RIP: Pentagon Kills $89.4 Million X-Plane Drone

The Pentagon’s secret weapons maker has dustbinned its LightningStrike experimental drone project with vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capabilities.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) awarded a contract to Aurora Flight Sciences in 2016 to build an unmanned VTOL X-plane as part of the program known as LightningStrike. Flight demonstrations were supposed to take place this year, but DARPA killed the program before the full-scale demonstrator ever got off the ground in flight tests, DARPA spokesman Jared Adams confirmed to IHS Jane's on Wednesday.

The decision to terminate the program was made by the agency during a recent program review, Tactical Technology Office Director Fred Kennedy told the news outlet April 25.

Israeli Defense Minister: "The Iranian Regime Is In Its Final Days"

Israel's Defense Minister says Iran is on the brink of economic and military collapse, and that Israel will attack Tehran "and destroy every Iranian military outpost in Syria threatening Israel," according to Arab-language publication Elaph and reported by Israeli media Thursday.

“They know that the Iranian regime is in its final days and will soon collapse,” said Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman, adding "If they attack Tel Aviv, we will attack Tehran."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Russian Navy Unleashes Missiles Against ISIS and "Rebels" in Syria -- AMERICANS KILLED

Russia DID NOT notify the US prior to launching these attacks and, according to several of my former colleagues in various governments, AMERICANS are among the dead! It is not known at this time if the Americans are regular military or contractors.

According to a single intel source, the US is not reacting publicly to this (yet) because the government does not want the American people to know it's "Advisers" were involved with ISIS and were killed because they were actually in the presence of ISIS, helping them!

Joy Reid’s Hacking Claims Look Increasingly Unlikely

Joy Reid claims a recent batch of screenshots appearing to show homophobic statements on her now-defunct blog are “fraudulent” and the result of a cyberattack.

However, several aspects of the cyberattack claim seem highly questionable.

The host of MSNBC’s “AM Joy” came under fire this week after a Twitter user shared screenshots of anti-LGBTQ content Reid had seemingly written between 2005 and 2009 for her old blog, The Reid Report.

Reid apologized in December for writing homophobic posts about former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist (D) between 2007 and 2009 after Twitter user @Jamie_Maz shared screenshots of the posts.

Last week, @Jamie_Maz tweeted dozens more screenshots, also allegedly from Reid’s old blog, that included statements such as “most straight people cringe at the sight of two men kissing” and “adult gay men tend to be attracted to very young, post-pubescent types.”

Air Force gunships in Syria are being jammed by 'adversaries' rendering blind and unable to help under-siege troops, special ops general says

American warplanes are being jammed as they fly missions over Syria, preventing them from telling friend from foe on the battlefield.

General Raymond Thomas, head of U.S. Special Operations Command, said unspecified 'adversaries' were ramping up cyber attacks in the region.

He said the Air Force AC-130 gunship was 'aggressively' targeted, which could force it to abort missions and leave ground forces exposed.

'Right now in Syria, we're in the most aggressive electronic warfare environment on the planet from our adversaries,' he said.

'They're testing us every day, knocking our communications down, disabling our AC-130s, etc.'

520 Secret JFK Files to Remain Fully Sealed

The can has been kicked a little farther down the road. When President Trump in October approved the release of previously classified or redacted documents on the JFK assassination, he blocked the release of others over national security concerns and gave federal agencies 180 days to re-review the withheld documents. The review in some cases turned up "identifiable national security, law enforcement, and foreign affairs concerns," per a memo written by Trump, who on Thursday said some files would now be kept under wraps until Oct. 26, 2021.

Psychiatrist Says: More Psychiatry Means More Shootings

Among the many missed opportunities widely discussed in the media, here is one on the local level where the Department of Children and Families actually went to his home to investigate. The department intended to evaluate Cruz for “possible detainment under the Baker Act, which allows authorities to hold individuals against their will for up to 72 hours.”

What did the investigator find? NBC News quotes the official report: “Mr. Cruz stated that he plans to go out and buy a gun… It is unknown what he is buying the gun for.”

Not only was Cruz planning to buy a gun while apparently refusing to say what he was planning to use it for, but his mother’s observations cast serious doubt on her son’s mental capacity to own a weapon. According to the New York Times, “She told the investigator that Mr. Cruz did not have a gun, though he did have an air gun she would take away from him when he did not follow rules about shooting only at backyard targets.”

China at Risk of Radioactive Exposure from North Korean Test Site - Report

Two groups of Chinese researchers have reportedly confirmed a risk from radioactive exposure to their countrymen after a North Korean nuclear test site appeared to have partially collapsed.

North Korea's Mount Mantap has contained every known nuclear test in the country: the Punggye-ri nuclear test site sits under it in a network of tunnels. After a thermonuclear device was tested in early September 2017, seismic activity at the mountain was recorded in the form of a 6.3-magnitude earthquake, according to the US Geological Survey's findings, while the China Earthquake Networks Center detected a 3.4 magnitude follow-up quake.

Almost immediately, it was reported that the mountain had experienced a tunnel collapse, although with some uncertainty. Now, the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post reports that Chinese researchers have confirmed that the mountain collapsed on itself.

My experiences of Vietnam War agitprop make me skeptical of West's excuses for bombing Syria

My generation endured fear of the draft because disinformation helped drag our country into a terrible war. That conflict was Vietnam, and the agitprop used to conjure consent for military assaults on Syria now gives me deja vu.

Back in 1972, as a 19-year-old Australian male, I was required to register for the ballot to determine conscription for Vietnam, where my country was allied with the US and South Vietnam against the Vietcong and North Vietnam.

I turned 65 in March. And that's a landmark which can inspire a bit of reflection. Anyway, back in that final teenage year, I hadn't registered, and I wasn't going to. However, had Gough Whitlam's Australian Labor Party not won the election that year, I would have been a draft resister – a stance which would have had surely led to consequences.

Why a Bar Can Boot Trump Supporters, But a Bakery Cannot Deny Gay Customers

All interactions should be consensual. Obviously, we understand this concept when it comes to relationships and sex. But for some reason, fewer people hold consent as so important when it comes to business transactions.

You don’t have to go to a bar, and a bar doesn’t have to serve you.

But this does seem like quite the contradiction compared to courts forcing bakers to bake cakes for gay couples.

Western Countries Find Loophole To Veto Russia At UNSC

The British newspaper The Guardian notes that Russia has already used the right of veto 11 times to stop Western actions against Syria. In this regard, the West intends to use the UNGA resolution of 1950, which allows the transfer of the issue from the Security Council to the General Assembly.

68 years ago this resolution was already used to ignore the position of the USSR on the war in Korea. Then the US and its allies could act in the DPRK under the ‘auspices of the world community.’

Too Many Foreign Policy Double Standards Hurt U.S. Credibility

American leaders like to portray the United States as an exemplar of ethical conduct in the international system. The reality is far different, and it has been for decades. Throughout the Cold War, the United States embraced extremely repressive rulers, including the Shah of Iran, Nicaragua’s Somoza family, Taiwan’s Chiang Kai-shek, and Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak, all the while portraying them as noble members of the “Free World.” Such blatant hypocrisy and double standards continue today regarding both Washington’s own dubious behavior and the U.S. attitude toward the behavior of favored allies and friends.

One is that Cohen would need to strike a deal with prosecutors to avoid charges or prison time. Trump's tweet did not even entertain the idea that the investigation will turn up nothing because Cohen committed no crimes.

Delhi High Court’s ruling which forbids Monsanto from stopping supplies to seed companies is a boost to domestic seed companies, and will curb the ability of multinationals to establish a seed monopoly

'I'm Very Optimistic': German Diplomat on Possible Moscow-Berlin Rapprochement

Germany's former ambassador to Poland and India, Frank Elbe, has recently sparked vivid debate after writing an article in which he spoke about the need for diplomatic rapprochement with Russia. In an interview with Sputnik, the diplomat expressed his opinion on ties between the West and Moscow and prospects for improvement in their relations.

A low point in relations between Moscow and European countries may have a positive effect and bring about new initiatives, Germany's ex-ambassador Frank Elbe argued.

"I'm very optimistic. […] I very much hope that during his visit to Russia, Macron will clearly identify his and Mrs. Merkel's common positions regarding the need to resume positive cooperation with Russia," the diplomat told Sputnik.

A Royal Wedding Amid Such Crippling Poverty and Despair is a Provocation

The days of a royal birth or wedding being able to forge a national consensus in Britain are over. Not now. Not when so many are suffering. Not when social and economic injustice has reached Dickensian levels. And certainly not when revulsion of the country’s power elite has become so entrenched.

On the contrary, such royal events only serve to emphasise the incompatibility of the monarchy with democracy and the nation's collective intelligence in the 21st century.

How could it be otherwise at a time of rising poverty, brute inequality, social injustice, and growing public anger over a political and media establishment whose detachment from the lived experience of millions is near complete?

All the handshakes, hugs and smooching between Trump and Macron this week made for cringing viewing. Not because two males were being cordial and affectionate.

No, the embarrassment stems from the French leader being such a pathetic poodle to the White House bully.

Almost One Million Irish Slaves At Risk Of Being Scrubbed From History

They came in the holds of overcrowded ships, packed in among cargo and animals, and those who survived the journey were bought and sold in chains to work as hard their owners chose. They were taken to the Carribean, to the American colonies, and beyond. Sound familiar? But these forced immigrants, deprived of all personal freedom, were Irish slaves, and their servitude started long before black slavery was common.

The history of the Irish slaves has long been suppressed, and a modern movement of Irish slavery denial has even gained mainstream acceptance. Promoters of this toxic ideology claim that it is ‘racist’ to say the Irish were ever sold as slaves, as this ‘takes away’ from the black experience.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Slavery is slavery. Any person who is bought and sold, chained and abused, whether for a decade or a lifetime, deserves to be remembered, their tragic legacy respected.

Russian Delegation to OPCW Holds Press Briefing (VIDEO)

A doctor from the Douma hospital, also participating at the conference as a witness, said that what happened on April 7 is not corresponding with what was shown in the media. People were arriving at the hospital suffering from asphyxiation, not from a chemical attack. This was due to smoke inhalation from a nearby building that had been bombed. According to him, medical personnel were treating them when the White Helmets came in, claiming that there had been a chemical attack. He saw them creating hysteria in the hospital, but didn't believe them, as none of the staff saw signs of chemical poisoning. According to him, all their patients went home the same day.

Over 100 retired US generals urge lawmakers to reject Haspel CIA nomination for being 'intimately involved in torture'

As many as 109 retired US generals and admirals urged lawmakers to reject Gina Haspel's nomination as CIA director for being "intimately involved in torture," and to declassify her role in the notorious interrogation program.

Haspel, a career intelligence officer nicknamed the 'queen of torture' in some US media, should not be appointed as director of the CIA, the retired US military leaders argued in a letter addressed to lawmakers. Generals and admirals who signed the petition said there were troubled by the prospect "of someone who appears to have been intimately involved in torture" being elevated to a top position in the US intelligence community.

The letter was published on the Human Rights First website on Monday. Among the notable signatories are chief of US Transportation Command Walter Kross, former commander of US Army Europe David Maddox, former Marine Corps Commandant Charles Krulak, and Lee Gunn, former Inspector General of the Department of the Navy.

War and the Separation of Powers

A popular way to begin the first day of class in constitutional law in many American law schools is to ask the students what sets the U.S. Constitution apart from all others. Usually, they answer that it’s the clauses that guarantee the freedom of speech, privacy and due process.

Yes, each of those guarantees – if upheld – is vital to restraining government, but the overarching and most important unique aspect of the Constitution is the separation of powers. The constitutions of many totalitarian countries pay lip service to free speech, privacy and due process, but none has the strict separation of powers that the U.S. does.

Trump Talks Tough Against Iran, But His Political Options Are Limited

A crisis in relations between the US and Iran – which has the potential to produce a military confrontation in the Middle East – is building rapidly in the expectation that President Donald Trump will withdraw the US from the Iran nuclear deal in just over two weeks’ time.

Mr Trump is demanding that Iran effectively renegotiate the terms of the agreement which traded the suspension of US economic sanctions for a stop to Iran’s nuclear programme.

The White House sounds as if it has already decided to exit the agreement, which Mr Trump persistently denounced before and after his election as “the worst deal in the world”.

But he has put forward no alternative to what was successfully negotiated by President Barack Obama in 2015 other than a series of demands with which Iran is unlikely to comply, and appear designed to put the blame for the US action on Iran.

US officials admit that Iran has so far abided by the terms of the 2015 accord.

Israel denies man shot by sniper access to medical treatment

Israel is refusing a Gaza man seriously wounded by sniper fire during recent border protests access to medical treatment in the West Bank, necessary to save his leg from amputation, the Gaza-based Palestinian Authority health official responsible for coordination with Israel told The National on Wednesday.

Hisham Shaath, 25, from the southern Gaza city of Khan Yunis, has been hospitalised at the European hospital there since he was shot in the right thigh on April 15. He is the latest Gazan to have participated in the protests to be denied by Israel transfer for treatment in the West Bank as part of an openly declared punitive policy against the demonstrations, which began on March 30.

The Lies Behind America’s Interventions

Official Washington and those associated with it have misrepresented the facts numerous times in the service of military actions that might not otherwise have taken place. In the Middle East, these interventions have killed hundreds of thousands of innocent Arab civilians, brought chaos to Iraq and Libya, and led to the expulsion of a million Christians from communities where they have lived since biblical times.

The most famous of these episodes, of course, was the U.S. government’s assurance to the world that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction, which formed the basis for the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq. The government also insisted Saddam had ties to al-Qaeda, bolstering the call to war. Of course neither was true.
