GORDON DUFF: Our Unreported Cold War With Israel

OUR UNREPORTED ”COLD WAR” WITH ISRAEL

9/11 was like Pearl Harbor to America, uniting many, awakening bitter skepticism in a few. Where Pearl Harbor began America’s official role in crushing the Fascist juggernaut that threatened to dominate the world, 9/11 had quite the opposite effect. America’s response to 9/11 was oppression at home and a tirade of frenzied phobic reactions around the world. No American institution suffered more than the military. The team of Cheney and Rumsfeld, together since the disastrous Nixon years, began a process of purging America’s military of talent and leadership, instead building a force to serve a sinister agenda of religious heresy and extremist politics.

Qualitative Military Edge — another name for Israeli brutality backed by the US

Qualitative Military Edge — another name for Israeli brutality backed by the US
by Paul Woodward on July 19, 2010
On October 15, 2008, just three weeks before the US presidential election, George Bush signed into law the Naval Vessel Transfer Act which had been sponsored by one of Israel’s most loyal supporters in the US Congress, Rep. Howard Berman.
The new law, which from its title might have been assumed to relate primarily to the sale of ships from the US Navy to foreign governments, actually had a much more important purpose: to place every American president under a legal obligation to ensure that Israel maintains its military dominance over the Middle East.

Military war tactics return home with US gangs' soldiers

'Scary' growth of gangs in war zones
Chicago cop who served in Afghanistan and Iraq has warning: Gang members are coming home with military training
July 18, 2010
BY FRANK MAIN Staff Reporter
Stoleson, who stressed he was not speaking for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections or the Army, said it appears the problem is worse than ever. He warned that soldiers who return to gang life back home are especially dangerous because they know military tactics that they can use against the police and the public -- as a Marine did in 2005 when he killed a police officer and wounded three others in a California ambush.
"Gang members are coming home now with one or two tours," he said. "Some were on the field of battle."

Feds find Multiple Methane , Oil Leaks From BOP and Sea Floor

Despite Multiple Methane And Oil Leaks From BOP and Sea Floor Feds Allow BP To Risk Uncontrolled BP Gulf Oil Spill Blowout
by Alexander Higgins - July 19, 2010 at 1:47 pm
As the condition of BP’s leaking oil well continues to deteriorate rapidly BP has tried desperately to prevent the Federal Government from monitoring the sea floor for oil and methane leaks.
But yesterday the Feds finally moved in with their own ships and equipment to monitor the sea floor.
The Government almost immediately found oil leaking from the sea floor along with multiple methane leaks but did not immediately inform the public of their findings.
However, it didn’t take long before an “anonymous government official” leaked the those findings to the media.

Raw Story: DC’s spy establishment in panic mode over Washington Post expose

Washington's intelligence establishment appears to be in panic mode over an upcoming Washington Post series about runaway growth in defense and intelligence spending.

A State Department email has accused the Post of planning to make public "top secret" information about defense and intelligence contractors working for the US, despite an admission in the same email that the Post's information came from "open sources."

BP says seep detected in Gulf may not be from its well

Oil giant BP Plc said a seep detected in the Gulf of Mexico may not be related to its blown out Macondo well, which has caused the biggest offshore oil spill in U.S. history.

Afghanistan — Can General Petraeus turn the tide in Kandahar?

By Khalil Nouri – Veterans Today

The southern city of Kandahar, the last Afghan territory to be handed over by the British in 1830, was also known as the center of greatest resistance to the Russian occupation in the 1980’s. Today it measures as the epicenter of intense political competition, drug trafficking and an operational nightmare for a U.S. led counterinsurgency campaign; once again proving its historic destiny as a make-or-break location for another Afghan war.

WaPo Will Commit Treason Monday/National Security Staff Warned

National Security Information to Be Leaked in Series of Reports
Quinn Hillyer at Washington Times found out Friday. He prints a warning letter which has gone out from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, telling them to do whatever necessary to protect staff in sensitive positions.
It’s outrageous that WaPo would “stretch” to endanger national security and personnel, but it’s certainly not the first time. Or even the 2nd time. Where will the Obama Department of Justice stand on this act of treason?
It’s a felony to do so, just ask Bush advisor Scooter Libby who was prosecuted (wrongly) under federal law

The U.S. Middle Class Is Being Wiped Out Here's the Stats to Prove It

The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer at a staggering rate. Once upon a time, the United States had the largest and most prosperous middle class in the history of the world, but now that is changing at a blinding pace.

The reality is that no matter how smart, how strong, how educated or how hard working American workers are, they just cannot compete with people who are desperate to put in 10 to 12 hour days at less than a dollar an hour on the other side of the world. After all, what corporation in their right mind is going to pay an American worker 10 times more (plus benefits) to do the same job?

Scary' growth of gangs in war zones

Being in a street gang is now forbidden for members of the U.S. armed forces. But you might not guess that if you were to visit U.S. military bases in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to soldiers who have recently served there.

Congress eventually banned members of the military from belonging to street gangs. And last November, the Defense Department added the ban to its rules.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder just how many gang members were - or are currently in - the US military before the ban took effect just last November.

Schwarzenegger mobilizes National Guard to border

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Friday mobilized members of the California National Guard as part of a federal effort to deter drug trafficking and illegal immigration along the border with Mexico.

His order supports President Barack Obama's plan to have 1,200 National Guard troops assist with federal border protection, customs and immigration agents.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If the governors of all border states stood up to the plate with similar mobilizations, perhaps the states would be able to do the job the Federal government is unwilling or unable to do.

Changing Stance, Administration Now Defends Insurance Mandate as a Tax

When Congress required most Americans to obtain health insurance or pay a penalty, Democrats denied that they were creating a new tax. But in court, the Obama administration and its allies now defend the requirement as an exercise of the government’s “power to lay and collect taxes.”

And that power, they say, is even more sweeping than the federal power to regulate interstate commerce.

Administration officials say the tax argument is a linchpin of their legal case in defense of the health care overhaul and its individual mandate, now being challenged in court by more than 20 states and several private organizations.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This alleged "health care" bill was never about health care; it was only about extracting more tax dollars out of We the People, period, end of discussion.

GORDON DUFF: TIME TO END AMERICAN OCCUPATION OF MIDDLE EAST

Even Imaginary Enemies Can Get Tired

For the last decade, America has been shuffling its entire military, including hundreds of thousands of private contractors, in and out of the Middle East on little more than a “snipe hunt.” Time for a reality check. Iraq never attacked the US. Reports say Al Qaeda may have fewer than 30 men in Afghanistan.

The Taliban has been asking for a cease fire for months. Turkey and Brazil negotiated a nuclear deal with Iran ending any possible threat, one we strangely, very strangely ignored. “Thermo-nuclear Israel’s” continual whining and manipulation is wearing thin. America’s economy, her Army and her suffering veterans demand an end to our Bush era phony war.

NATO: Whoring Itself To American Imperialism

Where the US claims its presence in Iraq and Afghanistan is only temporary the massive infrastructures established in these countries in the form of military bases belies this claim. They are not dispensing “Enduring Freedom” but an enduring presence and Afghanistan and Iraq are only the most recent franchises in a global network of over 700 US military bases.

Imperialism is a very expensive game and has left America the most indebted country in the world. It is fighting foreign wars with borrowed money on borrowed time. It then becomes necessary to defray the costs of this cretinous extravagance by coercing allies, namely NATO, into being the whores of US imperialism all too willing to cough up cash and lives in a sorely corrupted cause for despicable motives.

Robert Fisk: They're all grovelling and you can guess the reason

For that was the collective sin of Misses Nasr and Guy. What they said might have made Israel's supporters angry. And that will never do. The reality is that CNN should have told Israel's lobbyists to get lost, and the Foreign Office – which was indeed upbraided by the Israeli foreign ministry – should have asked the Israeli government when it is going to stop thieving Arab land. But as my old mate Rami Khoury put it in the Jordanian press this week, "We in the Middle East are used to this sort of racist intellectual terrorism. American and British citizens who occasionally dare to speak accurately about the Middle East and its people are still learning about the full price of the truth when Israeli interests are in the room."

JEFF GATES: Another Israeli Operation?

Does Event Honoring Israeli Spy Suggest Another Israeli Operation?

Less than two weeks prior to the mass murder of September 11, 2001, the Israeli government made a $1 million grant to Israeli super-spy Jonathan Pollard. In retrospect, the facts suggest that grant may well have served as a signal to Israeli operatives inside the U.S.

On July 13, 2010, in observance of Pollard’s 9000th day of incarceration, the Jerusalem municipality dimmed the lights illuminating the Old City. This gesture of Israeli solidarity included a projection onto the darkened walls of a message urging that President Obama release their spy from prison.

Thus the concern among knowledgeable intelligence operatives that this Pollard commemoration may mean that another Israeli operation is underway.

Welcome to Hell: An open letter to Mr. Clint Guidry of South Louisiana
By Pubali Ray Chaudhuri

This letter is sent as a wake-up call to all the Americans who are now feeling -- and rightfully so -- shafted by a system that has already cut large swaths of devastation in the world outside the U.S. (Yes, contrary to what many Americans think, there is a world outside the U.S.)... We are surprised, for instance, that hell should have come to South Louisiana. We understand when other nations struggle with high unemployment, food riots, chronic poverty, appalling rates of child malnutrition. That’s them. Those poor, benighted, backward nations. (Underneath is the unspoken assumption: it’s their own damn fault for not managing their affairs better).

Psychopaths in the Gulf

We have not learned what to do about the world's psychopaths so we will see our civilization ripped asunder. Psychopaths and sociopaths have little choice but to hurt others as well as the environment because it is in their very nature to do so. These vicious individuals and the institutions they manage are at war with the peoples of the world and there is little defense against them. The very nature of our civilization encourages these people to seek the pinnacles of power and they certainly found just that inside the oil companies.

Obamacare Begins – In Idaho

When the Regime sets prices, this is called "applied compassion."

When producers organize to complain about price controls, and then freely decide not to offer their services at the artificially low price, this is called "a criminal conspiracy to fix prices."

This is the central claim of the "consent decree" inflicted, at gunpoint, on a group of Idaho orthopedic surgeons by the Obama Regime – with the eager collaboration of the Idaho State Attorney General. Under the terms of that extorted agreement, it would be tantamount to a criminal offense for a doctor to complain to his peers about regulatory actions that may drive accomplished medical specialists out of business.

NEW YORK, N.Y. - There were cheers and hollers aboard the Iroquois Nationals lacrosse team bus on Thursday as the players geared up for a very different encounter than what they had planned for Day 1 of the World Lacrosse Championships in England.

Instead, with the Statue of Liberty in the background, team members got into uniform and filed out of the bus to pose for a gaggle of journalists and repeat their case for a few TV cameras: They should be allowed into England for the games using their Iroquois-issued passports. Police strangled me, punched me in head, manhandled me (peaceful protester at the G20)

As the van began moving and the door to the van closed, the two thugs in the back seat pulled me around so that I was laying face up with my head almost in between the passenger and driver seat. As they were doing so, Thug A was punching me in the stomach, just hard enough to shock someone who is delicate but not hard enough to harm me. As they punched me and turned me over, they said statements such as “stop struggling,” and “stop punching.” (Again, my hands were cuffed.) I immediately realized that they may be making such completely erroneous statements because we were being recorded, and I loudly stated “I’m not struggling,” and/or “I am not resisting arrest.”

Thug A sat on top of me over my pelvic area. My handcuffs were digging into my wrists. My only goal was to live through the experience without losing my humanity, my spirit, or my presence of mind, to find out where I was being taken, and to find out as much as I could about these thugs, whether they were officers or some sort of private contractors, i.e. paramilitary groups.

Thug B then squeezed my throat with his right hand, digging his thumb deeply into my carotid artery area, on the right side of my throat. He held this for perhaps ten seconds, as Thug A stepped on me, re-adjusting himself overtop of me. I almost passed out at that point as the carotid artery is the chief artery that supplies blood to the brain. At some point during or before this strangulation, I wet myself. Urine seeped into and through my clothing. Darkness almost overtook me, but I held on and I did not lose consciousness.

It’s Obama’s Empire Now

Perhaps we now are the largest imperial power the world ever has known. Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan trivializes the once-massive naval and air facility at Cam Ranh Bay during the Vietnam War, and we have developed “permanent” mega-bases in Iraq. We engage in denial, and euphemisms abound. Stumping for the colonial takeover of the Philippines in 1901, Theodore Roosevelt, so fashionable today, insisted that “there is not an imperialist in the country. ... Expansion? Yes. ... Expansion has been the law of our national growth.” Chalmers Johnson reminds us of Democrat Woodrow Wilson’s liberal “idealist imperialism,” which would make the world safe for democracy.

Woman Reports Prowler, Gets Repeatedly Tased By Cops

Two Georgia cops have lost their jobs after a video emerged of them macing and tasing a 57 year old woman who simply called to report a prowler outside her house.

Often enough, the worst thing you can do is call the cops. Now this video begins just seconds before the tasing starts, so I don't know what precipitated it. I presume the assumption is that these cops saw this woman who wasn't immediately complying with their orders, they didn't listen to what she was trying to tell them, and tased her as a matter of course. That is an assumption without any basis in fact, so if anyone knows more about this incident, I welcome them to comment in order to fill out the story.

The couple claims they have told their 8- and 10-year-old children that if they miss bus then they have to walk to school as punishment. They allege this is a form of punishment they have set in the past and have enforced from time-to-time.
On Nov. 17 the children missed the bus and were forced to walk the 1.4 miles to school.

Ex-blacksmith hammers home green message

Yvon Chouinard opened up the old corrugated metal shed that sat in the middle of the work campus.

Inside, some of the equipment dated back to the 1920s. Much of the machinery hadn't been touched for decades.

"This is a coal forge, with a blower, you know. Then I went to a gas forge. Started out by hammering everything by hand," Chouinard said as he gripped the dusty metal...

Call the Politburo, We’re in Trouble (second article down)

Depending on just what you counted, there were anywhere from 700 to perhaps 1,200 or more U.S. bases, micro to macro, acknowledged and unacknowledged, around the globe. Meanwhile, the Pentagon was pouring money into the wildest blue-skies thinking at its advanced research arm, DARPA, whose budget grew by 50%. Through DARPA, well-funded scientists experimented with various ways to fight sci-fi-style wars in the near and distant future (at a moment when no one was ready to put significant government money into blue-skies thinking about, for instance, how to improve the education of young Americans).

Anne Frankenstein and Beans (Canadian establishment's deference to Israel called into question)

Indeed the public is moving on. In my opinion, the root of the current ether does not initially stem from gracious or magnanimous heartfelt desire for a resolution and an end to Palestine's suffering. That is something which seems to develop secondary with most people I have talked with, who have recently changed their stance on empathy for Israel's security.

What seems to have initiated the process of the public drift is a burgeoning contempt for Israel's flagrant air of self entitlement; brash chest thumping calls of impunity; irreverent and unapologetic excuses for each massacre; constant force feeding of holocaust stories and the unabashed admittance of government interference. That's the general consensus I have heard over and over again.

In many cases, once the discovery is made that Israel is no light onto nations, interest and empathy is quickly shifted to the Palestinian cause - especially in light of the "Never Again" hypocrisy.

The Spy Scare

By Justin Raimondo

We’re in the midst of a spy scare, one of those periodic bouts of paranoia that spreads, like a virus, from Washington on outward. This time, it’s alleged Russian spies, but the scare is already becoming a generalized fear, permeating official Washington and the “mainstream” media like a poisonous fog. Check out Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-Michigan), a member of the House intelligence committee, Fran Townsend, CNN’s “national security correspondent,” and CNN anchor Suzanne Malveaux in the “Situation Room,” bloviating oh-so-knowledgably about this latest “threat”:

“MALVEAUX: Well, Congressman, I want you to weigh in on this. How concerned are you that this is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to spying inside of the United States?

White House hits the panic button on fall elections

"I think I did what is maybe uncommon in this town," said White House press secretary Robert Gibbs. "I opened my mouth and stated the obvious."

Gibbs over the weekend publicly acknowledged for the first time that Republicans could win control of the House.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, having botched both domestic and foreign policy so badly, the White House's concern for November elections may well factor in toward an eminent preemptive attack against Iran, so that Obama can be perceived as being "butch" about something.

Unfortunately, such an attack will be the most utterly wrongheaded thing about which this white house could possibly "get butch", and trigger World War III.

Review: Sound Truth & Corporate Myth$ by Riki Ott

Written with as much feeling as rigor and investigative enterprise, these books are required reading for anyone affected by either Valdez or the current Gulf spill. I reviewed the more recent of the two, Not One Drop (Chelsea Green Publishing, 2008), last year for Energy Bulletin. Here I review the earlier but equally important Sound Truth, a pioneering piece of scholarship that forces us to rethink our notions about how toxic oil and the chemicals used to clean it up really are.

Oil is much more toxic than scientists used to think—that is Ott's consistent refrain throughout the book. According to the old understanding of oil toxicity, impacts from oil spills should be entirely short-term. Since for the most part oil is non-water-soluble, scientists reasoned that it must not be that harmful to aquatic life and that whatever harm it does cause happens early on as the oil is shedding its highly volatile compounds. Thus, the old thinking goes, any oil that doesn't weather away completely after a certain amount of time is harmless, even if it remains visible in the environment for years after a spill. But studies done in the years since Valdez have shown these notions to be sadly mistaken. Oil actually becomes more, not less, harmful the longer it remains in the environment, because the weathering process exposes increasingly toxic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)—which Ott says "may well be the DDT of the 21st century."

Obama faces growing credibility crisis

“The bottom line here is that Americans don’t believe in President Obama’s leadership,” says Rob Shapiro, another former Clinton official and a supporter of Mr Obama. “He has to find some way between now and November of demonstrating that he is a leader who can command confidence and, short of a 9/11 event or an Oklahoma City bombing, I can’t think of how he could do that.”

Noam Chomsky opposes Palestinian-led movement to boycott Israel

In an interview on the Council for the National Interest internet radio program “Jerusalem Calling,” MIT Professor Noam Chomsky, author of The Fateful Triangle and other books on Israel-Palestine, said that he opposes boycotting Israel.

In a July 8th interview with new CNI President Alison Weir, Dr. Chomsky at first denied that he opposed the boycott, divestment, and sanctions movement, calling this an “internet rumor.”

However, when Weir said she had heard him say that he opposed boycott during a lecture at the University of California Berkeley several years ago, Chomsky admitted that he had opposed boycotting Israel then and said that he still did so now. He said that he felt that activists should instead only divest from American companies.

National interest has gone missing in USA and Israel

Lawrence Davidson argues that the power of Zionist lobbies in the United States and real-estate ideologues in Israel mean that war and expansionism will always take precedence over the national interest in both countries.

"The explanation given here helps us to understand why [Syrian President] Bashar Asad can knock at Israel’s locked door and no one in that country will bother to open it. It also helps us understand why Obama and Clinton turned their backs on the Turkish and Brazilian efforts to negotiate a deal with Iran. Both are reacting to the power and influence of domestic special interests. Compared to these interests, the "national interest" does not stand a chance."

After Oil Spill, Gulf States Want Obama Vacation

Now 15 years later, President Obama is getting some similar vacation advice intended to bolster his image, especially with those upset with his administration's handling of the Gulf oil spill cleanup. On one hand, Gulf tourism officials think he should visit the area to help show it's still a good vacation spot while on the other hand the public wants him there to do some public service.See photos of the Gulf oil spill. http://politics.usnews.com/news/energy/photos/gulf-coast-oil-spill

There is No Plan For Permanently Housing the 1.9 Million Haitians Who Lost Their Homes in the Quake

Four new free enterprise zones have been created since the earthquake. Both Bill Clinton, who is the special envoy to Haiti from the U.N., and Hillary Clinton, of course in her role as Secretary of State, have said that the assembly industry is the linchpin of the reconstruction plan. And yet the sweat shop workers earn $3.09 a day, which is not a livable wage, work in often terrible conditions, and are forced to live in terrible conditions as well. Many of the people who died in the earthquake were sweatshop workers who could not afford better housing than temporary makeshift structures that were on top of each other, that were on the sides of hills, that were completely unstable, which is why up to 300,000 people died during this earthquake.

Two sets of standards

Poor 'holocaust' and Charlie Manson 'victim' Roman Polanski won't be extradited back to the U.S. for drugging and raping a child. He's suffered enough and it happened so many years ago said fellow pervert Woody Allen.

Certain Hollywood insiders must be ecstatic that they may be able to make a few more bucks off this sorry ass and his sorry ass films.

Meanwhile, Mel Gibson gets set up, runs his mouth again and Hollywood turns mean.

He could face a year in jail for misdemeanor batter or "the courts could upgrade the charge to assault with enhancement of great bodily injury," "The maximum penalty for that is four years behind bars in a state prison, and the D.A.'s office almost always seeks state prison under those charges."

Obama: 'I Have Met Israel and It Is "Us"'

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu set up another illegal Jewish settlement, this time on the White House lawn. And, it appears, President Obama has agreed to serve as its armed guard.

So complete was Obama’s identification with Israel yesterday that he actually referred to Israel as “us” before correcting himself:

“We strongly believe that, given its size, its history, the region that it’s in, and the threats that are leveled against us—against it, that Israel has unique security requirements.”

No “implantation” of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon! Part VII of a series on the Case for Palestinian Civil Rights in Lebanon.

The explosive issue of Palestinian civil rights in Lebanon will move to center stage under the Parliamentary spotlight this week, with meetings of parliamentary committees and a legislative session now scheduled to consider late breaking proposals by the March 14 alliance, led by Prime Minister Saad Hariri. The main holdouts, as predicted, will be the right wing Christian Phalange party and its allies and former Prime Minister Fuad Siniora has been tasked this week with getting them on board.

I got back from Arizona a bit ago, visiting with friends, mostly Vietnam vets. From Veterans Today we had Jim Hanke, Jeff Gates, regular Army and me, as usual, the lone Marine and with our hosts, Navy Seal Hershel Davis. Years ago it would have been talk about POWs and politics. Now its down to motorcycles and single malt. We did get a few minutes in on John McCain as he is running around the state playing war hero to stay in the thieving Senate. Some of us had fought both Kerry and McCain for years as POW advocates.

Requiem for the Antiwar Movement by Cindy Sheehan

Last week, the Democratically controlled House of Representatives voted to give Barack Obama 33 billion more dollars to prosecute two idiotic and ill-advised wars. Of course they did—it wasn’t the first time since 2007 that a Democratic Congress voted to fund wars, and it won’t be the last—do you all know why? BECAUSE THE DEMOCRATS DON’T WANT PEACE—THEY ARE JUST ONE-HALF OF THE “WAR PARTY.”
