Devastating Humanitarian Crisis: Update on the Situation in Hodeidah, Yemen

Quote from NRC’s Hodeidah Office Coordinator, Saleem Al-Shamiri, in Sana’a:

“Many people fled their homes in Hodeidah already. Sana’a and other cities are receiving many displaced. Water supplies have been cut off in some areas. Even families who refused to leave their house behind, have now been forced to flee because the fighting is closing in. Some of my friends arrived yesterday and today early morning. They are concerned for their future and worried they have lost their homes and income. How will they manage to rebuild their lives again?”

“I have friends who can’t leave their homes because they don’t have the means to travel. They are scared for their safety. They might be left in the crossfire without any water, food or way to escape. I am hoping the warring parties will allow safe routes out of the city as the fighting gets closer. People must be given a chance to save their own lives.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

As a Christian Pacifist Activist, I decry the actions of the US government in enabling Saudi war crimes in Yemen.

But I seriously doubt that the Saudi, or US governments, will allow safe passage for innocent civilians, and this is why.

Do you remember the scene in the film "Avatar", and I am paraphasing here, where the General decides to "create a crater so deep in the memories of the Navi people", that they will never dare to fight against the mining coalition which is destroying their planet,, ever again?

This is precisely what the US and Saudi Government have, essentially, vowed to do in Yemen.

They will create hundreds of killing fields, so that the people of Yemen, will never again fight their rule, and will be "pacified" into accepting whatever puppet government the Saudis and the US slide into Saana.

There will be no "humanitarian aid" with which to comfort those left standing; all we will see here, is a slaughter, courtesy of the genocidal Butcher of Yemen, Saudi Arabia's Prince Salman, aided and abetted by his BFF in the White House, President Trump.

As I type this, UAE military, overseen by American soldiers, are torturing Yemen prisoners, and unfortunately, again this time, our CIA's Gina Haspel is up to her elbows in more torture, and more blood.

US-Backed forces claime to "liberate" Yemenis, but instead rape detainees in secret.

Why are there no indignant outcries from the corporate Presstitute Media on this?!? Why, in the name of God, are there no requests for US reporters, to embed with these "interrogators" from the UAE?!?

Very simply, they are not allowed. No questions are allowed to be asked, in the runup to this slaughter.

But I will tell you, as long as there is breath in my body, I will continue to witness, peacefully, and never advocating violence, as a Christian, to the evils being done in my name, and in the names of all Americans, here in Yemen.

U.S. Double Standards in the Middle East. Washington Backs Terrorists and Extremists

of the USA.

This statement hasn’t appeared recently. In 2002, the Joint Resolution to authorize U.S. military actions against Iraq cited:

“Iraq continuing to possess and develop a significant chemical and biological weapons capability posed a threat to the national security of the United States.”

Before carrying out air strikes on Syria, 14 April, 2018, the White House used the same justifications. The American president acted within his legal authority as commander-in-chief “to protect vital national interests – stopping the spread of chemical weapons and preventing a humanitarian catastrophe.” However, if in 2002, the Iraq Resolution was passed by the U.S. Congress as public law No: 107-243, this time President Trump didn’t seek any authorization from other government institutions.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The ultimate goal here, by the US government, is quite simple, no matter how much carnage it creates to reach the following goals; control all oil, and other resources in the Middle East, and insure that these resources, are only sold in US dollars.

The Diseased, Lying, Condition of America’s ‘News’ Media

Both President Trump and former President Obama are commonly said in America’s ‘news’ media to be or to have been “ceding Syria to Russia” or “ceding Syria to Russia and Iran,” or similar allegations. They imply that ‘we’ own (or have some right to control) Syria.

Militarization of the African Continent: The U.S. Is Building a Massive $110 Million Drone Base in the Sahara

The Drone Base Will Provide a Stronger US Presence in a Region

[Combating Extremism is the stated objective. Terrorism is the Justification for the Militarization of Africa, GR Editor]

Back in 2013, President Obama had ordered a drone base to be built in the capital of Niger, Niamey, but even than military officials already indicated that ideally, they wanted the drone operation to be based outside of Agadez. The NY Times reported moving the drone base to Agadez had two main advantages. First, it is better positioned to launch drone operation throughout the southern regions of the Sahara that are turning into an alleged “terrorist hotbed”. Second, the drone operations are better shielded from prying eyes in isolated Agadez than in Niamey. A third reason, not mentioned by the NYT might well be that with the fall of Libyan leader Gaddafi, Agadez has turned into the smuggling capital of Africa, according to Politico Europe.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Translation: this is about expropriating more of Africa's resources, to which the US government has absolutely zero moral right, while insuring that those living over said resources get scarce, or zero, compensation for those resources, and they will only be sold in American dollars.

It is just that simple.

Does the US government really want to stop terrorism in its tracks?!? All it has to do, is stop mucking about in other people's countries.

You're welcome! :-)

Yemen War: Iranian Navy Dispatches Warships to Gulf of Aden

On June 21, the Iranian Navy dispatched two warships to the Gulf of Aden, where a fierce battle is ongoing between the Ansar Allah movement (also known as the Houthis) and the Saudi-led coalition for the port city of al-Hudaydah.

According to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, Iran sent a helicopter-carrier and a naval destroyer. The deployment of Iranian warships in the area will likely further complicate relations between Riyadh and Teheran. However, two warships will not be enough to lift a naval blockade from al-Hudaydah.

Meanwhile, the Houthis repelled another attempt by the Saudi-led coalition and its proxies to capture the al-Hudaydah airport in western Yemen recapturing most of the positions, which they had lost previously.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US government's participation in Saudi war crimes in Yemen does NOT make me proud to be an American; and it is a matter of great concern to me, that President Trump's two BBFs in the Middle East, are Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, the Butcher of Gaza, and the Saudi Crown Prince Salman, the Butcher of Yemen.

'CHINESE MARITIME MILITIA' LAUNCHES LASER ATTACKS AGAINST US MILITARY PILOTS IN PACIFIC OCEAN

Pilots of American military aircraft operating over the western Pacific Ocean have been targeted by lasers more than 20 times in recent months, US officials told The Wall Street Journal, following similar incidents in which Chinese nationals used lasersagainst American fighter pilots operating over Djibouti.

In April, the Pentagon issued a NOTAM, or “Notice to Airmen” warning of “unauthorized laser activity” resulting in minor injuries to an unspecified number of pilots over Djibouti. The lasers originated from a Chinese military base in the African country, just 8.3 miles from the American base.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What were these injuries, and to whom did they occur, if in fact, they existed?!?

Is this real... or more demonisation of the Chinese ahead of a war against it?!?

I noticed a companion piece in zerohedge.com this morning:

China Steps up Cyber attacks as trede tensions worsen.

And I am reminded of a Paul Craig Roberts story, presented last year:

Washington Plans to Nuke Russia and China

Just because such an action on the part of the US government would be the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing it could do, is utterly no guarantee that this government will not do it.

IF the US government understands what CIA Director Haspel is doing in Yemen, courtesy of her UAE minions (torture, actually, and BTW, they do), any horrifically idiotic decisions the US government could possibly make, may well happen, and soon.

US-BACKED FORCES CLAIM TO “LIBERATE” YEMENIS, INSTEAD RAPE DETAINEES IN SECRET PRISONS

The so-called “liberators” in Yemen are sexually and physically torturing detainees at secret prisons. Survivors recall disturbing stories laden with gruesome interrogation tactics for extracting false confessions. Meanwhile, the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen attempts to portray themselves as the bearers of freedom and reason.

As an ally of the United States’ “counter-terrorism” operation in Yemen, the United Arab Emirates established 18 prisons throughout territory under their control. An ongoing investigation from the Associated Press has so far identified instances of deranged sexual torture at five of these facilities. The Emirati headquarters in Yemen houses one of such facilities where witnesses have seen American soldiers.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, even with assuring the American people that the CIA will not longer torture, or outsource it, Gina Haspel has lied to the American people, yet again.

Ms. Haspel, understanding what you have done, or allowed to be done by the UAE, is an abomination; a profound disappointment;and an irrefutable demonstration, that you are a traitor to the citizens of this country.

You said anything to get confirmed; you lied. We understand that

And President Trump, you, by your inaction, and not firing Haspel on the spot, now that you understand that this is going on under your watch, as President, is horrific in the extreme.

Where are the Hanns Schraffs of the world, when you need them?!?

CONGRESS TO GIVE JEFF SESSIONS MORE POWER TO BAN WHATEVER SUBSTANCE HE DOESN'T LIKE

Allowing government to arbitrarily determine which substances human beings can put into their own bodies is one of the most idiotic things a society can do. As such, its no surprise Congress is salivating at the prospect of furthering this travesty by giving additional discretion on the matter to drug war-crazed loon, Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

If you think the Department of Justice has more than enough tools to wage the war on drugs, a bill passed by the House would create a fast-track scheduling system that could lead to the criminalization of kratom, nootropics, and pretty much anything that gives you a buzz and isn’t already illegal.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I have to wonder both what Sessions is worth, How much is Jeff Sessions worth and how much of that comes from investments/endorsements from the pharaceutical industries.

He is also very much a friend of the private prison industry:

Trump Administration brings back private prison industries, 2017

I am certain that many of those people, many of them Vets, just trying to get relief from long-term pain, with some of these substances, will find themselves incarcerated at some of these facilities, so Sessions' "good buds" in the private prison industry will profit handsomely, as a result of this legislation.

'Dreadful' future awaits world if nuclear deal collapses: Iran's SalehiFr

Iran's nuclear chief says the Middle East and the entire world will face a "dreadful" future if a 2015 multilateral nuclear agreement Tehran signed with the P5+1 group of countries falls apart.

Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi made the remarks on Friday in an address to an expert panel held on the sidelines of the Oslo Forum in the presence of Norwegian and Omani foreign ministers.

He said the international community showed a severe reaction to the United States' "unwise and baseless" decisions, including its move to withdraw from the nuclear agreement, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

"If the European Union and other countries supporting the JCPOA do not demonstrate their practical opposition to the US policies in due time, they will face a dreadful future and unprecedented insecurity in the region and the world because of the JCPOA's collapse," AEOI chief said.

Iraqi Hashd al-Sha’abi pledges 'suitable' response to deadly Syria strike

The Iraqi voluntary and pro-government Popular Mobilization Units have pledged to get revenge for a deadly air raid on their fellow fighters in Syria’s eastern province of Dayr al-Zawr earlier this week, blaming the United States or Israel for the attack.

Hezbollah Brigades spokesman Jaafar al-Husseini said it was still too early to say definitively whose forces carried out the late Sunday strike against the border town of al-Hari near the frontier with Iraq but insisted it “could only have been” the Americans or Israelis.

“When it becomes known who was responsible then there will be an appropriate response and the hand of the resistance will strike anywhere,” Husseini said during a memorial ceremony for the fallen fighters at a mosque in Baghdad.

Both the Syrian government and Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units – commonly known by the Arabic name Hashd al-Sha’abi, initially pinned the blame on the US-led coalition purportedly fighting the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group.

Israeli forces fire tear gas at Gazans, wound over 200

More than 200 unarmed Palestinian protesters have been wounded by Israeli troops in the besieged Gaza Strip along the border separating the impoverished enclave and the occupied territories.

According to a report by the Gaza Ministry of Health, 206 demonstrators, including at least eight minors, sustained injuries as a result of inhaling tear gas fired by Israeli soldiers in the blockaded sliver on Friday.

Reports said that Israeli forces fired large quantities of tear gas canisters and live bullets east of Gaza City to disperse some 7,000 protesters who were rallying for what had been officially designated as “Friday of the Wounded”, paying tribute to those who have been wounded since the beginning of the Great March of Return demonstrations.

Syrian government forces besiege US base in al-Tanf

Syrian government forces have reportedly encircled a US military base at the al-Tanf border crossing with Jordan, after recapturing large parts of the Badiya region from Daesh.

As part of an anti-terror operation that was launched from the Hamimeh region in southern Aleppo and the second and third oil pumping stations in Badiya a few days ago, Syrian forces and allied popular fighters liberated an area that ran 45 kilometers wide and 60 kilometers deep towards the border with Iraq. The area includes the city of Abu Kamal and US base of al-Tanf, sources on the field reported Friday.

The US is believed to be regularly training terrorists at the base.

Washington described the area, which lies at the ultra-strategic intersection of the Syrian, Iraqi, and Jordanian borders, as its “red line.”

The US has unilaterally declared a 55-kilometer red zone around the base, and threatened to target Syrian forces within the area.

‘EVERYDAY CENSORSHIP’ PROPOSED THAT SHOULD ENRAGE US ALL

When one of the creators of the Internet as we know it today (not you Al Gore!) voices their discontent with the latest overstep of power towards full throttle censorship, you know it’s serious business.

Tim Berners-Lee, best known for his work helping to create the World Wide Web, along with other Internet pioneers, have penned an open letter opposing the Members of European Parliament (MEPs) who voted earlier this week in favor of a plan to force publishers to automatically remove any content that appears to violate copyright.

The Independent reports this means “memes, mixes, sampling, and even reuse of news and parliamentary footage, will get caught up and deleted without warning.”

Publishers will be expected to monitor all their content uploads and check for copyright material and remove it immediately, and ostensibly by doing so automatically, as outlined in Article 13 of the proposal.

Webmaster's Commentary:

... Which is precisely what the EU hopes to accomplish with Article 13.

US inequality 'rapidly getting worse' under Trump: UN expert

The UN’s top expert on extreme poverty warned Thursday that contemptible and cruel US policies towards the poor were disenfranchising millions, posing a threat to democracy in the country.

People living in poverty in the United States are seeing their rights “increasingly ignored”, said Philip Alston, the UN special rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, he said a “complete lack of compassion” characterized US policies towards the poor, who are becoming ever more “invisible in the political process.”

According to the latest available statistics, from 2016, some 40 million Americans live in poverty, 18.5 million live in extreme poverty, and more than five million live in “Third World” conditions.

Army soldiers, allies kill Saudi troopers, mercenaries in western Yemen: Report

Yemeni army soldiers, backed by fighters from allied Popular Committees, have launched a major operation against Saudi troops and pro-Saudi militiamen loyal to resigned Yemeni president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi in the country’s western coastal province of Hudaydah, killing and injuring tens of them in the process.

An unnamed Yemeni military source told Arabic-language al-Masirah television network that Yemeni troopers and allied fighters launched separate attacks against Saudi soldiers and their mercenaries north of al-Majlis and al-Durayhimi districts on Friday, dealing stinging blows to them.

The source added that at least 11 armored vehicles were destroyed during the offensives as well.

He further stated that the operations were carried out following a series of surveillance and monitoring the movements of Saudi invaders and their agents.

US Congress is largely made up of traitors owned by Zionists: Scholar

The Congress of the United States is largely made up of Zionist-funded lawmakers that betray their own country in favor of Israel, according to Dr. Kevin Barrett, an American academic, researcher and political analyst.

Dr. Barrett made these remarks in an interview with Press TV on Friday while commenting on a report which says a group of senior Republican lawmakers in US Congress have asked the administration of President Donald Trump to add Iran back on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF)'s blacklist and reverse one of the key agreements that paved the way for the 2015 nuclear deal between the Islamic Republic and major world powers.

Senator Rob Portman and Representative Ed Royce wrote a letter to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on Thursday, asking him to raise the issue during the Paris-based anti-money laundering and terror financing organization's upcoming session next week in the French capital.

Acting Like a Hate Group, SPLC Pays Large Settlement and May Be Sued Further

“SPLC” may not stand for Sneaky Propaganda and Libel Center, but more and more Americans think it should. This is especially true after the organization had to pay a large settlement to an Islamic reformer it falsely labeled an “anti-Muslim extremist,” a victory that has inspired other targeted entities to also consider suing the SPLC.

The far left-wing SPLC, or Southern Poverty Law Center, has long played a real-life cross between Santa Claus and Stalin, making a list of who’s naughty or nice and then managing to “gift” those it deems “haters” with stigmatization. Yet the misnamed organization — it has little to do with poverty or law, neither experiencing nor alleviating the former and violating the latter’s spirit — makes a habit of targeting those whose only trespass is, well, disagreeing with the SPLC. I ought to know: I myself was placed on its “HateWatch” page about a decade ago (more on that later).

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF there are more class action law suits are going to be filed, Mike and I would, very much, like to join, in behalf of the website, www.whatreallyhappened.com.

The degree to which the management of this organisation maligned Mike's site, can only be seen by reasonably sane people, as a demonstration of rank disingenuousness.

The Media Misrepresents Pope Francis On The Border Crisis

“Pope Francis Rebukes Trump Administration Over Family Separations,” headlinedPolitico. “Pope Francis Condemns Trump’s Family Separation Policy,” shouted Vox.

Of course, none of these outlets uttered so much as a peep when the Roman Pontiff compared eugenics abortion to Nazi crimes or affirmed the Church’s doctrine of marriage being between a man and a woman this week. They trot out the Pope only when it suits their purpose and then discard him the moment he takes them to task for their sins.

Speaking with Reuters, Pope Francis said he agrees with the U.S. Bishops conference condemning the separation of families while reiterating that those policies pre-dated Trump. He also said he could not give his full opinion on the matter since he is far removed from the situation.

“Not to wash my hands,” he said, “but because I don’t know the situation there very well.”

DEMOCRATIC MEGADONOR HAIM SABAN ATTACKS SENATORS FOR URGING HUMANITARIAN AID TO GAZA STRIP

Democratic Party megadonor Haim Saban is privately reprimanding lawmakers who spoke out about the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. Saban emailed the senators, some at their personal addresses, to directly express his displeasure with a letter organized last month by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt.

Twelve Democrats and Sanders signed the May 11, 2018, letter calling for Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to “act urgently in order to help relieve the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.” The letter, which came amid a deadly Israeli response to a protest movement in the Gaza Strip, said that the Trump administration should restore funding to a United Nations humanitarian effort and encourage Israel to ease restrictions on Palestinians living in Gaza. Three days after the senators sent the letter, Israel fired on another round of protests, leaving dozens dead and hundreds more wounded.

Moroccan Migrant Truck Driver Arrested Over Murder of Young Pro-Migrant Activist Woman

German Sophia Lösche went missing on the 14th of June after she got in a truck while attempting to hitchhike from Leipzig to Amberg in Bavaria, according to investigators. Her body was found Thursday evening near a petrol station just outside the Spanish city of Bilbao, Bavarian tabloid Tz reports.

Earlier this week, police arrested a 40-year-old truck driver in Spain in connection with the young woman’s disappearance who some in the German media claimed was a Moroccan national.

The finding of the woman’s body came after the 40-year-old allegedly admitted to placing her body near a petrol station. The body was said to have evidence of violence and burn marks when police discovered it.

News soon emerged that Lösche had previously been involved with volunteering for a pro-open borders activist group in Greece where she helped with a project called “No borders kitchen” on the island of Lesbos.

Delingpole: Snowflake University Scared by Rommel Quotation

One of Britain’s leading universities has gone into a blind panic after discovering that a quotation it had used to motivate students originally came from the mouth of an actual World War II German general, Erwin Rommel.
Here is Rommel’s aphorism:

“One cannot permit unique opportunities to slip by for the sake of trifles.”

The quotation was one of a series sent out by Exeter University’s career department in an email to students. Not unreasonably, you might think, given that the sentiment expressed is both motivational and wise.

But the moment someone pointed out that the quote came from Rommel, the university began frantically retracting.

Toxic breast milk. Contaminated umbilical cords. Testicular cancer. Organ failure.

These are just some of the side effects of the chemical compounds that have poisoned drinking and groundwater sources at dozens of military bases across the country, according to a major government study that the White House and Environmental Protection Agency sought to keep from the American public.

Democrats are losing their fear of AIPAC and Haim Saban

Last night in Connecticut, Sarah Walsh of AIPAC told a Conservative synagogue audience that the lobby group is striving to ensure that support for Israel remains bipartisan, but there are more signs that progressive Democrats feel they are able to criticize Israeli policies.

First, Rebecca Vilkomerson of Jewish Voice for Peace says there’s been a reluctance even in the Democratic establishment to defend Israel during the Gaza slaughter. In an interview with the Real News, Vilkomerson said Trump’s embrace of Netanyahu has opened the door for formerly-silent Democrats to be critical of Israel. “There’s a willingness to look at Israel’s actions that maybe wasn’t possible when Obama was president.”

WEAPONIZING COMPASSION

The Democrat “resistance” has managed to break its own record for hysterical and hypocritical invective. Literalizing the clichéd punch line of a thousand gags––“Will no one think of the children!!!” ––the Dems are hyperventilating about the illegal alien parents and their children being separated upon detention, as the law requires. Once again, we see how much “conspicuous compassion,” as Alan Bloom called it, has become a weapon of politics, one that damages our security and interests.

Dutch state channel caves to pressure from pro-Israel group over Gaza, Iran

A Dutch state TV station has apologised twice following complaints from Jewish groups that its coverage was biased against Israel.

According to Israeli sources, NOS, Netherlands’ main public broadcaster, made two retractions within the space of two weeks amid protests by Dutch Jews and others who complained that the state-funded organisation has an institutional anti-Israel bias.

Though a senior NOS spokesperson has denied accusations of anti-Israel bias, the broadcaster has been forced to retract comments about Israel’s occupation and suggesting that Iran and Israel face the same level of threat from each other.

NOS retracted comments, which described Palestinian demonstrators in Gaza as a protest for the right to return to areas that were occupied by Israel after 1948. The broadcast said that those taking part in the “March of Return” wanted to “return to areas that since the establishment of Israel in 1948 are occupied.”

Israeli minister warns of new war on Gaza

The Palestinians in the Gaza Strip continue to point out that their protests are entirely legitimate under international law. To call them terrorists, they insist, is not only inaccurate, but also an attempt by the Israelis and their supporters to deceive the world about the nature of the conflict in occupied Palestine.

Israel’s war on photographers and their images

Amid the ongoing killing of defenceless Palestinian demonstrators, the Israeli leadership is engaged in a fierce and multifaceted war on photographers, either by shooting at them or criminalising them. Israel’s occupation authorities fear that photographs and video images will expose their brutality on the ground, which may lead to the provision of evidence to help prosecute officers and soldiers in accordance with international criminal justice procedures.

Is the UAE purchasing properties in East Jerusalem on behalf of Israel?

As reported by MEMO two weeks ago, Kamal Khatib, the Deputy Head of the Islamic Movement in Israel, warned in an online statement on 6 June that an Emirati businessman close to the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Mohammed Bin Zayed, is trying to buy Palestinian houses and properties in the old city of Jerusalem, especially those which are close to Al-Aqsa Mosque. It is alleged that he is doing this through a businessman from Jerusalem who’s affiliated with exiled former Fatah leader Mohammed Dahlan.

According to Khatib, the businessman offered $5 million to a local Palestinian to buy his house adjacent to Al-Aqsa. The house owner, apparently, declined, even when the initial offer was raised to $20m. Khatib warned that such efforts are similar to those in 2014, when “Mohammed Bin Zayed’s regime” bought houses in Silwan and Wadi Hilwa in occupied East Jerusalem in order to sell them to Israeli settler organisations.

Israel’s secret assassinations

“Since World War II, Israel has assassinated more people than any other country in the Western world,” Bergman writes. In many cases, these so-called targeted killings over the last two decades also involved the deaths of nearly a thousand bystanders, according to Bergman’s calculations – those numbers, however, fail to include the tens of thousands killed in overt acts of war and collective punishment that mostly go unmentioned in this book.

That Israeli officials were willing to be quoted and identify others by name implies a certainty of never being held accountable in a court of law. Consider, for example, the instruction given by former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to Avi Dichter, at that time Shin Bet’s director, in reference to Hamas. Sharon, in an open admission of intent to commit genocide, stated: “Go for it. Kill them all.”

Women on the frontlines risk death for their rights

“These are historic days,” the 28-year-old Gaza resident said. “We are telling the whole world that we have never forgotten our legitimate right of return to our stolen villages and towns.”

Stone-throwing is a simple act of resistance for Palestinians. It is a symbolic way of confronting one of the most militarized nations on earth.

It has been a tactic used by some participants in the Great March of Return – protests demanding that Palestinians be allowed home to villages and towns from which Zionist forces expelled them in 1948.

Gaza’s health sector near collapse

As the dust settles over Gaza, an already wobbling Egyptian-mediated ceasefire may bring some calm for the two million Palestinians trapped there without, yet again, any resolution to Gaza’s underlying problems.

The most pressing problem for Palestinians in Gaza remains a tottering infrastructure that threatens a full-blown humanitarian catastrophe at any moment. Water and electricity are scarce, sewage flows directly into the sea and the economy is in ruins.

The health sector has been the focus over the past few weeks since the Great March of Return protests put the spotlight back on Gaza.

The number of injuries resulting from Israeli attacks against unarmed protesters on the eastern boundary of the Gaza Strip nearly broke the back of an overstretched and under-resourced sector, exacerbating the pressure on health professionals and straining provision.

Gaza’s bloody Monday

As Ahmed was too shy to approach the woman, Khader and I went and talked to her. After introducing ourselves, we asked for her address, so that Ahmed could visit her family with a marriage proposal.

It was my only contact with Ahmed.

On 14 May this year, I came home, feeling weary after covering the latest massacre committed by Israel. When I opened my laptop, I saw pictures of Ahmed on the Internet. He was one of around 60 demonstrators killed on that day. He was 27 years old.

Learning that Ahmed was among them saddened me, even though I had just met him once. I began to weep.

The next morning I phoned Khader to console him. Later, we both went to Ahmed’s funeral. The sense of shock among the mourners was almost palpable.

Ahmed did actually marry the woman he was too shy to approach. Her name is Hanan.

She is 24 and graduated with a teaching degree from the Islamic University of Gaza, where Ahmed was studying business administration.

Palestinians deserve better than PA brutality

Human rights workers seldom agree with Donald Trump and his entourage.

Yet this week I found myself echoing a view expressed by Jason Greenblatt, a Middle East envoy for the US president. For very different reasons to the ones he cited, I arrived at the same conclusion as Greenblatt: the Palestinian people deserve better than the Palestinian Authority.

This was evident as I observed the PA’s handling of a protest on Wednesday evening.

The protest was organized by ordinary Palestinians who object to how the PA has imposed sanctions on Gaza. It was banned by the PA on the spurious pretext of avoiding disruptions to the Eid al-Fitr holiday celebrations.

Yet the protest went ahead – without official approval – in Ramallah, a city in the occupied West Bank. Its organizers refused to be bullied into canceling a display of solidarity with their fellow Palestinians in Gaza.

Villagers resist threatened demolition

On 24 May, an Israeli high court ruling authorized the demolition of the entire occupied West Bank village “any time the government sees fit,” as of June.

Israeli authorities are planning to relocate the Bedouin village’s inhabitants to a location near the garbage dump adjacent to Abu Dis, in the vicinity of Jerusalem. Any such action would require ignoring warnings by rights groups that this sort of forcible transfer amounts to a war crime.

On 11 June, more than 300 public figures from around the world, including parliamentarians, artists, musicians and intellectuals, signed an open letter opposing the transfer and describing it as a war crime.

“They can come any time. We know they will surprise us, at night or in the morning. And they will do it when you are not here to see it,” Nour, 30, who lives in the village, affirmed.

Anthony Bourdain’s visit to Palestine changed lives

Without reply he set out, past a gallery of graffiti, toward the army tower, strolling unhindered alongside the giant wall.

Unlike many journalists and foreign visitors who had crossed my path while working as a field producer, Anthony Bourdain did not once put me or anyone I introduced him to in a position to “explain” our humanity.

A man of few words, he embodied what it means to “just be there” and be witness to someone’s painful experience without having to provide trivial sympathies or sprinkle salt on wounds still open.

This was our first encounter as he arrived in Palestine, where I accompanied him on a journey to tell the story of a largely “unknown” and misunderstood part of the world – my world.

AMERICANS ARE TIRED OF THE NEWS, POLL FINDS

New poll results published by the Pew Research Center on Tuesday showed 68 percent of Americans described being "worn out" by the news. The study from Pew found 30 percent liked the amount of news.

Republicans were more likely to feel so-called "news fatigue," with 77 percent of GOP/GOP-leaning respondents describing they were exhausted by the news. Just 61 percent of Democrats and Democrat-leaning respondents said the same.

A person's level of news consumption did correlate to news fatigue, but perhaps not how one might expect.

‘It’s A Human Right’ — Mexican Presidential Candidate Calls For Mass Exodus To United States

Mexican presidential candidate Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) called for mass immigration to the United States during a speech Tuesday declaring it a “human right” for all North Americans.

“And soon, very soon — after the victory of our movement — we will defend all the migrants in the American continent and all the migrants in the world,” Obrador said, adding that immigrants “must leave their towns and find a life in the United States.”

He then declared it as “a human right we will defend,” eluniversal.com reports.

While the election is not until July 1, Obrador is by far the frontrunner.

Clinton Slams Putin as "Leader of Movement That Wants to Break Up EU"

Former Democratic US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton slammed Russian President Vladimir Putin as a leader of a movement that seeks to break up the EU. The comment comes despite Moscow’s numerous statements that Russia wants to see the EU become a strong and independent partner.

Clinton gave a speech at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, as she received a honorary degree from the institution Friday.

Speaking to an audience of mostly Irish students, she slammed both US President Donald Trump and Putin.

"Vladimir Putin has positioned himself as the leader of an authoritarian, white supremacist and xenophobic movement that wants to break up the EU, weaken America's traditional alliances and undermine democracy," Clinton said.

Italian Deputy PM: Very Existence of United Europe to be Decided Within the Year

Ahead of the EU summit at the end of June, where the latest disagreements within the bloc over migration policy are expected to be on the agenda, Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini has lambasted Paris for “lecturing” Rome and resisted Germany’s plans to turn away refugees which have been registered in other countries.

The leader of the Italy’s Euro-sceptic League party, Matteo Salvini, who was appointed the Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister at the beginning of June, has warned that the future of the European Union is at stake in an interview with the German weekly news magazine Spiegel. According to the top Italian official, the upcoming talks on the joint budget and the results of the European elections, scheduled for 2019, will show if the whole creation “has become meaningless.”

"Within a year, it will be decided whether a United Europe will still exist or not," Salvini told the German media outlet.

Mystery of the massive explosion 200 million light years away: Strange flash 100 times brighter than a supernova that is growing at an incredible rate baffles scientists

A massive explosion spotted 200 million light years from Earth has baffled astronomers.

The strange spot, nicknamed 'the cow', is up to 100 times brighter than a supernova and is growing at an incredible rate.

Scientists say the flash is a 9,000°C (16,000°F) cloud of high-energy particles bursting outwards at 12,000 miles (20,000km) per second, but are still unsure what triggered the brilliant blast.

One researcher said 'there hasn't really been another object like this.'

Tony Blair yesterday told the EU to overhaul its approach to immigration to stem the growing influence of hard-line leaders.

His intervention comes despite his decision not to introduce border restrictions to new EU countries in 2004 being blamed for fuelling anti-immigration sentiment in the UK.

Prince Philip's four sisters who wed Nazis, a gay uncle and his mother who was locked in an asylum: The extraordinary reason William's making a controversial visit to Israel

However praiseworthy the intention, the chances of a British royal doing something useful to ease the conflict in the Middle East are not high. For years, the Foreign Office has advised Buckingham Palace and its inhabitants to steer clear of the irreconcilable conflict, and in particular of Israel.

In the tinderbox atmosphere, anything the royals do is likely to be used either by Arab or by Israeli propagandists.

So why is Prince William off to Israel this weekend? The answer may lie not in a search for world peace, but in a simpler desire — to please a very old man.

For it is in Jerusalem that Prince Philip’s mother, the former Princess Alice of Greece, lies in state. A strange resting place for a princess who was born at Windsor Castle and died in Buckingham Palace — but then she was a strange woman.

$4 Billion Miami Mega-Mall Moves Ahead, Ignores "Collective Belief In Sea-Level Rise"

Plans for a $4 billion mega-mall to be built on the coast line city of Miami are pushing forward, despite the fact that the city is likely going to have to deal with rising sea levels and worsening weather as the years progress. Or, it simply could find itself underwater within years, if other projections are accurate.

But don't worry - academics at the University of Penn Wharton School of Business have a solution: just ignore the fact that Miami will soon be underwater, because otherwise you could create a panic that could, in turn, slow down tax revenue that the city is desperately going to need to - wait for it - adapt to being underwater.

So in the great spirit of Keynes himself, the project is pushing forward.

How Much Money Do You Save by Cooking at Home?

We found on average, it is almost five times more expensive to order delivery from a restaurant than it is to cook at home. And if you’re using a meal kit service as a shortcut to a home cooked meal, it’s a bit more affordable, but still almost three times as expensive as cooking from scratch.

When cooking at home, you'll save a substantial amount of money on carb-based meals like pasta or pizza, and you'll save the most on protein-based meals when compared to ordering from a restaurant or meal kits.

Philip May and family profit from Trump’s caging of children in detention centers

Capital Group, the company of UK PM’s husband Philip May, profited from Donald Trump’s caging of children in immigration detention centers. The centers are run by General Dynamics, which is partly owned by May’s investment firm.

General Dynamics has been assisting the US Office of Refugee Resettlement in processing immigrant-children cases during President Trump’s “zero tolerance” immigration policy. As many as 2,000 children are reported to have been separated from their parents in just six weeks under the controversial policy. A distressing audio clip of children sobbing went viral on social media.

A number of high-profile corporations have invested in ‘defense’ company, General Dynamics, which manufactures weapons. Philip May’s Capital Group is one such corporation. Its Capital Research Global Investors (CRGI) owns just under $4 billion worth of shares in General Dynamics as of June 20, representing almost seven percent of the company.

Syria - Damascus And Its Allies Prepare To Remove U.S. Forces From Al-Tanf

On June 8 we asked if the then ongoing ISIS attack on Albu Kamal was part of a U.S. plan:

There is sneaking suspicion that the U.S. directed the ongoing ISIS attack on Abu Kamal to gain control over the crossing and to disable road supplies from Iran through Iraq into Syria.

The U.S. must be given no chance to use the ISIS pretext to take Abu Kamal. The Syrian government must rush to support its forces in the border city. It must immediately request that Iraqi forces cross the border from Al-Qaim and support the endangered Syrian troops.

Some reinforcement came in and Albu Kamal was soon back in Syrian government hands. The Syrian army also launched an operation to destroy ISIS positions in southeastern desert.

All Disquiet on Western Front

The US-led NATO military alliance earlier this month committed to a major escalation in force buildup on Russia's western flank. The development underscores Russia's long-held concern that the 29-member alliance is inevitably moving dangerously on a war footing.

At a summit in Brussels, June 7, defense ministers from NATO countries gave the go-ahead for a new, vast mobilization of troops, navy and air forces which would spearhead through eastern Europe up to Russia's western borders. The initiative encompasses two new NATO command centers, one based in Norfolk, Virginia, on the US eastern seaboard, and the other at Ulm, in Germany.

The stated purpose is to expedite transatlantic coordination of NATO forces of up to 30,000 troops, 30 aircraft squadrons and 30 large warships, deployable within 30 days.

Crimes Against Humanity. Washington Endorses The State of Israel

The margin between what is a human right as an inalienable possession, and how it is seen in political terms is razor fine. In some cases, the distinctions are near impossible to make. To understand the crime of genocide is to also understand the political machinations that limited its purview. No political or cultural groups, for instance, were permitted coverage by the defintion in the UN Convention responsible for criminalising it.

The same goes for the policing bodies who might use human rights in calculating fashion, less to advance an agenda of the human kind than that of the political. This can take the form of scolding, and the United States, by way of illustration, has received beratings over the years in various fields. (Think an onerous, vicious prison system, the stubborn continuation of the death penalty, and levels of striking impoverishment for an advanced industrial society.)

Government Eyes Are Watching You: We Are All Prisoners of the Surveillance State

First broadcast in America 50 years ago, The Prisoner—a dystopian television series described as “James Bond meets George Orwell filtered through Franz Kafka”—confronted societal themes that are still relevant today: the rise of a police state, the freedom of the individual, round-the-clock surveillance, the corruption of government, totalitarianism, weaponization, group think, mass marketing, and the tendency of humankind to meekly accept their lot in life as a prisoner in a prison of their own making.

Perhaps the best visual debate ever on individuality and freedom, The Prisoner (17 episodes in all) centers around a British secret agent who abruptly resigns only to find himself imprisoned and interrogated in a mysterious, self-contained, cosmopolitan, seemingly tranquil retirement community known only as the Village. The Village is an idyllic setting with parks and green fields, recreational activities and even a butler.

US Sets Up New Military Base Near Manbij – Syrian Commander

The presence of US troops in Syria is escalating tensions between government forces and the Kurdish-dominated Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The United States is establishing a new military base near Manbij, already the third in the area, a commander of the local military council, which is part of the Syrian Democratic Forces, told Sputnik Turkey.

“The new American military base is at the entrance to the city in Medah district,” Helil Bozi said.

“The Americans already have two military bases in Manbij, along the road leading to Aleppo, and in Eyn Dedat close to the Sajir River,” he added.

We are staying in Manbij: US general

A top US general visited Manbij on Thursday, assuring the people and local officials that American forces will remain in the city.

“We are staying here to fend off any danger against the city,” said US CENCTOM commander, Joseph Votel, according to ANHA news.

Accompanied by members of the Manbij Military Council (MMC), Votel walked around the city, visiting the town’s bazaar and the city’s administration building, holding a meeting with local officials.

The US delegation also included Under Secretary of Defense for Policy John Rood, coalition commander Gen. Paul E. Funk, and coalition special operations commander Maj. Gen. Jamie Jarrard.

The visit comes a few days after the start of coordinated patrols by Turkish and American forces near Manbij as part of the roadmap agreed by Washington and Ankara.

Council of Europe Urges Hungary to Repeal Part of 'Stop Soros' Bill Harming NGOs

The Venice Commission of the Council of Europe urged Hungary on Friday to repeal the key provision of the so-called Stop Soros initiative, Article 353A, as it criminalizes, among others, lawful help to migrants.

"As it criminalizes the initiation of an asylum procedure or asserting other legal rights on behalf of asylum seekers, it entails a risk of criminal prosecution for individuals and organizations providing lawful assistance to migrants … It should be repealed," the commission said, as quoted in the press release.

It is noted that these lacks of "requisite precision" may harm legal work of the NGOs.

"The Hungarian provision … unfairly criminalizes… ‘preparing or distributing informational materials’ or ‘initiating asylum requests for migrants.’ Criminalising such activities disrupts assistance to victims by NGOs, disproportionally restricting their rights as guaranteed under Article 11, and under international law," the press release added.
