How to resign from the club

Breaking up the euro area
How to resign from the club
The barriers to leaving are high but could still be crawled over by a country determined to leave

The idea of breaking up the currency zone raises at least three questions. First, why would a country choose to leave? Second, how would a country manage the switch to a new currency? Third—and perhaps most important—would leavers be better off outside the euro than inside it?

The main reason why a country might choose to leave the euro is to regain the monetary independence it sacrificed on joining and to set monetary policy to suit its own economic conditions.

Vatican Scientists Urge Support For Engineered Crops

Scientists have both the right and a moral duty to be “stewards of God” by genetically modifying crops to help the world’s poor, scientific advisers to the Vatican said this week.

In a statement condemning opposition to GM crops in rich countries as unjustified, a group of scientists including leading members of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences is demanding a relaxation of “excessive, unscientific regulations” for approving GM crops, saying that these prevent development of crops for the “public good”.

Controversial Drug Given to All Guantanamo Detainees Akin to “Pharmacologic Waterboarding”

The Defense Department forced all “war on terror” detainees at the Guantanamo Bay prison to take a high dosage of a controversial antimalarial drug, mefloquine, an act that an Army public health physician called “pharmacologic waterboarding.”

The US military administered the drug despite Pentagon knowledge that mefloquine caused severe neuropsychiatric side effects, including suicidal thoughts, hallucinations and anxiety. The drug was used on the prisoners whether they had malaria or not.

The revelation, which has not been previously reported, was buried in documents publicly released by the Defense Department (DoD) two years ago as part of the government’s investigation into the June 2006 deaths of three Guantanamo detainees.

California Approves Pesticide with KNOWN links to Cancer, Eugenics Operation Continues

Officials in California have approved a toxic pesticide to be used in fruit and vegetable farms throughout the state. Officials have made California the 47th state to approve a known toxin to be sprayed on our fruits and vegetables.

The pesticide, methyl iodide, will be used as a replacement for methyl bromide which has destroyed the Earth’s ozone layer.

That’s right, strawberries from California will be laced with a pesticide that causes cancer. Why is a pesticide that is on the list of known cancer causing chemicals being approved for use on our food supply?

Fed wants to strip a key protection for homeowners

Americans continue to lose their homes in record numbers, the Federal Reserve is considering making it much harder for homeowners to stop foreclosures and escape predatory home loans with onerous terms.

The Fed's proposal to amend a 42-year-old provision of the federal Truth in Lending Act has angered labor, civil rights and consumer advocacy groups along with a slew of foreclosure defense attorneys.

Since 1968, the Truth in Lending Act has given homeowners the right to cancel, or rescind illegal loans for up to three years after the transaction was completed if the buyer wasn't provided with proper disclosures at the time of closing.

Attorneys at AARP have used the rescission clause for decades to protect older homeowners stuck in predatory loans with costly terms. The provision is also helping struggling homeowners to fight a wave of foreclosure cases in which faulty and sometimes-fraudulent disclosures were used.

The violations must be of a material nature to invalidate a loan under the extended-rescission clause. To do so, homeowners — usually those facing financial problems or foreclosure — hire an attorney to scour their mortgage documents for possible violations regarding the actual cost of the loan or payment terms.

NASA: Are Aliens Among Us? ‘Sort Of’

Alien life has been among us all along, according to new biological findings announced by NASA Thursday.

Research conducted by biochemist Dr. Felisa Wolfe-Simon from the U.S. Geological Survey has turned the quest for alien life on its ear, suggesting that phosphorous — which is found in every living thing — is not necessarily the only sign of life. Wolfe-Simon will explain the findings at a hotly anticipated NASA press conference today at 2 p.m.

After a two-year study at California’s Mono Lake, near Yosemite National Park, Wolfe-Simon found that a bug will grow in the presence of the toxic chemical arsenic when only slight traces of phosphorous are present. I

The story broke wide in early 2004, with coverage in the New York Post and the New York Press. The naked emperor

The leaked cables prove that Europe - never impervious to self-ridicule - was already being marginalized during the Bush era, and more so now with Obama concentrating on Asia-Pacific. As for the bulk of what has been leaked so far, especially on Iran and the movers and shakers in the Persian Gulf, it is barely disguised US/Israeli propaganda.

Not accidentally, many a global headline is beating the same drum along the lines of "Israel greets WikiLeaks cables as vindication of its Iran policy". An overall assessment of the leaked cables reveals that as much as Israel and the powerful US Israel lobby worked overtime to bring about the invasion and destruction of Iraq, it is doubling the bet to do exactly the same regarding Iran. Attention should be paid to a cable warning that "elegant and seductive" Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "never keeps his promises". As in: no halt to settlements in the West Bank, and let's bomb, bomb Iran.

Ken Wooden, founder of Child Lures Prevention, says the TSA's recommendation that children be told the pat-down is a "game" is potentially putting children in danger.

Telling a child that they are engaging in a game is "one of the most common ways" that sexual predators use to convince children to engage in inappropriate contact, Wooden told Raw Story.

Children "don't have the sophistication" to distinguish between a pat-down carried out by an airport security officer and an assault by a sexual predator, he said.

S 510 Food Safety bill now dead in the water due to blue slip mistake

(NaturalNews) It is now being revealed that US Senators slipped up in a big way when passing the Food Safety Modernization Act on Tuesday: They added what are effectively "new taxes" into the bill, and according to the U.S. Constitution, only the House of Representatives can initiate legislation requiring new taxes.

Thus, the House is now obliged to give this food safety legislation the so-called "blue slip," meaning that it rejects the law and sends it back to the Senate for yet another vote. This would take time and effort, of course, and the Democrats have very little of either remaining in their lame duck session.

Wikileaks Leaks Toxic Acid in Every Direction, Except to Israel

Let us ponder for a second about the meaning of ‘leaking’. When something is leaking, it is usually understood that some fluid substance that is supposed to be flowing in a certain direction, is escaping from its designed route because of a defect in the structure that was built to guide it. Usually, if you have a leaking pipe in your water system, your main problem is that you are unable to control the flow of it, and water goes into directions where you don’t want it to be going.

Sanity restored: Philadelphia puts ‘Christmas’ back in the village
By Daniel Rubin
INQUIRER COLUMNIST
I'd like to thank Mayor Nutter for saving Christmas.
Wednesday afternoon he announced that the city had over-reacted in changing the name of the traditional German Christmas Village on Dilworth Plaza to simply "Holiday Village."
"Christmas Village" it will be once again.
And here I had been ready to bury the decision.
Why not? Pulling the word "Christmas" off the sign over the village gate seemed ridiculous Tuesday afternoon when I walked around that dollop of Deutchland outside City Hall, sampling the hot nuts and sizzling bratwursts, and oggling the tiny elves and fat Santas.

TSA turns off naked body scanners to avoid opt-out day protests

Anticipating a nationwide grassroots surge of protests against naked body scanners and aggressive pat-downs, the TSA simply turned off its naked body scanners on Wednesday and let air travelers walk right through security checkpoints without being X-rayed or molested.

All across the country, air travelers are reporting that the TSA simply deactivated the naked body scanners and let people go right through without a scan. "Backscatter scanners are off. No scan. No patdown." reported a traveler from the Seattle airport. "Backscatter machines aren't being used at LAX," reported another traveler. "They're all roped off."

As soon as the TV cameras leave, however, they can turn those machines right back on and start molesting people once again. This is classic behavior of police state tyrants: They present a calm, professional image to the media, but once the cameras leave, all of a sudden their hands are back down in your pants.

Top ten lies about Senate Bill 510, by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger

(NaturalNews) The Food Safety Modernization Act looks like it's headed to become law. It's being hailed as a "breakthrough" achievement in food safety, and it would hand vast new powers and funding to the FDA so that it can clean up the food supply and protect all Americans from food-borne pathogens.

Here are the ten biggest lies that have been promoted about S.510 by the U.S. Congress, the food industry giants and the mainstream media:

Lie #1 - Most deaths from food poisoning are caused by fresh produce

Lie #2 - Under S.510, the FDA would only recall products it knows to be contaminated

Lie #3 - They didn't tell you that nearly 70% of grocery store chickens are contaminated with salmonella every day

Lie #4 - S.510 will exclude and protect small farmers

Lie #5 - The FDA needs more power to enforce food safety

Lie #6 - Fresh produce is contaminated because of a lack of paperwork

Lie #7 - The American people are dying in droves from unsafe fresh food

Lie #8 - The FDA just wants to make food "safer"

Lie #9 - Food smuggling is a huge problem in America

Lie #10 - S.510 will make America's food supply the safest in the world

Fed Names Recipients of $3.3 Trillion in Crisis Aid

The Federal Reserve, under orders from Congress, today named the counterparties of about 21,000 transactions from $3.3 trillion in aid provided to stem the worst financial panic since the Great Depression.

Bank of America Corp. and Wells Fargo & Co. were among the biggest borrowers from one program, the Term Auction Facility, with as much as $45 billion apiece. Some aid went to U.S. units of foreign institutions, including Switzerland’s UBS AG, France’s Societe Generale and Germany’s Dresdner Bank AG. The Fed posted the data on its website to comply with a provision in July’s Dodd-Frank law overhauling financial regulation.

The information, which also includes the amounts of transactions and interest rates charged, spans six loan programs as well as currency swaps with other central banks, purchases of mortgage-backed securities and the rescues of Bear Stearns Cos. and American International Group Inc.

In an attempt to prevent a repeat of last year’s problems on Swedish railroads, which caused hundreds of delays and cancellations, the government on Wednesday decided to redirect funds from other areas in the budget to help pay for maintenance and clearing snow off the tracks.

“It is for example meant for checking the rail switches, some signals and to make sure all the cables are in good condition. It is mostly security issues that affect punctuality,” Malm told Swedish Radio News.

THE MADNESS OF A LOST SOCIETY

Dec 01 11:28

Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo., was caught blowing off some steam in the Senate chamber this morning.

Sitting in the presiding officer’s chair, in front of a microphone he apparently didn’t realize was live, Bennet complained to a female colleauge (who was off-camera) while other senators voted that the Senate’s process was “rigged.” He also complained that there had been no advance discussion of the Democrats’ lameduck agenda before the session began.

“There’s nothing about — because it’s all rigged,” Bennet said. “I mean, the whole conversation is rigged. The fact that we don’t get to a discussion before the break about what we’re going to do in the lame duck — is just rigged. This stuff’s rigged.”

As Bennet made his comments, which you can hear in this video, two aides at one of the lower tables stood up to alert him that the microphone was live. Bennet, who is sitting partly off-camera on the right, suddenly noticed that the microphone was live. His female colleague laughed as Bennet reached across the dais to turn it off.

Industry bought Congressional votes to pass S. 510 food safety bill

Despite an incredible outpouring of public opposition to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) "Food Safety Modernization Act", or S. 510, the Senate voted 73 to 25 to pass the bill anyway. And data presented by Maplight.org, a nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization, shows that big industry groups and large food producers spent millions of dollars buying off Congressmen to garner support for it.

According to the site, Senators that ended up supporting the bill received nearly $10 million in political contributions from interest groups that also supported the bill. This amount was more than four times as much as groups opposed to the bill spent on overall contributions.

WASHINGTON – Divisions remain within President Barack Obama's deficit commission on politically explosive budget cuts and slashes in Social Security benefits, even as the panel's co-chairmen go public with a revised plan to tame the runaway national debt.

The new plan by co-chairmen Erskine Bowles and Alan Simpson, to be unveiled Wednesday, faces an uphill slog. Resistance is certain, not only because of the idea of raising the Social Security retirement age, but also because of proposed cuts to Medicare, curtailment of tax breaks and a doubling of the federal tax on a gallon of gasoline.

Low Dose Arsenic for a Cyanide Society

To prove this point, just watch any news broadcast from an international newscast source. The difference from NBC, CBS or ABC is stark. Now read a newspaper from overseas and compare the editorial selection from the New York Times, Washington Post or USA Today. The lack of professional journalistic standards is obvious in the fish wrapper version from establishment publications. The theme in both broadcast and print media is the same. View the world with blinders, from a superficial microcosm.

Why the Tester Amendment Does NOT Help Small Food Producers Under S.510

The Tester "Small Farm" Exemption to S.510 Exposed as a Scam: Part 1

Eric Blair
Activist Post

Some of our readers and others have requested that we reference specific sections of the Tester Amendment to food safety bill S. 510 to outline why this does not help or exempt small food producers.

The amendment has been sold to the critical public as "exempting" small farms and food producers from the entirety of the heavy-handed regulations of the Food Safety Modernization Act. Yet, nothing could be farther from the truth . . .

How to Save Taxpayer Money: Bring in The Dogs, Not Naked Body Scanners

Brasscheck TV

This video exposes the blood-boiling waste and corruption that the new airport body-scanning machines represent. So far, at least $160 million in US Taxpayer money has been spent, with potentially billions more to be paid on these systems in the next few years.

Trained bomb sniffing dogs, in combination with the metal detectors *already being used* in airports would produce FAR more accurate readings of REAL threats to airline passengers, without the Gestapo-like humiliation, the illegal invasion of privacy and the toxic exposure to radiation from these devices . . .

2 million lose jobless benefits as holidays loom

Extended unemployment benefits for nearly 2 million Americans begin to run out Wednesday, cutting off a steady stream of income and guaranteeing a dismal holiday season for people already struggling with bills they cannot pay.

Unless Congress changes its mind, benefits that had been extended up to 99 weeks will end this month.

Hours before beefed-up benefits were set to expire at midnight on Tuesday, Democrats sought to extend them for another year. But they were blocked by Republican Senator Scott Brown, who said Democrats should have taken time to work out a compromise...

WikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange Tells TIME: Hillary Clinton 'Should Resign'

Hillary Clinton, Julian Assange said, "should resign." Speaking over Skype from an undisclosed location on Tuesday, the WikiLeaks founder was replying to a question by TIME managing editor Richard Stengel over the diplomatic-cable dump that Assange's organization loosed on the world this past weekend. Stengel had said the U.S. Secretary of State was looking like "the fall guy" in the ensuing controversy, and had asked whether her firing or resignation was an outcome that Assange wanted. "I don't think it would make much of a difference either way," Assange said. "But she should resign if it can be shown that she was responsible for ordering U.S. diplomatic figures to engage in espionage in the United Nations, in violation of the international covenants to which the U.S. has signed up.

TSA Agent Claims Videotaping Against The Law

The TSA has now been caught denying American citizens the right to videotape their encounters with airport security. It is very clear that TSA believes they are 100% above the law.

Apparently, the TSA goon was not even aware of his own rules. No where in TSA regulations does it say that TSA agents have the right to deny American citizens their right to film in a public setting.

See, the TSA needs to ban cameras in airports so that citizen journalists can no longer document their molestation at the hands of an agency that should have no legal authority to supersede the Constitution.

Top Ten Lies About Senate Bill 510

The Food Safety Modernization Act looks like it’s headed to become law. It’s being hailed as a “breakthrough” achievement in food safety, and it would hand vast new powers and funding to the FDA so that it can clean up the food supply and protect all Americans from food-borne pathogens.

There’s just one problem with all this: It’s all a big lie.

Here are the ten biggest lies that have been promoted about S.510 by the U.S. Congress, the food industry giants and the mainstream media:

S.510 PASSES: THE SENATE EFFECTIVELY DECLARES ITSELF AN AGENT OF FOREIGN PRINCIPALS

As most of you know, S.510 the fake food safety bill which had nothing to do with food safety, passed the Senate this morning. This bill, which will go down in history as one of the greatest weaponless assaults on the States by the central government, is intended to knock the knees out from under what little is left of our economy.

Section 404 of the bill, forces the subjugation of the citizens of the States to unlawful trade agreements, international organization demands, and will reduce operating standards across the board for bio-piracy corporations in order to maximize their profits and to end as much competition in those markets as possible. These unlawful agreements and the mandates from such odious organizations as the World trade Organization, Codex Alimentarius committees, and other foreign principals have unlawfully usurped US laws and sovereignty, forfeiting our right to self determination and governance.

The bill, which expands a notoriously dysfunctional and incompetent agency, the FDA, is also intended to abrogate the rights of the citizens. The multiple constitutional violations in the bill went by unnoticed by members of the Senate; probably because the majority of them never even read the bill and had no idea what was in it. These violations of rights also seemed to by pass the mental faculties of several high profile front groups and individuals.

Is Assange a Soros and CIA asset?

Two days ago 70 websites were closed down by the department of Justice. No judge, no jury and no court hearing. Their argument? They allowed torrent downloads.

So if it is so easy to close down websites why is Wikileaks still up and running? The Pentagon has a whole department dedicated to being able to stop cyber "terrorism" and Julian Assange can run rings around them with his Robin Hood antics.

The alleged perpetrator Pt. Manning who "stole" the secret documents is in solitary confinement and not even his family is allowed to visit him. We don't know his story but with the political situation in the US being what it is he will probably be called an enemy combatant and will not be allowed to have a court hearing and he will disappear into the system never to be heard from again.
