or Pompeo, go off half-cocked, in declaring which countries we are going to fight next, or decide that a war against this or that entity, would be "a good thing", because you have been prevailed upon to not think of the costs of war, even if the US does prevail, which, in most cases, would be both difficult and financially costly, to a nation already drowning in $+/- 23 trillion in debt.

Mr. President, you really need some people around you who will tell you the dark, ugly truth about new potential wars in the Middle East and beyond; and I will guarantee you, that two of those people are NOT your "BFFs in the Middle East, Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, the Butcher of Yemen or Israel's Netanyahu, the Butcher of Gaza, who desperately needs to distract Israel's voters from the corruption charges via a massive US/Saudi invasion of Iran, due to a snap election in September.

I would politely suggest, that you need to contact some Veterans, who have participated in the US wars against Afghanistan, and Iraq; And sir, what I am thinking, is that you will better be able to separate "the grain from the chaff", after these private, one-on- one conversations are held.

And again, you are welcome. Mr. President.

Why The United States Will Not Launch A Ground War Against Iran

In recent weeks we have seen numerous probing attempts and provocations in and around the Strait of Hormuz — whether false flags or actual events — intended to raise the profile of the US’s unilateral withdrawal from the JCPOA, and renewed US sanctions versus Iran. Iran is pushing the issue with the United States, and is apparently offering a sacrificial pawn on the board (or perhaps knight!) by seizing two British oil tankers alleged to be operating illegally in the Strait of Hormuz.

While it is too soon to predict how the United States and its allies Israel and Saudi Arabia (both sworn enemies of Iran) will react, let’s explore the reasons why any US reactionary response will be largely symbolic, even if that involves a token strike versus Iran.

Trump Is Back Under Bolton’s Thumb

President Trump might be his own man, but not when it comes to John Bolton and Israel. Trump is their man and is again being manipulated into starting a fisticuffs with Iran.

Someone in Washington, most likely Ziocon warmonger Bolton, got the UK to commit an act of piracy on the high seas and seize an Iranian oil tanker, Grace 1, on the grounds that Iran intended to deliver the oil to Syria in violation of US sanctions.

Iran’s leader, Khamenei, denounced Washington’s British stooge for “maritime banditry” and said there would be consequences. Today there were. Iran detained two British tankers.

This is what Bolton and Netanyahu wanted. They used it to wind up Trump’s fulminations against Iran. The trouble that the idiot British started with Iran is no concern of ours, but Trump’s threats are nevertheless issuing at a rapid pace.

Iran forces say they seized British-flagged oil tanker in Gulf as tensions escalate

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said on Friday they had captured a British-flagged oil tanker in the Gulf after Britain seized an Iranian vessel earlier this month, further raising tensions along a vital international oil shipping route.

Britain said it was urgently seeking information about the Stena Impero after the tanker, which had been heading to a port in Saudi Arabia, suddenly changed course after passing through the Strait of Hormuz at the mouth of the Gulf.

The Revolutionary Guards said they seized the tanker at the request of Iranian maritime authorities for “not following international maritime regulations,” state television reported.

How Corporate Media Are Fueling a New Iran Nuclear Crisis

The U.S. news media’s coverage of the Iran nuclear issue has been woefully off-kilter for many years. Now, however, those same outlets are contributing to the serious crisis building between Washington and Tehran.

Iran has responded to Trump’s withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal by resuming the stockpiling of low enriched uranium, removing the cap on the level of uranium enrichment and resuming work at the Arak nuclear reactor, while making it very clear that those steps would be immediately reversed if the United States agreed to full compliance.

US Preparing to Deploy Additional Troops to Saudi Arabia Amid Spat With Iran – Report

Tensions between Washington and Tehran have escalated in the last few months as Iran withdraws from voluntary obligations under the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) nuclear deal and the US builds up its military presence in the Middle East under the pretext of “the Iranian threat.”

The US president’s administration is reportedly prepared to send its military personnel to Saudi Arabia, according to CNN, citing two unnamed defence officials.

According to the report, five hundred troops are slated to be deployed to the Prince Sultan Air Base, located to the east of the country’s capital of Riyadh.

The US troops will reportedly become reinforcements to the US military and support personnel already on the site with beginning preparations for a Patriot surface-to-air missile system, a runway and other airfield improvements.

PAUL OF PERSIA: Rand Paul Emerges as President Trump’s New Peacekeeping Force in Iran

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) recently proposed to President Donald Trump that he should take a larger role in negotiating with Iran during a golf outing, a notion that Trump apparently supports, in order to prevent another endless war from starting in the Middle East.

Paul wants to sit down with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif in order to ease tensions with the Islamic Republic, which has been confirmed by four U.S. officials according to Politico. This news has enraged the neocon war hawks in the Trump administration, who want a wedge to remain between the two nations preventing any talks.

Iran seizes oil tanker for “smuggling” — but no one knows which ship?

With tensions already high around the Strait of Hormuz, the Iranians have upped the ante … or at least so they say.

Their state media reported that the IRGC had seized a tanker on a mission to smuggle oil through the Persian Gulf. The seizure reportedly took place in Iranian waters, and the ship was “foreign,” according to the Iranians:

The statement says the tanker was carrying 1 million liters of smuggled oil that it had picked up from small Iranian ships and was sailing towards foreign ships with it. The ship was seized south of Lark Island in the Strait of Hormuz, the IRGC statement quoted by Fars says.

“During the patrolling mission in the Persian Gulf aiming at the discovery and confrontation with organized smuggling on Sunday, 14th of July2019, the IRGC’s first region navy patrol made the seizure of a foreign vessel in surprise after it made sure the vessel was carrying one million liters smuggled fuel.

Iran Is Not Our Enemy

Despite what all the media are yammering at you, despite all the fear mongering about Iran's "nuclear threat" (Iran has been fully verified by the IAEA and ALL the U.S. intelligence community agree and are on record that Iran is not pursuing nuclear weapons), despite talk that Iran is intolerant, despite the daily barrage of bad press and unpleasant innuendo, Iran is a great country, friendly, cultured, fun and spiritually-minded!

The "Powers That Were" are dead set on taking us to war against Iran, but "They lied about Vietnam... Iraq...Afghanistan..." and "Iran Is NOT Our Enemy ! " :-)

Iran Claims It Rescued "Missing" UAE Tanker After US Said IRGC "Forced" It Toward Iran

The saga of the UAE "mystery" tanker which seems to have disappeared after its transponder went dark late Saturday night, and which no one has heard from since it drifted toward Iranian waters in the Strait of Hormuz over the weekend, has deepened after Iran contradicted US media reports of IRGC involvement.

The semi-official news agency ISNA said hours after initial reports on Tuesday suggested Iran's military "forced" the vessel into Iranian waters that Iranian navy vessels actually came to the assistance of the disabled foreign oil tanker. The statement indicated the vessel was partially disabled and in desperate need of repairs.

"(Spokesman) Abbas Mousavi said... that an international oil tanker was in trouble due to a technical fault in the Persian Gulf... After receiving a request for assistance, Iranian forces approached it and used a tugboat to pull it toward Iranian waters for the necessary repairs to be carried out," ISNA said, as cited by Reuters.

Iran comes to assistance of disabled foreign oil tanker in Persian Gulf

The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry says the country’s naval forces have assisted a foreign crude oil tanker in the Persian Gulf, after they received a request for help from the vessel.

Seyyed Abbas Mousavi told IRIB News late on Tuesday that the tanker suffered a technical glitch, and accordingly sent a distress call.

He added that Iranian forces rushed to the scene after receiving the call, and tug boats assisted the disabled vessel and towed it towards Iranian territorial waters to undergo required repair.

Iran opens first alumina plant in blow to US sanctions

Iran has brought online its first alumina refinery, marking a milestone in its production of the strategic metal and cushioning blows from unilateral US sanctions.

The first phase of the Jajarm refinery commenced operation with a capacity to produce 40,000 tonnes per year of alumina which is the key metallic input derived from bauxite used to smelt aluminum.

Jajarm in North Khorasan province holds Iran’s largest deposit of bauxite - the raw material used to make aluminum.

Europe Circumvents U.S. Sanctions On Iran

Europe has found a way of circumventing U.S. sanctions on Iran. The governments of France, Germany and the United Kingdom have developed a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to enable European businesses to maintain non-dollar trade with Iran without breaking U.S. sanctions. That SPV, known as INSTEX, is now up and running.

The three governments announced the successful implementation of INSTEX at a meeting of the Joint Commission of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on June 28, 2019. The meeting was chaired on behalf of the EU by the Secretary General of the European External Action Service (EEAS), Helga Schmid, and was attended by representatives of China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, and Iran.

Trump: US Not Seeking Regime Change in Iran

Speaking during a cabinet meeting, President Trump once again reiterated that the US is not in any way seeking regime change in Iran, but rather that his entire goal is “they can’t have a nuclear weapon.“

Trump further claimed a lot of progress, as well he might, since Iran wasn’t seeking a nuclear weapon int he first place, and has repeatedly said as much in recent days. If indeed that’s the only US goal, it effectively has already been achieved.

Of course, US officials are still pushing the need for talks with Iran, and Acting Defense Secretary Mark Esper urged the US to get “back on the diplomatic channel” with Iran. That’s a recurring refrain from officials, even if it’s not clear what they’ll accept from Iran after the repeated assurances not to get a nuclear weapon didn’t placate US hawks.

US, Iran Send Conflicting Signals on Possible Missile Talks

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has claimed that Iran has signaled a willingness to negotiate on the matter of ballistic missiles. Other US officials aren’t so sure, and Iranian officials are also telling conflicting stories on the matter.

“Iran’s missiles are absolutely and under no condition negotiable with anyone or any country,” insisted Alireza Miryousefi, the spokesman for Iran’s UN Mission. That is certainly the position Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has long taken.

Yet Pompeo’s belief that talks are possible didn’t come out of thin air. Rather, Foreign Minister Javad Zarif suggested in the US was willing to cut off arms sales to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, Iran’s missiles might also be up for negotiation.

That’s probably a non-starter,with President Trump so obsessed with growing arms sales, but does point to a grand bargain potentially being on the table, if both sides want it. The problem is, neither side is being very clear if they want it or not.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Any possibility of a real deal, will most likely be scotched by Pompeo and Bolton, who both would rather see the US at war with Iran for Israel, than any move toward accommodation and threat-reduction.

And there is is something both gentlemen are really good at not seeing; this is The "Russian Option", and made very clear through the announcement of one top Russian official a couple of weeks ago: Zamir Kabulov: the Foreign Ministry’s special envoy for Asian countries including Iran, has said that Iran will not be alone, if the US attacks it.

Iran says US ending arms sales to Middle East would open ‘hypothetical’ path towards missile talks

Tehran has clarified a remark made by its foreign minister, stating that the US ending weapon sales to the Middle East would be a purely hypothetical scenario in which Iran might consider negotiations over its missile program.

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif suggested during an interview with NBC that if the US was interested in discussing the Islamic Republic’s missile program, “they need first to stop selling all these weapons, including missiles, to our region.”

HOW ISRAELI-DESIGNED DRONES BECAME RUSSIA’S EYES IN THE SKY FOR DEFENDING BASHAR AL-ASSAD

How Israeli-designed drones ended up supporting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is a case study in the complicated relationship between Israel and Russia. Though Russia has been instrumental in protecting the Assad government, which appeared to be on the brink of collapse four years ago, it has also carefully cultivated a military relationship with Israel over the past decade.

After more than seven years of war, the skies over Syria are saturated with aircraft from multiple militaries and armed groups, each pursuing their own goals, including using the country as a weapons-testing ground. American airpower and Kurdish ground forces helped grind the Islamic State’s caliphate down to a tiny pocket before it dramatically collapsed this past spring. Meanwhile, Turkish occupation forces and their proxies are conducting a brutal campaign of repression in the Syrian-Kurdish canton of Afrin.

MSM Lies About Iran Deal and Repeats Unfound State Department Claims

Iran announced last week they will be enriching uranium to 5% which is over the 3.67% limit set by the Joint Comprehension Plan of Action signed in 2015 under the Obama administration. Iran has every right to go over that cap, since the US pulled out of the deal over a year ago and reinstated crippling sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

But if you look at headlines in the mainstream media, you would never know Iran was exercising its right as per the JCPOA.

Pompeo’s Big Lie on Iran

In a tiff over whether Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his delegation would be permitted to enter the United States as part of a meeting of the United Nations and over whether they would be free to travel freely around New York City, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told a whopper, one that might have even embarrassed Pinocchio. Expressing a desire to be invited to appear on Iranian television, Pompeo said that he would tell Iranians that “we care deeply about them, that we’re supportive of the Iranian people, that we understand that the revolutionary theocracy is not acting in a way that is in their best interest.”

Why, that’s just a lie, a plain old, downright, old-fashioned lie.

Sailing through the Strait of Hormuz, an Emirates-based oil tanker has vanished (from the radar). With the strait a flashpoint for US-Iran tensions, is Tehran to blame?

The Panamanian-flagged oil tanker ‘Riah’ usually transits oil from Dubai and Sharjah to Fujairah, a trip of just under 200 nautical miles that takes a tanker like this just over a day and a half at sea. it reported its position off the coast of Dubai on July 7.

Netanyahu compares EU approach to Iran with ‘appeasement’ of Nazi Germany before WWII

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has compared Europe’s attitude to Iran with the 1930s appeasement of Nazi Germany, after the EU foreign policy chief said Tehran’s enrichment breach wouldn’t trigger the Iran deal’s dispute mechanism.

The EU’s high representative Federica Mogherini said on Monday that the bloc did not regard Tehran’s recent breaches of the 2015 nuclear deal as being “significant” enough to set an official dispute in motion.

Mogherini said that none of the remaining parties to the accord had signaled any intention to invoke the JCPOA’s dispute article, which means that, so far, “none of them” think that Iran’s non-compliance “is considered to be significant non-compliance.”

Netanyahu lashed out at Europe’s response, saying in a video statement that it was even comparable to appeasement and failed diplomacy with Nazi Germany before the outbreak of World War II.

After Alleged UK Tanker Incident in Persian Gulf, EU Powers Threaten Iran

US and UK military sources claim that Iranian boats intercepted a British oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz Wednesday, before a British warship, the HMS Montrose, chased them off.

None of the reports about this incident can be taken at face value. Iran has flatly denied that it took place, and US officials making allegations have not posted videos they claim to have of it. It comes amid a US-led war drive targeting Iran, after Washington unilaterally suspended the 2015 Iranian nuclear accord, launched a major military buildup in the region, and demanded that US allies support it. Yet before anything firm is known about this incident, a press campaign has started in Europe, demanding that the European powers back Washington against Iran.

Iran To UK: We'll Continue Oil Exports "Under Any Conditions" As Detained Tanker Crew Released

As the "tanker wars" continue Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif warned his British counterpart Jeremy Hunt in a telephone call on Saturday that Iran plans to continue its oil exports "under any conditions".

Zarif also repeated Iranian demands for the UK to release the Grace 1 oil tanker, seized over a week ago after it was boarded by Royal Marines off Gibraltar. It had been carrying 2 million barrels of Iranian oil and was alleged to have been bound for Syria, in violation of EU sanctions; however, Tehran has accused the UK of fundamentally doing the United States' bidding.

In a public statement posted to Twitter, Hunt informed Zarif that the UK would release the tanker if it received guarantees it would not go to Syria.

Idiots Driving World to War

Like a person going up in an escalator while asserting they are going down, the British foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt has a bizarre way of trying to assure Iran that war is not on the cards.

Hunt, who is vying to become Britain’s new prime minister, stated on camera that “he wants to de-escalate” the danger of a military confrontation with Iran over mounting tensions in the Persian Gulf.

That was only days after he vowed to dramatically increase Britain’s military spending and in particular, boost the country’s naval firepower – citing Iran as the main threat to British commercial shipping interests.

Strait of Hormuz: The Most Dangerous Place on Earth

For the next 60 days, the 90-mile length of waterway known as the Strait of Hormuz will be the most dangerous place on Earth, with the prospects for an incident occurring which will trigger a regional conflict possessing global ramifications high. Following this 60-day period, the risks will only grow higher.

On July 1, Iran announced that it was exceeding some of the uranium enrichment restrictions put in place by the Joint Comprehensive Program of Action, or JCPOA (better known as the Iran nuclear agreement), which the U.S. withdrew from a year ago.

The decision to blow through the restriction were a response to Washington’s “maximum pressure” campaign to to negotiate a new deal. This campaign has included the resumption of crippling economic sanctions, including the implementation of so-called “secondary sanctions” which target nations and companies that do business with Iran in violation of the embargoes.

As Booker’s biggest donor, NORPAC contributed $185,871 to Booker’s campaign committee in 2018, a cycle in which Booker wasn’t even up for election.

Washington is accusing Iran of breaching the 2015 deal on its nuclear program, which is more than ironic, considering that the US was the first to abandon the agreement altogether, Lee Camp said on his show, Redacted Tonight.

The White House has been blasting Iran for starting to partially suspend its obligations under the nuclear agreement, known as the JCPOA. Tehran had warned it would do that, unless the Europeans can negotiate relief from the US sanctions on Iran.

TRUMP, BRITS TIRELESS IN ATTEMPT TO GET WAR ON IRAN GOING

SOURCE: KURT NIMMO
On Thursday evening, social media posts claimed the UK flagged and Japanese owned crude oil tanker Atlantic Pioneer had crossed over into Iranian territorial waters. According to the Marine Traffic website, on Friday morning the tanker was in the Gulf of Oman.

BREAKING: #UK flagged ship, #AtlanticPioneer, has officially entered recognized #Iran|ian waters. Time to see what Iran does, if anything. pic.twitter.com/gn05YCtUAe

— Evan McLean (@TheEvanMcLean) July 12, 2019

I don’t know if these social media reports are accurate, but considering the recent behavior of the US and Britain, I cannot discount it. The US, with the help of the UK, is attempting to goad the Iranians into taking action and thus providing a pretext to get the next neocon war going.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I have this image in my head, of President Trump, meeting with his cabinet, and saying,"Damn! We can't lie the American people into another war; so what the hell do we do to get this party started, with some kind of false flag that the Americans might actually believe, as a justification for this war against Iran?!?"

Google reminds us with the following statement regarding Israel's next elections, as to just how critical they are in developing, and shaping, both national, and international Israeli policies:

"Snap legislative elections are due to be held in Israel on 17 September 2019 to elect the 120 members of the 22nd Knesset. Following the prior elections in April, incumbent and Prime Minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu failed to form a governing coalition, the first such failure in Israeli history."f

So am quite certain, looking at today's date (12 July), that Israel's Netanyahu, is burning up the phone lines from Tel Aviv to DC, impressing on Trump how damned short the time frame is, for getting such a war going, as to make Netanyahu look "butch" in anticipation of September's snap election in Israel.

I am equally as certain, that Russia's President Putin, and Iran's President Rouhani, are talking to each other about how to calm the situation down, and for Iran not to lash out, if there is an attempt at a false flag.

I'm looking at timing here. The last major summer holiday in the US, at the end of August, is Labor Day weekend, which this year, starts on Friday, 31 August, and lasts through Monday, 2 September. IF the US, the UK, and Israel cannot get a war on or before that point in time, so that the US media can fully indoctrinate the public with it; have it soak into the consciousness of both the American (and British) people before the first full week in September, it may well be too late for such an attack to begin to influence Netanyahu's re-election bid.

Ceasefire Over? Trump Demands New Sanctions On Beijing Over Iranian Oil Imports

Once again, it appears Robert Lighthizer and the Trump Administration's trade hawk faction have won over the more moderate advisors. Only a week ago, reports surfaced claiming the US might exempt China from Iran sanctions, for fear that the US would have no choice but to crack down otherwise (since Beijing has made clear exactly how it feels about Washington dictating which countries it can trade with).

Now, that idea, which was being pushed by senior State Department officials, has been abandoned, according to a Politico report. Instead, senior administration officials believe there's no avoiding the fact that Beijing has repeatedly violated the ban on importing Iranian crude.

Webmaster's Commentary:

No, Beijing isn't "defying" the US; it needs Iranian oil to prop up its industrial sector.

So what is President Trump going to do about it now, start boarding Chinese vessels, and interdict Iranian oil?!? Let's see now... isn't that tantamount to declaring war against China?!?

What is frustrating here, is that with the situations concerning both China and Iran, President Trump has managed to give himself no "wiggle room" for something positive to happen, and that, friends, is a "fantastic failure of imagination".

Britain Raises Ship Security Level to ‘Critical’ as Tanker Row With Iran Escalates - Report

Over the past two days, British oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and Persian Gulf have reportedly been spotted under escort by Royal Navy vessels. Although the reason for this has not been officially explained, the situation comes amid threats by Tehran to seize British ships in response to the arrest of its tanker in Gibraltar.

The UK Department for Transport has issued a recommendation to British commercial ships near the Strait of Hormuz to exercise caution and put their security in a heightened state in case they are approached by "aggressive" Iranian patrol boats, Sky News reported, citing anonymous sources.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Let's throw in a little logic, shall we; why would Iran be so desperately attempting to "create an incident", when they understood that such an act would be the US/Israeli/Saudi Arabia "justification" for a shooting war against Iran?!?

The short answer is, they wouldn't.

Iranian leadership is many things; but stupid, it is not.

Lies About Iran Killing US Troops in Iraq Are a Ploy to Justify War

One of the many myths that have been used to justify the push for war with Iran led by National Security Adviser John Bolton and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is that Tehran is responsible for the killing of more than 600 U.S. troops during the Iraq War.

Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook, whose job is to round up international support for the Trump administration’s campaign of “maximum pressure” on Iran, presented the charge at a State Department press briefing on April 2. “I can announce today, based on declassified US military reports,” Hook said, “that Iran is responsible for the deaths of 608 American service members. This accounts for 17 percent of all deaths of US personnel in Iraq from 2003 to 2011.”

Iran Denies Trying To Seize UK Tanker In Persian Gulf After Military Close Encounter

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) denied reports that their patrol boats tried to stop a British oil tanker in the Persian Gulf, with IRGC’s naval unit stating that "there were no encounters between the Iranian warships and foreign vessels at the time when the incident is alleged to have taken place," according to Fars News.

The IRGC also reiterated that they are prepared to “act swiftly and decisively” should they receive an order to capture any foreign ship.

London said three Iranian patrol boats attempted to stop its oil tanker, ‘British Heritage,’ as it was sailing through the Strait of Hormuz to the Persian Gulf. According to the British government statement, the Iranian vessels were forced to back away after receiving a warning from the Royal Navy frigate, HMS ‘Monrose,’ which was escorting another tanker in the area.

UK Tanker Given Military Escort Amid Iran's Promise to Respond to Ship Seizure - Report

Tehran has vowed to take reciprocal steps after British authorities last week seized a tanker while it was passing Gibraltar under the pretext that it was carrying Iranian oil to Syria. London claims that it had the right to do so, as the tanker was allegedly violating the sanctions regime imposed by the EU on Damascus.

The British oil tanker Pacific Voyager, which recently sailed through the Strait of Hormuz, was apparently accompanied by a UK military vessel during its passage, the Marine Traffic tracking service showed on 9 July. Later, the British warship stopped following the tanker, but was soon replaced by a NATO military vessel in the Gulf of Oman.

Top Commander Warns of Iran's Reciprocal Response to Britain's Seizure of Oil Tanker

Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri described seizure of Iran's oil tanker in the Strait of Gibraltar by Britain as a move to retaliate against the downing of a US spy drone by the IRGC, warning London of Tehran's reciprocal move.

"This move will not remain unanswered and if necessary, a response to this abject act will come on agenda at an appropriate time and place," General Baqeri said in Tehran on Tuesday.

He said the Iranian oil tanker has been seized as a response to the recent downing of a US spy drone by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), as Iran's missile, marine and air defense power has challenged enemies' strong point in areas of air and defense power.

General Baqeri said that the Iranian Armed Forces are ready to give a timely response to any hostile moves by enemies.

‘Sad irony’: Rouhani mocks US for calling emergency meeting on Iran nuclear deal...which it left

“On one side, Americans described the JCPOA as the worst possible deal and withdraw from it without any excuse and on the other side, when Iran reduces its commitments to the deal, they all express concern; while all should concern about US that has violated the whole deal,” Rouhani said during a Wednesday cabinet session as cited by the Mehr News agency.

“They have called for an emergency meeting of [the] Board of Governors, asking why Iran has abandoned some of its JCPOA commitments. This is a funny story that US is following and such measures are rare in the world’s political history,” Rouhani added.

The president also called out what he alleged was US hypocrisy over uranium enrichment when the US is the only country in history to have ever deployed nuclear weapons in an offensive capacity.

NETANYAHU THREATENS IRAN WITH ISRAELI PLANES THAT CAN ‘REACH EVERYWHERE’ IN THE MIDDLE EAST

SOURCE: RT

As tension mounts over Iran’s nuclear program, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned Tehran that Israeli warplanes can strike anywhere in the Middle East, “including Iran and Syria.”

“Iran has threatened recently to destroy Israel,” Netanyahu said in a video clip posted on Tuesday. “It is worthwhile for them to remember that these planes can reach everywhere in the Middle East, including Iran and Syria.”

Netanyahu delivered his stern lecture while standing in front of an F-35 fighter jet at Nevatim Airbase in central Israel. The Israeli Air Force has used its warplanes to strike supposed Iranian and Hezbollah targets in Syria numerous times, most recently pounding the cities of Damascus and Homs at the beginning of July – attacks that left multiple civilians dead. Last year, Israel became the world’s first military power to use the next-generation F-35 in a combat operation, reportedly against Iranian targets in Syria.

Webmaster's Commentary:

These threats, and counter-threats, are absolutely the last thing this region needs.

Netanyahu is pushing, and hyping, the Iranian threat, as though war was something Iran wants, or needs, militarily, which is absolutely not the case here.

Netanyahu understands this, but has been using the "fear card" against his own people for so long, that his behaviour has simply become pathological, at this point.

But faced with a snap election mid-September, his hope is that he can persuade/trick the US and possibly Saudi Arabia, to attack Iran, without personally, or nationally, having to pay either a political, or financial "price", and that he will appear to have "done something" to get him re-elected, no matter the costs to American and Saudi troops in blood and money spent.

We ran a story yesterday, from zerohedge.com, titled UAE's Yemen Exit is a Preparation for Confronting Iran Closer To Home

The fact that this repositioning is happening at all, telegraphs that the the Ziohawkonoids are attempting to move heaven and earth to start this war with Iran just as soon as possible.

There is, however, one 6,000 lb gorilla, napping, draped across the Bosendorfer Grand in this scenario, and that is the presence of Russia.

On 26 June, Foreign Ministry Diplomat, Zamir Kabulov, made the following statement: Iran won't be alone, if the US attacks

Were I any member of President Trump's Cabinet, or Advisory staff, I would definitely take this man at his word.

Egypt Seizes Tanker Carrying Iranian Crude

Tehran's threats of retaliation against the UK for seizing a tanker carrying Iranian crude oil for export have prompted a British vessel to shelter in the Gulf, but the rest of the world doesn't seem to be taking them too seriously.

Citing local press reports, Middle East Monitor said Tuesday that a Ukrainian tanker carrying Iranian oil as it passed through the Suez Canal ten days ago was seized by the Egyptian government, just as Egypt's State Security Criminal Court was sentencing six people to lengthy jail terms allegedly for spying for Iran.

Egypt is a staunch ally of the US, and as a Sunni-majority country, would naturally align with the UAE and Saudi Arabia in their efforts to contain Iran. Egypt also supports the Saudi-backed coalition in Yemen that is fighting to retain control in that country's brutal civil war. Cairo has condemned the Houthis for the recent spate of attacks on Saudi infrastructure that have inflamed tensions in the region.

Webmaster's Commentary:

With tensions escalating between Iran and Iran, and the US government reeling, regarding numerous problems on the horizon which have nothing to do with the current US government, (but involve some INCREDIBLY salacious actions by former members of this government, "Epstein-gate"), I have a sense that the Ziohawkonoids are going to push forward on a US attack against Iran, in terms of getting it going at the earliest possible opportunity.

Because if ever Washington's elite needed a war as a distraction from these nasty situations, it is right the heck now.

There is only one minor problem here; we may well be looking at Russia jumping into the fray on Iran's side, and, in fact, here's the following statement from a Russian official who essentially said just that:
Russia Says Iran ‘Won’t Be Alone’ If US AttacksThe story goes on to state:

"“Iran will withstand this type of fight and Iran is not alone,” Zamir Kabulov, the Foreign Ministry’s special envoy for Asian countries including Iran, said at a Russian-Iranian policy forum in Moscow, reported The Moscow Times.

Now, I don't know about you, but if I were any members of President Trump's cabinet, or advisors, I would absolutely take this guy at his word.
