Sexual abuse complaint: Christian Brothers blamed for son's death

The spotlight on sexual abuse within the Catholic Church is widening to include fresh allegations against the Christian Brothers in Dunedin.

An ODT Insight investigation, as part of the ongoing "Marked by the Cross" series, has uncovered allegations of historic sexual abuse, dating back to the 1970s, levelled against two Christian Brothers.

A Dunedin mother, speaking on condition of anonymity, said she blamed her son's suicide on the sexual abuse he suffered at the hands of one of the men, Br Desmond Fay, in the 1970s.

And a fresh police complaint has also been lodged in recent weeks by a man alleging he was repeatedly molested by another Christian Brother at St Paul's High School, in Dunedin, in 1971-72.

The contact, which the mother said escalated from grooming to sexual abuse over time, continued from the time the boy was 7 until he revealed the abuse to his family aged 11, the mother said.

Even more sickened by McDonald's salads: Nearly 500 people in 15 states have contracted 'explosive diarrhea' from a parasite in the chain's 'healthy' dishes

Another 81 people have developed explosive diarrhea from the dishes, bringing the total number of sickened people to 476 across 15 states.

At least 21 of them have needed hospital treatment for their painful symptoms.

The victims range in age from 14 to 91. More than 66 percent of them are women.

The illness is cyclosporiasis, caused by the Cyclospora parasite, which causes vomiting and 'explosive' diarrhea a week or even more than a month after eating the offending food.

Despite McDonald's pulling its salad blend on July 20, the number of cases keeps climbing, and today the FDA said it is zeroing in on the origin of the romaine and carrots used to cultivate the calorie-laden meals.

Mozilla removes 23 Firefox add-ons in security clampdown

Following the removal of Web Security, Firefox users suggested a number of other add-ons that should also be removed because they conducted similar activities. All of the add-ons removed by Mozilla have been listed by ID number and some of the more popular ones include Browser Security, SmartTube, Popup Blocker Ultimate, DirtyLittleHelpers, YTTools and Quick AMZ.

After the add-ons in question were inspected by engineers, it was revealed that while they all have different names, a number of add-ons all have the same code used in Web Security.

The questionable add-ons are no longer available to download and existing users will notice that they have been disabled in their browser.

‘Inciting violence’: Israel arrests Palestinian journalist for live-streaming IDF soldiers

A Palestinian journalist has been arrested by Israeli authorities for filming soldiers operating in the West Bank city of Ramallah on Facebook Live. They claim he was inciting violence against Israel and the army.
Ali Dar Ali live-streamed two videos on Facebook on Tuesday morning, which showed Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers operating in the Al-Amari refugee camp. They were drawing up a plan of a Palestinian home, a procedure typically done before demolishing a building, according to Gaza-based journalist Hind Khoudary.

Brexit Is Dead In The Water - Daily Telegraph's Ambrose Evans-Pritchard.

Brexiteers, bring out your black suits of mourning. Grieve with private dignity. The quixotic bid for British independence has failed. There will be no return to full sovereign and democratic self-rule in March 2019, or after the transition or as far as the political eye can see. Britain will be bound and hemmed until the latent contradictions of such a colonial settlement cause a volcanic national uprising, as they surely must.

The Westminster class is edging crablike towards a double embrace of the EU single market and the customs union, the full EU package but without a veto in the European Council, or Euro-MPs with heft in the dominant blocs of Strasbourg, or judges on the European Court (ECJ) to lean against top-down "Napoleonic" jurisprudence. Both of our great parties are resiling from core manifesto pledges.

Nurse Has One-Year Old Son Stolen By Social Services Because Toy Car Too Small For Him!

A nurse has had her one-year-old son taken from her after a social worker complained about the way she let him sit in a toy car. The Social worker said that the toy car was inappropriate for his age and told a family court judge how she had concerns about the nurse's "basic parenting skills" after observing her with the child in a play area. Judge Eleanor Owens heard how the social worker also felt that the woman had not fed the boy appropriately and had not changed his nappy appropriately. I never knew that there was a government manual on feeding and changing babies and that to deviate from it could see your child stolen from you. Did you?!? I mean what the fuck like? The little boy has now been sent to live with relatives. His mum will have supervised visits.

Iowa High Court Nullifies Horrible U.S. Supreme Court Fourth Amendment Precedent

A recent ruling by the Iowa Supreme Court effectively nullified bad U.S. Supreme Court precedent in the state. The decision was a win for privacy and demonstrates the how state-level action can undermine overreaching federal power.

The case revolved around a police search of Bion Ingram’s car that led to drug charges. Under U.S. Supreme Court precedent, the search was considered constitutional. But instead of trying to fight the battle in federal court, Ingram’s attorneys chose to challenge the search in state court under the Iowa state constitution. Ultimately, the Iowa high court found that the search violated Article 1 Sec. 8 of the Iowa Constitution.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers and effects, against unreasonable seizures and searches shall not be violated; and no warrant shall issue but on probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons and things to be seized.

Can the US Keep Lying About Israel’s Nukes?

Governmental lying by omission involves intentionally leaving out important facts to foster broad popular misconceptions. In 2012 the Obama administration promulgated a gag order in the form of a secrecy classification guideline – WNP-136 (PDF) – banning all federal agency employees and contractors from discussing, writing about, or releasing government information about Israel’s nuclear weapons program.

When two agencies enforcing the gag order received a Freedom of Information Act request in 2015, they released WNP-136 only after redacting most of the content.

FLASHBACK 2016 - Lawsuit Aims to Contest US Aid to Clandestine Nuclear Power Israel

A new lawsuit filed by the director of the Institute for Research: Middle Eastern Policy aims to put an end to some 40 years of the US government violating its own International Security Assistance and Arms Export Control Act of 1976, related to providing military aid to clandestine nuclear weapons power.

In this case the focus is on Israel, which is widely acknowledged to have a substantial nuclear weapons arsenal, but is not a member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Since 1976, the US has provided some $234 billion in military aid to Israel, with a new record deal expected to be finalized soon.

The forces of political correctness have had a fabulous few weeks. As I write this the tears are streaming down my face I am laughing so hard. Honestly I'm not exaggerating, I do find it hilarious. Yes it's deadly serious too, I know that. Political Correctness ends in uniformity of thought and behaviour and ultimately the criminalisation of anything that doesn't conform. It's a mainstay of Cultural Marxism and is totalitarianism on steroids. Well my friend, the ante has been upped in the last month. Here are a few examples. Prepare for belly laughs!

Paris Mayor Names Street In Honour Of Palestine - French Jews Threaten To Kill Him

A Parisian Mayor was threatened and warned that he will be "blown up" after he named a street in honour of Palestinians who were forced out of their homes by the creation of the state of Israel. The Mayor, Dominique Lesparre and his colleagues at Bezons town hall said that they had received "a multitude of threatening calls." Lesparre was called a "Nazi Communist" and was warned "we will kill you", and "we will blow up the mayor".

After the illegal UN sanctioned partition of Palestine in 1948, Israeli terrorist organisations like the Haganah, Irgun and Stern gang expelled nearly 800,000 Palestinians from their homes and their land. The street in Bezons, in the north west of Paris, is now called Nakba Alley.

Houthis: New child killing in Yemen ‘disgrace to Saudi, US’

Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah movement says a recent deadly strike by the Saudi-led coalition on the northwestern Sa’ada Province, which massacred dozens of children, is a disgrace to the Riyadh regime and the US, the main arms supplier to the kingdom.

In an interview on Wednesday with Yemen’s al-Masirah, Houthi spokesman Mohammed Abdulsalam criticized the United Nations for its inaction on the Saudi regime’s new instance of child killing.

Yemen, he said, does not pin its hopes on the world body for any effort towards ending the Saudi-led war, but rather relies on its own nation and other freedom-seeking people to that end.

The August 9 Saudi air raid on Sa’ada hit a school bus as it drove through a market in the town of Dhahyan, sparking outrage from international human rights groups and UN officials.

America, The Punitive

There has been a dramatic shift in how the United States government carries out its business internationally. Admittedly, Washington has had a tendency to employ force to get what it has wanted ever since 9/11, but it also sometimes recognized that other countries had legitimate interests and accepted there was a place for diplomacy to resolve issues short of armed conflict. The Bush Administration reluctance to broaden its engagement in the Middle East after it recognized that it had blundered with Iraq followed by Obama’s relaxation of tensions with Cuba and his negotiation of a nuclear agreement with Iran demonstrated that sanity sometimes prevailed in the West Wing.

Shocking Report Details How CIA Hubris Exposed Agents In China, Resulting In 30 Executions

A bombshell new report in Foreign Policy reveals that up to 30 CIA agents and assets working in China were identified and executed by Chinese counterintelligence over a two year period after the CIA's encrypted communications system was infiltrated.

The report is based on former and current unnamed CIA officials who were part of the program, which established a network of spies across China. The in-country spies communicated with their CIA handlers via an online system capable of being logged into from any laptop or computer.

But when starting in late 2010 Chinese authorities began to sweep up the network of spies for interrogation and eventual execution, the CIA was "shellshocked" in the words of one former official, and for eight years a joint FBI-NSA-CIA investigation has sought answers as to what went wrong in what is widely considered "one of the CIA’s worst failures in decades".

Facebook's failure in Myanmar is the work of a blundering toddler

When Facebook invited journalists for a phone briefing on Tuesday evening to talk about its progress in tackling hate speech in Myanmar, it seemed like a proactive, well-intentioned move from a company that is typically fighting PR fires on several fronts.

But the publication of a bombshell Reuters investigation on Wednesday morning suggested otherwise: the press briefing was an ass-covering exercise.

This is the latest in a series of strategic mishaps as the social network blunders its way through the world like a giant, uncoordinated toddler that repeatedly soils its diaper and then wonders where the stench is coming from. CNN: Antifa’s Violence Against ‘Bigots’ Is ‘Right’

Chris Cuomo announced Monday night that CNN will not condemn but instead justify political violence against anyone it defines as “bigots” — which, according to the network’s editorial tone over the past two years, signals open season on all Trump supporters for violent activists like Antifa and the Black Bloc.

To legitimize political violence, Cuomo said, “All punches are not equal morally… Drawing a moral equivalency between those espousing hate and those fighting it, because they both resort to violence emboldens hate, legitimized hateful belief and elevates what should be stamped out.”

This is a dramatic turning point for the far left. Not only is CNN offering moral cover for those who engage in political violence, but — thanks to the ever-widening definition of “hate” — CNN is also calling for the left’s political opponents to be “stamped out.”

Far-Left Anarchist Extremists Take Credit For Bombing Italian Populist Party Office

Italian far left extremists have taken credit for the bombing of an office of the populist Lega party, with police finding and disarming a second explosive device.

The office, located in the city of Treviso near Venice, was targetted by a rudimentary explosive device on Sunday which did some damage to the door at the entrance of the building but failed to harm anyone, Corriere Della Sera reports.

A second bomb was found at the scene by authorities following the first explosion. The second device is believed to have been intended as the main explosion, the first being used to attract authorities and others into the area to be harmed by a second blast containing nails and other metal fragments.

In reaction to the bombing, Lega leader and current Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini commented, “They try to stop us, but violent delinquents do not scare us. Let’s go forward, stronger than before.”

State Dept Names ‘Special Representative for Iran’

The new position will head the Iran Action Group, and will be intended to coordinate all anti-Iran actions taken by the US State Department worldwide. That’s already a substantial number of actions, but the creation of this new group and new position suggests that the amount of effort dedicated this will be growing.

Native Hawaiians see a silver lining to destruction caused by recent volcanic eruptions

By many metrics, what is happening on Hawaii island can be considered a natural disaster. But native Hawaiians I spoke to view this period not as one of pure destruction, but rather the logical continuation of their islands’ geological evolution — a time of deep cultural and personal reflection and realignment.

“The word we use is ‘inevitable,’” cultural ambassador, community organizer and former Miss Hawaii Desiree Moana Cruz said in reference to how best to describe Kilauea’s latest lava flow. “Not tragedy, not disaster. I certainly feel compassion for the people who have lost their homes — they’re my friends, family and also strangers. But again, we all know this is where we live. We — and I mean native Hawaiians — say, ‘Have you seen the pele?’ Pele is the Hawaiian word for lava in all its manifestations, passed down through ancient chants and dances.”

Austrian Populist Interior Minister: Criminalise Sharia Law Advocacy

Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ) Interior Minister Herbert Kickl has floated the idea of charging radical Islamic adherents if they advocate for Sharia law over the constitutional law of Austria.
The populist Interior Minister laid out the proposal as part of a programme to fight against the spread of radical Islamic extremism in Austria, Kronen Zeitung reports.

“Those who want to pass the Sharia law over the Austrian laws and want to bring upon us a theocracy in place of our democracy belong in court!” Kickl, who has been long known for his fierce firebrand rhetoric, said.

The move also follows campaign promises made by FPÖ leader and current Vice-Chancellor Heinz Christian Strache who vowed to ban Islamism in January of last year arguing it was, “antagonistic to women, antiliberal and corresponds to a fascist worldview.”

From security arrangements to choice of present to geopolitical implications, Western media is fascinated (and alarmed) by Vladimir Putin's decision to drop in on the wedding of Karin Kneissl – and some have demanded she resign.

Above all else, it appears that in almost two decades as an international political figure, this is the first time the Russian president has publicized his intention to go to a wedding party, much less one abroad. His long-time press secretary Dmitry Peskov insisted that Putin has visited foreign private events previously, but when pressed by reporters, struggled to recall a specific occasion.

In short, Putin the bogeyman. Putin the Bad, with a capital B.

In Europe, in the Western world and particularly in our country, “putinophobia” has become institutional. If you want to be counted among the good people and beautiful people, it is imperative to sacrifice to it. All or nothing. The Zeitgeist is not into subtle nuance.
